FYI if you add status=progress at the end of the command you can get a real time progress rather than just waiting for an unknown amount of time.

@@WiFiSheep Also typically mmcblk0 is the EMMC and mmcblk1 is your SD card, so you would want to copy to mmcblk0. I did this a few times copying to mmcblk1 and all I did was corrupt my memory card.

I hope next wave of SBC will try to include UFS. It comes in MicroSD card and eMMC formats. I don't mind paying a little more.

Great video, I have been trying for about 6 months to move my 8 raspberry pi4s from (sandisk extreme pros) to network booting. My complication is I am using Ubuntu 22.04 on the pis and Synology tftp and nfs as the boot server. I am close but still not quite there. I too am just concerned about the life of an SD card particularly for a busy pi server.

Is there a particular reason to chose a block size (bs=) of 10MB? I'm used to chosing a nice round power of 2, like 8MB, so 10MB feels a bit odd. Thanks for showing how it's done - this should apply to other Banana Pis as well, i hope.

Hi thanks very much! Good question, so when I did that video I was following the manufactures guidance, which stated 10.... So i honestly cant say for sure, I guess try it and see, I wonder if its the way the images are complied as in how the memory maps work for the filing system?

hello, is there a repository of the image files in question? What tools have you used? I have used raspberry pi before. I'm very new to this device and can't find clear information. (for example Raspberry Pi OS without desktop installation)

Are those images specially prepared to run from emmc? I have raspbian or sth else (don't remember now) on sdcard and I want to move it to emmc. Is this as simple as doing dd or there is need to do additonal steps? Thanks in advance for all replies :) Great video, btw!

So as long as the image you have is compatible and works from SD card on the device then it should work from emmc if copied to the drive space.

Out of the Banana Pi range, yes this is the only Zero with eMMC. However most larger Banana Pi SBCs feature 8 or 16 GB eMMC as well www.banana-pi.org/en/banana-pi-sbcs/

Yes M2 images should be fine on the P2 as its just an expanded M2 SBC
