Champion of the Hypert isn't itself, because it's all other permanents. Since it's all other permanents but not itself, it doesn't have the ability to be all other permanents. We've got some Blood Moon layer shenanigans going on

In the old Portal set there were only sorceries, no instants. If a card could be cast any time other than at sorcery speed it still was a sorcery but they specified when you could cast them. For example Mystic Denial is a sorcery counterspell.

For Night Now (2:14): 1. It does see itself die. I can't find the exact rule that covers this, but a similar example is Lilliana, Dreadhorde General's static ability. The oracle rules say "If Liliana somehow becomes a creature and dies, her first ability will trigger." 2. The last ability of Night Now is a triggered ability. If multiple people control a Night Now and a creature dies, the triggers will be put onto the stack in APNAP order, meaning active player first, then non-active players in clockwise order. That means, assuming all players have a Night Now, the player directly to the right of the active player would get the creature since their triggers are the last ones put onto the stack and thus resolve first, reanimating the creature before the other Night Nows would have a chance to do so.
@uUuWolf16uUu
@uUuWolf16uUu 7 ай бұрын
The rule is very simple: When a creature dies, it is still on the battlefield. Only when death has resolved (which could be prevented by regeneration), dying effects enter the stack.
@SorensGaming
@SorensGaming 7 ай бұрын
In regards to Night Now, when it doesn't specify "When other creatures" on death, it usually includes itself because it does see itself die which causes the ability to trigger. So, the only way of clearing the players board would be exile with cards like Farewell, Settle the wreckage, or even Path to exile or Swords to Plowshares it before dealing with their board since it doesn't die when exiled.

The "Dross Againtop" seems like a reference to the real card "Mephidross Vampire", which could be combined with creatures such as Triskelion, or Deathbringer Thoctar, or Walking balista, in order to go infinite. If "Dross Againtop" had a restriction for its ability like "...Put two +1/+1 counters on ANOTHER target creature" then that's my take on how it could be much less broken.

So the "elf" that casts instant/sorcery from graveyard for free would be fun to play with cards like Irenicus's Vile Duplication (sorcery for 4 makes a token copy of target creature except token isnt legendary so you can make an infinite army by flashing the card again and again, or you could then switch to a card that makes more than 1 token and copy one of the non legendary tokens to go infinite squared)

I'm well overdue to watch the rest of this, so let's do that now. Second half of this video: (37:28) Grilloy Tigy: Fair, ship. Yes! We're bringing back banding! (39:33) Wingscill: OP, ban. Way too cheap of a mana cost. A typical Control Magic spell costs at least 4, but this thing also recurs itself when destroyed, just like Rancor does, so I'd say it should cost at least 6 mana. (42:11) Selderar Efpelkic: Ouch, indeed, as it lacks a mana cost. I'd probably cost it at 4 mana, which should be fair for a 1/9, since Indomitable Ancients is 2WW for a vanilla 2/10, and I think that this can be 4 generic mana, keeping it a colorless creature. (44:15) Diregraf Turtle: Fair, ship. Can't use it for defense, but it certainly can help your offense if you're going wide. Also, it really should have Turtle in its type line. (46:22) Rampaging Flock: Fair, ship. Rather odd Bazaar of Baghdad sort of ability there, but I can dig it. Honestly, I think this Zibers! (48:34) Bladed Cerent: Fair, ship. This one's quite interesting. Stats are low for its cost, but the ability to cast an instant or sorcery from your graveyard for free is neat. Also, it has another interesting ability to add injury to injury, and that'll gain you 6 life if you can make it work, since it has lifelink. I like it a lot, even if it might be a bit clunky and/or breakable with the proper OP spell already in your graveyard. (52:27) Kami of the Burrent: Fair, ship. Graveyard hate FTW, and that second chapter is pretty strong, but the opponent will likely have a whole turn to deal with it before it goes off, unless you've got proliferate shenanigans immediately available. (54:38) Thacksony: Fair, ship. It's a fluffy dog, so it automatically Zibers! And honestly, this ain't a bad 1-drop that can help protect you and your stuff from a bit of damage. Also, wow, the flavor text actually makes sense and is insightful. (56:06) Departed Seeker: Fair, ship. A free 1/1, ala Memnite. However, it has defender. But, you can "cycle" it for 4 mana after it's on the field at least. Perhaps Arcades, the Strategist would like it, since you'd then get a bit of card advantage. (57:41) Sheltering Lion: Underpowered, ship. Welp, I don't see how you'll ever be able to use this thing in combat, unless you can do something to remove its ability. Also, it may look like a lion, but it's actually a Nightmare Squirrel in disguise! AAAHHH!!! ...Anyway, to fix this thing, maybe I'd say that it can't attack or block unless you pay 3 life, instead of losing the game. (59:14) Mist Elen: Word salad, shred. She lacks a starting loyalty value. Also, even if she entered with just 1 loyalty, she'd be OP, because you'd get a lot of value from that +1 for just 3 mana. Then, if you manage to reach 10 loyalty, I hope you've got an oddball d22 kicking around for no reason. :P ...Hmm... I think that to fix Mist Elen, I'd give her a starting loyalty of 3, and then give her these loyalty abilities: 0: Roll a d6. Put a number of loyalty counters onto Mist Elen equal to the result. You may then have Mist Elen deal damage to target creature equal to the result. -4: Create a 1/1 red Goblin creature token and three 2/2 black Zombie creature tokens. -10: All creatures you don't control lose indestructible until end of turn. Damage can't be prevented this turn. Roll a d20. Mist Elen deals damage to all opponents and all creatures you don't control equal to the result. If a creature damaged this way would die this turn, exile it instead. (1:02:16) Blazing Scarebane: Word salad, shred. I know it sounds savage, but this just plain ain't doable. (1:04:25) Bo-Hiver Scentweaths: OP, word salad, shred. This could only work if this was an Un-set card, and... it's ridiculously broken, especially against anyone not playing with Island cards. IT DANGER!!! (1:07:07) Bulonu, the Thoughtwater Trespass: OP, word salad, shred. The first 2 abilities are busted as heck, and the last ability is nonsense.

I had an idea for untapped space but idk if it could even work: a legendary land that has the "this can be your Commander" text. The thought is it has a passive bonus of some kind, provides one mana of any color, and you can crack it to make 3 mana of any color instead that can only be used to cast a Legendary spell. However, it still follows the commander rule of costing 2 mana more every time it dies, meaning it's only ahead for one use, but as a tradeoff you always have that 3 mana if you need it, at the cost of paying even more to get it back later. Thoughts?
@AnEnormousNerd
@AnEnormousNerd 7 ай бұрын
Under current rules you can only 'cast' your commander, and you can't 'cast' a land. You 'play' a land. So this wouldn't work. Although if it's a land creature with a mana cost then it would work.

Honestly that Bladed Cerent looks pretty sick, not gonna lie, with some slight adjustments, it would make a pretty legit card. A 2nd creature type in addition to Elf (I mean look at the thing, Phyerxian Elf might make more sense, or Elf Golem or Elf Myr, or maybe it should at least be an Artifact Creature) The paying blue to make it tap to deal damage is bit odd flavour-wise, as well as Blue, Red, White Elf is a strange one.

2:13 This card actually would return itself to the battlefield. While the game normally looks at objects that exist AFTER an event to see if anything triggers, Rule 603.10 specifies exceptions to this rule where the game "looks back in time" and instead checks the state of the game just prior to the event. Leaves-the-battlefield triggers are one of them (603.10a). This is why [Blood Artist]'s ability can trigger from the death of the creature itself. tl;dr: This thing is busted.

First half of this video: (0:12) Briarblade Invocation: Word salad, shred. First of all, it'll invoke the day/night mechanic, which is already "chaos ensues" by itself. But then, where do my permanents go when they leave the battlefield due to the bottom ability? Do they go to the graveyard, to exile, my hand, my library, or the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone? Unhandled exception error: Instructions unclear. :P (2:14) Night Now: OP, ban. LOL, the previous card wanted to make it day, so here it's Night Now. Anyway... 2 mana for a 5/5 with partner, can generate many Thrull tokens, and lets you revive anything that dies to your side, and has no downside?! IT DANGER!!! Make it cost at least 7 mana for it to be fair, I'd say. (3:20) Yes, it'll see itself die and trigger, as it doesn't specify "another creature", so you just can't easily get rid of this guy. You'd need to exile him, bounce him, steal control of him, or turn off his abilities somehow. (4:35) D'oh! Trying to go to theater mode to see this card better breaks the chat replay on me for some reason. Darn it, KZbin! (4:44) Time Treeport // Precise Apprintingmamp: Fair, ship. This is actually somewhat interesting. So, it gives you a Lesson upon entry, can turn into a decent beater that loves when you gain life, which black can do easily with its many drain effects. And, if you're playing lots of cards that can create Foods, it has a way to retrieve itself from the graveyard. Nothing here seems OP either. I'm not usually a fan of double-faced cards, but this is pretty cool to me. (5:47) Actually, it's an Elder Dragon. Maybe slot it into a Silumgar deck or something? (5:55) Expansion to Dust: Underpowered, ship. Well, that's just silly. Okay, I choose Ambassador Blorpityblorpboop. :P (7:06) Unnamed vanilla creature: Underpowered, ship. A plain 3/4 for 4 mana might've been okay as a common back in the days of Alpha/Beta/Unlimited, but nowadays, if I'm gonna spend 4 mana on a creature for its stats nowadays, it better have at least 5 power, if not more. At least this guy didn't skip Leg day. :P (8:00) Oh, so if you have two Leg Creatures, two Arm Creatures, and one Head Creature in your hand, you may reveal your hand and win the game? :P (8:46) Ghost-Lit Doctor // Frozzle Researcher: Fair, ship. The land can be powerful for mana if you keep your hand full, but you gotta work for it. At least the land side can still give you one mana if your hand is empty, which is nice design. (10:02) Oko's Triumph: OP, ban. So, this ritual gives you 21 red mana, which is enough for a typical X burn spell to deal 20 damage. Oh, but you do have to target a creature or planeswalker on the battlefield to use it. Also, if you hit a Dryad Arbor with this while Blood Moon is in play, you can trigger the last effect. Anyway... Yeah, it danger. Remove the "Add RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" and it would be fair. (12:45) A-Among Ciddu: Fair, ship. First of all, fix the grammar-- "a untapped" should be "an untapped". But, Wizards has made their own grammar mistakes at times before, such as the wrong "its/it's" on Bring the Ending, so whatever. Anyway, I think this is fair, though maybe it should also reword its effect for clarity. I'd say... "Whenever a creature enters untapped under your control, if you cast it, create a 2/2 white Knight creature token with vigilance." ...Oh, and that reminder text is sus. :P (15:14) Bi and Lessons: Usually unplayable, shred... unless this is from a Portal set that has no instants, but instead has only sorceries with certain ones stating when you can cast them, such as Mystic Denial. In which case, this is fair, ship. You get some decent value off of this Naturalize-like card, but the catch is you need to use it during combat. (16:54) Alive: OP, ban. It's Sol Ring on steroids! Yes, its only helps you cast creatures, but it's still broken, especially if you're running lots of colorless/Eldrazi stuff. (21:37) Champion of the Hypert: Word salad, shred. And, my brain will go KA-BLAMMO if I try to parse all the things this card can and will even do. IT DANGER!!! (24:33) If it worked like that, it probably would be more reasonable, but it would still likely be a huge rulings mess. (26:31) Harm Fortify: Word salad, shred. NEXT! (28:35) Burn of Gaea: Word salad, shred. NEXT! (31:56) Angel's Degaty: OP, ban. It was underwhelming until those last 4 words. Welp. (34:27) Dross Againtop: Fair, ship-- W-w-wait a second! It doesn't say "another creature" for its last ability, so you can just keep targeting itself once it gets a +1/+1 counter! IT DANGER!!! And, even if it did say "another", it would still be OP, as two of them in play could just keep targeting each other, although maybe that's fairer, since in the real game, having two Enduring Scalelords in play will let you go infinite in a similar manner. Okay, here's how I'd fix this card: Add an "activate only once per turn" clause in addition to requiring it to target another creature.

A creature dying can trigger its own triggered abilities. Usually it will include its own card name, so in this case it would say “whenever night now or another creature dies,” but since it doesn’t exclude itself I’m pretty sure it can revive itself. Like for instance orah sky heirophant. In addition, in the night now mirror both night now will trigger. The active player will then put his trigger on the stack followed in priority order any other players with a night now. Then it will resolve as normal. Not a time stamp thing, you’d still wanna throw that insane card on the battlefield as soon as you could. 😂

I don't really see the problem with "Alive" TBH. It only gives you one more mana then sol ring, and it comes with a limitation that soul ring doesn't have. Sure, it's insane ramp for green players with all their massive mana-expensive creature spells, but green already has so many really OP ways to ramp mana anyway that I honestly don't see this card really being any more powerful or being used any more frequently then sol ring. Actually, if anything, sol ring might still be more popular, since it fits well in any deck. This one wouldn't necessarily be as good in decks that don't have too many creatures, like spellslinger or enchantment focused decks.

You can actually get a D22 like this: First, roll a D12. If you get a 12, reroll until you get a number between 1 and 11. Then, flip a coin and interpret one side as 1 and the other as a 2. Then multiply the results. You get all possible numbers between 1=1*1 and 22=2*11 with equal probability.

@tylerian4648 7 ай бұрын
I think it should be add 11 not multiply by 2. Your current method yields the following set {1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 6, 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22} A roll of 2 with a flip of 1 and a roll of 1 with a flip of 2 are both 2 under your system.

@@tylerian4648Damn, you are completely right, thanks for the correction! So it's end result = first roll, if the flip is a tails and end result = 11 + first roll, if the flip is a heads.

Goes to show why most games prefer D20s. And interestingly, there are really only dices for the numbers of sides 4,6,8,12 and 20. Because in geometry, there are only these regular (i.e. completely symmetrical, resulting in equal probabilities) polyhedrons. (At least if you want to have a dice that has a nice geometric shape.)

14:45 : my understanding is that reminder text is a reminder, and is not rules text? So if the reminder text is wrong, it doesn’t change how the card works? Edit: ok someone addresses this at 18:36 Edit: 19:49 huh. (I imagine that “Duh” is the name of an un-set card which talks about reminder text)

Well, not to mention that Burn of Gaea can also let you have, say, 1 trillion power and toughness, meaning that you can just block all of your opponent's creatures that try to attack you or your Planeswalkers, and then attack with a trillion. Find a way to give yourself trample and that's game.

Burn of Gaea is only a one shot kill if that player is also a creature. Otherwise the player cannot attack or block and cannot be destroyed by having 0 Toughness.

I'm not super well versed with Magic the Gathering rules, but. Doesn't Burn of Gaea, Assuming the players are creatures with power and toughness, "Any number of target players". Doesn't that mean it wipes the entirety of players who are creatures?

A card sees itself die. Because at the moment of dying, it is still on the battlefield. Nikachu... you are a competitive player. You should know this. By your own logic, every card that says "When this creature dies..." wouldn't work because it doesnt see itself die.

3:08 triggers trigger in the order of play starting with the player who has priority. This means that, as this is the order they go on the stack in, they resolve in the opposite order, meaning the player with priority when the ability triggers (so whoever's turn it is in this case) ends up with the creature
@jocoder255
@jocoder255 7 ай бұрын
HE ALSO SAID THAT IT DOESN'T TRIGGER ITSELF THIS MAN IS A RULES NIGHTMARE IT REVIVES ITSELF WHEN A CARD SAYS "when this creature dies, ____" THE EFFECT TRIGGERS. SAME WITH "whenever a creature (you control) dies, ____". THESE TRIGGERED ABILITY MISTAKES ARE TRIGGERING ME!
@jocoder255
@jocoder255 7 ай бұрын
Also 5:55 This card wouldn't be legal to exist as the effect (each player chooses a card name) cannot trigger. It's the same as if a permanent said "create a treasure token" and that was its entire rules text. Choosing a card name and it having no effect? pointless but allowed. Having an effect written without a way for it to happen? breaks the syntax.
@jocoder255

7:07 probably could be played, as well as being named with cards like pithing needle. However, it has no subtype, and therefore violates mtg syntax. Also the lack of a name might violate mtg syntax.
