I think It'll be Bruno, Kobbie and Ugarte in Midfield. The front 3 will be Rashford, Zirkzee and Amad. The back 4, I'd like to see Mazraoui go to LB and swap with Dalot who should go RB. He just seems more comfortable there. Centrebacks De Ligt and Martinez and Onana as GK.

I think a big difference between Tuesday and games before is our midfield three were much more compact. I know it's Barnsley but if Bruno can tuck in and help Mainoo and Ugarte we will be much better and more fluid on attack and more compact shape in transitions and defense

Eriksen played 90 minutes against Barnsley. Mainoo was rested, Ugarte was taken off with 30 minutes to go, Bruno was brought on late. That answers your midfield selection question. Away at crystal palace who have good players who are excellent at ball carrying, it’s 100% going to be Bruno Mainoo and Ugarte in the midfield

Infact I would suggest utd should try the Ugarte and Casemiro in midfield since case is more of a passer than mainoo. This midfield plus Bruno is going to be tight for opposition to play through and thank goodness case is a good passer, this should be the starters in midfield imo so we see how good they can be when used in bigger games. Mainoo is more of a ball pusher not a passer

@@andrewvictor5216 I think casemiro and Ugarte worked and will be a good option in the future but Kobbie definitely starts with Ugarte, he is having an under the radar but matured season so far in midfield he is number 1 in interceptions in the league and his calmness on the ball would be important on Saturday. Ugarte starting would also push Mainoo up front which makes the team a lot better casemiro can come in second half and really hurt them with his passing minus the need to be more mobile cos they would have tired out by then. The options and headaches we are having right now is looking frightening to be honest and that’s with Shaw malacia, Yoro Hojlund and mount fully back in the team.

Zirkzee must start. We have been missing this level of holdup play and distribution for too long and he has really good vision. Rotation between Rashford and Garnacho with Rashford starting this time around. Even a rotation between Garnacho and Amad will be ok depending on how Rashford plays. We need to give him enough game time to build his confidence after 3 goals in 2 games. If we have a confident Rashy, we are getting goals for sure.

As the strikers sits deeper in defence, the 4-2-4 does give us four people in the middle of the pitch when defending. The wingers also tuck in slightly behind the front and are also able to help. And of course on the counter you'll get 4 vs 3 unless Palace Keeps an additional player deeper.

Yeah you’re right about the selection except for one thing, Garnacho must not start. He has to come from the bench, his speed against tired legs would do some damage. Ugarte and Casemiro can play in bigger games like city, arsenal, Liverpool. For now, Utd can manage to rotate the midfield with Erikson and Ugarte in it.

I firmly believe that Garnacho is a natural LW, not a RW. But ETH doesn't see this so he'll play Garna on the right and sub Amad on later in the game, which is a good thing because Amad always brings a lot of energy to the game when he comes on late. I’d love to see a 4-3-3 with a six and two eights as following: Onana, Dalot, Martinez, De ligt, Mazraoui, Ugarte (6), Eriksen and Bruno as 8s, Rashford and Garnacho to exploit the space in behind as I see amad more as a ball playing winger instead of runs in behind and then Zirkzee up front to pull even more defenders with him wherever he goes. This tactic might go terribly wrong on the oppositions counter attacks (it’s still a home game for palace) as with the full backs you’ve got quite the counter attacking options and with just ugarte in front of the defense it might seem a little shaky. Would love to see it being tried at least!

Fun fact:- Rashford is not a striker. No hold up, no build up, no link up, no touches of involvement, no creativity. Just a ghost. Play him on his favourite position as a left forward and let him continue growing in form and confidence. This is not the time to restart the whole Rashford as a striker experiment vs good sides. We all know how uninvolved he ends up being. 10 v 11 😢

It doesn't matter what shape we start with, it's all about the player's role/instructions. 4-4-2/4-2-4 will work if one of our full back inverts, thus creating a 3v3 in the midfield. They can't afford to invert their wing backs because that would mean one of our players free on the wing or one of their centre backs moving out to the wing which is never ideal unless the defender is really good. Plus, one of our 4 players up top can always drop back into midfield to create an 4v3 in the midfield. They can also make one of the strikers drop back to match our midfield but that would mean that their striker becomes isolated and pose less of a threat going forward when they win the ball. I say it's an easy win for us if they lose even a bit of their discipline when defending.

We need consistency, both in the football and personnel..imo we cant keep chopping the team up. We need league starters and bench players. I wouldn't change a single thing from Southampton except maybe Ugarte in for Eriksen. Imo the starters should always be (unless form drop off heavily) Onana Maz - MDL - Martinez - Shaw (dalot for now) Ugarte - Mainoo Amad - Bruno - Rashford Zirkzee Then our bench options are Bayindir Dalot - Yoro (Evans for now) - Maguire - Malacia Casemiro - Eriksen Antony - Mount - Garnacho Hojlund We are in 4 competition and coming off our worst season in a very long time and it was filled with injuries.. rotation in cup games matter but we also need consistency in the league and one of the first steps to do so is consistency in first 11. We finally have a bench we can trust, let's keep it that way. No need to chop it up every match week, I cannot wait until we are at that level again, where we just know what to expect. I miss it.

I don't think there's any chance that EtH plays anything but Mainoo/Ugarte/Bruno in midfield and Rashford/Zirkzee/Amad up front. Mainoo won't be rested for 2 straight games, we need the energy and enforcement that Ugarte will provide against an aggressive team like CP, and I think we'll stick to the more defensive 4/2/3/1 formation (vs. the 4/2/4 that we've seen recently), at least in the first half until we can see how the game will turn out. EtH will want to build on Rashford's momentum in league play now, and I think the speed and directness of Garnacho will be preferred against the slower, more technical nature of Amad, at least in the first 45-60. If Rashford starts to regress, I'm sure Amad will come in at RW and Garnacho will go to LW. Until Ugarte gets comfortable enough as the starting CDM anchor that he should end up being, I think EtH will continue to play the 4/2/3/1, but when the time comes, I could see them going to the 4/2/4 again, since Ugarte would allow Mainoo to be more advanced and Bruno to play more as a false 9 (vs. the CAM that he usually plays in the 4/2/3/1). This game against Palace could be especially tough, but if Ugarte starts, it'll be a great litmus test to see how he'll hold up to the pressure.

I’d say United need Zirkzee in that congested midfield. His tendency to drop deep, ability to receive in and navigate through tight spaces, his movement off the ball to draw defenders higher and open up the pitch for the wide players even further… it’s the right skill set against a team like Palace. What I’m worried about is CM, same as you. I wasn’t too impressed with the timings of the tackles Ugarte made against Barnsley (he looked much better vs SOTON) and I definitely don’t want him giving away fouls in his zone, Eze is licking his lips at opportunities like this. But with that overload we need a true DM and either a true high line (less preferable) or abandon the high press for a bit. No space in front of the back 4, they have a bunch of good players they use there. So I’d wager Ugarte and Mainoo, win balls, recycle, find Zirkzee, release the wingers.

The Scholes like passes needed, Mainoo not at that level yet, Bruno might be better, when in posession, alongside Ugarte, and Mainoo more forward. The deep-lying playmaker so important. We saw that when Casemiro was in Real Madrid alongside Kroos. We saw that Casemiros first season alongside Eriksen. Mainoo´s eyes for defence splitting passes not there yet. I think ETH will use the same tactic as he did against southampton. Out of possession ZZ & Bruno will go as a front 2 while Amad & Rashford drop back in line with Mainoo and Ugarte/ Eriksen, basically 442. In possession 424. Unless he sticks with the barnsley 433 which after half an hour worked like a charm. I think ETH/Ruud have identified that 2 men in MFD isnt enough. Possibly Maza to drop into mfd to make up a 3man but maza likes to overlap and support Amad. I see us beating Palace and comfortably. Ugarte i dont think will start but will deffo come on
