I have used them for about 5 years now. There’s no other way to trap lakes and ponds. It’s an investment at first but pays off in no time. I absolutely encourage everyone to give it a try. You will love it.

Thanks! They are made by Sudden Valley Supply. Search for "sudden valley supply rat clip pole". I've also added a link in the video description.

The clips worked well for me. They really fit my #11 dbl longsprings really well. I didn't do too good on rats at all this past year. I don't know what has happened to them. In years past, I'd have rats in my 330's - this year it was hard to even find any. I've been concentrating on catfish this summer rather than turtles, but if I have some more time I'll do some more turtle videos.

happy to say I am sold on these trap clips and bait clips. I set out 8 of these on two lakes and to my surprise I took one muskrat today and was never expecting it but I picked up two small beavers in them too. the first beaver was 17 lbs and the other one was 16 lbs. small I know but is nice size to learn on since prices are down. I think I will have the fur tanned and just keep them as wall hangers or make something with the fur.

so I placed a second order with sudden valley. got the 110 clips this time. they are nice but I found one fault with them. that is that you need to use a second pole with this system. one for holding the clip and trap and the other for keeping the trap from spinning on the first pole. I found this out when I did a practice set in the yard and tied to set the trap off with a stick. I think I prefer the clips for the 1 1/2 coil springs better. will be getting more of those and maybe a few more of the 110 clips for setting in runs along the bottom of the lake. should work great in run sets.

do you do anything to prepare your traps such as stain and wax or just use them right out of the box
@juniorowsley96336 жыл бұрын
Good question I myself would like to no. Also is staining a rust preventive.

After watching this I went to the sudden valley supply website and placed a order for a dozen of each of the clips. hope to try them out once season opens here in Minnesota (October 31st this year). If they work good I will be placing a order for 100 of each. Plan to try the Conibear Clips too this season.

+Bradley Biegert Hope they work for you. Mine are still holding well. No problems. Just wish we had more rats down here. That's my problem.

Thinking about using this same set up for nutria in open water. Would I have to get a 1.75 or 2 coil spring or would a 1.5 coil spring be heavy enough? Also I can't find the rat clips on any website so far. All out of stock. Is it a seasonal thing or do they not make them anymore?

Who makes those trap and bait spring holders for the fiberglass rods? Great video!
@MrDandan1706 жыл бұрын
have you tried them on land for land rats or squirrels , ive been using regular rat traps and Koro rodent traps on my AZ property , 3 months setting 5-10 traps a night , ive done well , but i have foothold traps and been looking for ways to nail a rat with them , a friend has Number 1' long spring that works and but all mine are coil springs , and a bit beefier , im trying to get a rat specific way of getting them with the coil spring with a hair trigger .... thinking a set up like this would work , or a bent piece of rebar with bait hanging down and the trap bedded in and covered with sand
@Meattrapper6 жыл бұрын
I have not tried them in that manner - but I have to say - its a great idea! Thanks for sharing!

Could this work in the winter under the ice?
@tommyschlegel56535 жыл бұрын
No need to wire the trap off. Slip the trap ring around the pole between the trap clip and bait clip. Less cumbersome.

Is there anyone else who sells the trap clips that attach to the pole? Sudden Valley are reasonably priced but the shipping cost more than the clips do.

@Meattrapper10 жыл бұрын
My local tractor supply has them. I think the last lot I bought was $1.12 each. Hope you can find them. They would make excellent bank poles. You could drill two holes properly spaced apart and use a fence staple to fasten them to a tree or stump for use as bank poles. I need to do a video on that. Thanks for watching!
@iwantosavemoney10 жыл бұрын
am not sure what fence staples are but am fixing to find out. I subscribed lots of good information. if you like to set bank poles. a good bait trap for perch/brim/sunfish would be a four leaf clover trap I have built many for friends and relatives over the years. they are very effective and fairly cheap if you build them your self. if you do decide to make a few do not square the corners make them round. it does not look as good but all 4 of the funnel are at least 2 times the sizes of one that is square. I hope you know what am talking about. have a good one sir

What are the odds of accidentally catching waterfowl while using a setup like this? This is the same concern I have with using muskrat floats.
@Meattrapper11 жыл бұрын
That is always a risk. Anytime you have exposed bait birds are a risk. Remember that you can use the clips to support lure holders like cotton balls, sheeps wool, etc - as well as actual bait. I know guys that have even caught bull frogs because the frogs used the slightly submerged trap as a "lily pad' to sit on. Thanks for watching.

very cool I really like the idea and it will be very easy to make all the compote's of this to make a very good water set. I also have been looking for cheap fiber glass rods to make some bank poles or cat fish getters out of and I think this will fit the bill thank you for putting out this in formation sir.

the 1 1/2 clips and the 3/8" poles cut to 3 feet with 3/32" cable from the pole to the trap.. the thing that saved me on the two beavers is they wrapped up in the cattails the sets were by and the one drowned it self and the other was alive and splashing when I checked the traps this morning. the other two sets by this same area were either stolen or something like another beaver or two got in them because they were gone. I looked on the bottom of the lake in the area I had them but could find them. I might look again tomorrow when I run my check in the morning. here is a pic of how I set it up. i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab202/shadluckace/20151101_111146_zpsukwxagac.jpg

+Bradley Biegert Very nice setup! We think a lot alike.. I have been thinking about using #2 longsprings on the rat clips for a front foot beaver catch. My idea is to have a second pole of 1/2" rebar next to it with a rebar drowner lock. The idea being the beaver smells the lure on the clip and steps on the trap, then is drowned because the trap is fastened to the rebar pole not the fiberglass pole. I'm going to play with it and see. If I could find trap clips that fasten to 1/2" rebar I'd be set with a 1 pole support/drowner system. Thanks for sharing the pic!
