Derpy had eye-correcting surgery that failed. Screwball went crazy about a few years before Twilight came to Ponyville. Apple Bloom and Diamond Tiara weren't born yet, so the Apple parents must literally be somewhere else at that time, alive. Going along that thought, the Apple parents must have died a short time after Apple Bloom was born.

I actually thought it was the best Applejack episode to date. The antics of AJ trying to cover everything up were really funny, and it was nice to get some insight into the relationship between the Apples and the Rich family. Also we did get a big question answered, whether or not it's something a lot of people cared for is a different story... I find it touching that Big Mac isn't much of a speaker anymore because of AJ. He's doing it for her and taking her advice to heart. It's a bit sad too, though, that he completely changed because of that. But now we have a good idea of what's going on in his head constantly. He's always a moral pony and used to be quick to point out people's iffy actions, and we can see his old personality break through in episodes I'm the present where he breaks his silence and tells another pony what's what. This was a definite highlight of the season for me.

I saw nothing really wrong with the episode. Applejack's lie did send them to the hospital... literally it was not a lie we made the wrong inference. As for the Apple parents... at this time no matter what DHX is allowed to do by Hasbro there will be disappointment to any decent percentage of the fanbase so really all they can do is keep it vague. I can also see this as the start of Big Mac being mostly quite, not the moment of him doing a 180 but starting the turn. Yeah it raised a lot more questions then it answers but lets focus on what it is, not what it could have been, not what it is not, and what is a flash back episode that flushes out some of Applejack's history and her character and it's slightly over par for an episode. Rapp went with what he knew he could do, not saying he was playing safe but sticking to what he knows and what he was allowed.

This one was the story where they ended up in the hospital, didn't you notice how they got there :) I loved this episode despite it being a liar episode I usually hate. But it was really funny and charming and self aware and we learned stuff. I know you were let down but I did not expect major reveals. Hopefully there will be more in the future now that they had first one (please please Celestia Luna one...). And these episodes set in the past can help the mane characters learn lessons since they already do not need much development.

Not only is the episode itself hilarious, but the synopsis is one of the funniest in hindsight things ever, since most fans (including me) thought it was going to be a hugely dramatic episode that would reveal how AJ's parents died... and instead it went for mostly comedy, with no mention of the parents whatsoever. As for Derpy, I see it like this: She already had bad eyes, tried to get surgery to correct them, but the surgery only made them worse, leading to her eyes being the way they are now.

Whatever happened to Derpy in this episode couldn't be the cause for her derp eyes. Because "Pinkie Pride" and "The Cart Before the Ponies" showed flashbacks to Derpy when she was even younger, and her eyes were already derped in both of those. So either the bandages here were from something unrelated, or they tried to give Derpy corrective surgery in this episode and it didn't quite work.

Except she was shown at a younger age in this very season (the racing cart episode) as already having the wall eyes. So it seems a possible explanation is that they tried to correct her wall eyes with surgery but it ended up not working.

Actually the lying that got them all in the hospital was this story, not another one, as after all they did end up in the hospital due to the lies, just not there due to actual injury or illness. The way Granny worded it was simply a misdirection.

Okay, I like what they did what Applejack and Big Mac( I LOVE young Applejack's design), buuut there were a lot of missed opportunities. I liked it when they showed Derpy, Spoiled Milk, Cup Cake, or Cheerilee (did you see how Big Mac turned his head towards her for a second? This ship shall NEVER die), but really? They couldve shown Baby Apple Bloom, maybe even Baby Diamond Tiara, they could have at least MENTIONED their parents. Its literally the 1 best opportunity for that. Anything like that would have made this episode SO much better. Thanks to the fact that there were only 12 songs in the season so far, I expect the next episode to be a musical actually. Not to mention a possibly high number of songs in the finale. (I actually already watched it since its been leaked and I didnt want to risk getting spoiled over the course of 2 weeks, because usually I dont watch leaked things early. Ill still treat certain stuff, like the number of songs, as if I didnt know about it as to not spoil others of course.)

Am I the only one that was upset when their parents never showed up? I kept expecting them to show up, but nope. But on to the episode Big Mac you do not have to talk less! Please talk more! I don't know about you but Big Mac talking a lot was hilarious to me. And why is Apple Bloom so surprised about hearing that AJ lied? She's lied plenty of times in the past! It's just crazy to think of people; mostly in the fandom thinking that AJ has never lied or that AJ should be defined by her element. The others go out of their element all of the time and they aren't berated for that. But that's my own gripe with how some people in the fandom think. (Not all, just some). This was still a good episode, maybe it didn't have a whole lot of jokes but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD.

This is just a wrong lesson to teach people. 5. This episode just reinforces my head cannon that Applebloom is a product of Big Mac and Applejack. 6. The head cannon follows that AppleJack is adopted. 7. So AJ wants AB to put cider and jam in the same crate. Then AB keeps it unlabeled because apparently its not a common logic to label those things. At the same time AJ wants Rich to pick up only jam because reasons.

Leonid Saykin Well depends on your definition of 'cider' the main one used, no you can't use preservatives, as that's the difference between apple cider, and apple juice. juice is filtered, purified, and pasteurized. While Cider is direct, fresh from the apple as is. Just squeezed and served.

Honestly, I really liked this episode. It showed an interesting relationship between AppleJack and Big Mac that we didn't know before, along with show some explanation for certain things. I also like seeing Young AppleJack, as a character that shows how she obviously has much to learn, and she knows it. Although what was happening in the background might have been more interesting than the main conflict, the portray of the young versions of the characters quite saved the enjoyment of the episode. AppleJack is my least favorite of the Main six, but she's not a bad character.

Er, I'm not sure you'll find much company in thinking learning about Big Mac's cutie mark or his yoke is more important or interesting than learning about the origins of Applejack's focus on honesty (one of her biggest character traits), Big Mac's silence (his biggest character trait), and learning more about the farm. Personally, I think this is by far the best Applejack focused episode; we learned about important formative events behind important character traits, they cleared up who is in charge of the farm, it was funny throughout, and Granny was a badass at the end.

I feel that this episode would have had more of an impact if it aired in the earlier seasons. I kind of feel that this episode was similar to "Leap of Faith" in a way, where Applejack lies about the elixir to make Granny Smith happy and make her feel better about herself. I kind of feel like after having that episode in Season 4, this episode just leaves me a little confused if anything. Still, I think this was a very funny episode overall. I'm still getting over the fact that someone actually named their child Spoiled Milk. It does kind of help support the theory that a pony's cutie mark is no way determined by their name. The potential backstory of Derpy's eyes was interesting. So, while I can't say it's the most interesting backstory of a character we've seen, this was just a harmless episode overall.

Even as someone who generally likes Applejack, I'd say this was a pretty poor episode for her; I outright hated the Big Mac moment that sort of explains why he hardly talks, it was a moment that didn't feel earned. This could have been another emotional one like Brotherhooves Social, but it instead it's just a bunch of horseapples.

well i cant say for sure but they didnt seem to really care about the parents at all - the only episode that ever mentioned them was the one where the cmc got their cutie marks =/
