I'm still amazed at how many features Windows Phone had that still don't exist elsewhere. Like as far as I can tell, I can't pin a contact group to my home screen and use it to text everyone in that group. And Windows Phone was beautiful. Android and iOS are just bland.

This looks insanely clean. I never considered switching away from the default OnePlus launcher (other than using Nova, but it doesn't work well with gesture navigation), because I saw it as an integral part of the smartphone experience to have app pages and a regulare app drawer. Now I realize that a launcher is nothing more than the gateway to the *actual* smartphone experience: the apps. I really want to give this a go and see how it affects my smartphone usage and how I think of smartphones in general.

Instead of just a launcher, why not make a whole GSI? Since GSIs don't require to be ported to individual devices. They should make their own UI with this minimalist and extremely useful design.

Cause the vast majority of users will not know how/ want to deal with rooting their phone, or simply cannot due to a locked bootloader. It's so much easier to just push a button to install an app than to spend a half hour setting up your phone from scratch, so 99% of people won't even bother to give it a shot.

@@eddydrouet1888 oh yeah, the locked and impossible to unlock bootloaders from those carrier-locked phones. But, they already made a phone with their UI. There are even programs that can automatically convert ROMs to GSIs, albeit with some minor kinks that need to be straightened afterwards.

Mainly because GSIs suck, I guess. If u have the option to use a ROM specifically built for ur phone, always do so. I don't disagree with the custom ROM thing completely, I just think they should make it open source so that people can built and optimize it for their own devices, if they decide to make it a ROM.

the problem is, when they are consantly working on the launcher and improving it, they always need to search for new clients, if they do not find a certain number of clients every year they have to shut it down... if you have a subscription modell you can survive with your existinf client base...

A subscription model would be repelling. I'd rather pay a fixed price for it and use it on my current phone forever. Then if I love it and adapt to it, I'll buy it again for my next phone.

​@@aronkvh yeah i get it. however i don't like to do it. i prefer to waste time to find solutions to obscure problems that are already solved... i prefer to code rather than argueing with my computer. linus torvalds himself uses vanilla gnome over fedora. if gnome is enough for him, i don't see why is not enough for me. personally i would like to go to i3 but even though i liek to tinker i cannot tinker with my os nor my windows manager, for a long time since i don't have it anymore. i'd rather waste time over my latex file and how to make it look as i want. earlier this year i wasted like 3 weeks to learn how to set up vim how i like it. at the end of the end i failed and i am back to sublime for plain text editor. tinkering is fun but as long i have an interface that doesn't annoys me i am more than happy with it.

I'll wait until the full version to judge but it looks like they're trying to milk us a little too much with a subscription model, at least compared to other similar developers, but we will see.

They were way better than the Google youtube app..... Google had them pulled out of the app store. Same with Snapchat with 6snap and many other apps.

Yeah in a way, but with software I'm not sure I'd always agree. You want them to update the app with new app support, bug fixes ect. A subscription model is a great way to motivate them to keep developing the app. The only problem is that subscription models are often way more expensive over the course of several years. If instead they just make it no more a few euros a year, then I'd be alright with that.

I wouldn't advise it. This thing barely qualifies for Alfa state. For someone with an iPhone, anything with Nova Launcher it's more customization that you can handle. I suggest to get a one plus, and keep it stock or slap nova on it. That should do the trick untill you become familiar with tweaking. I don't consider myself an avg Android user, but not a power user either. Just to reset my phone, it takes me sometimes half a day, to place everything exactly as it was, tie everything, reshape everything back again, reconfigure the permissions and conditions back to where they were etc.etc., and that's with making some use of system copies, otherwise it would take me days.

It's a really interesting project and I'd be willing to try it, even if it requires a subscription, but I don't know if the approach of porting it to individual devices is the way forward. I love my Meizu 16th, but there is no ways they will consider it with this small of a market share.

I love the look & function of this launcher, & I think UI is one the best I've ever used, particularly the pulley design, which reminds me of Sailfish OS, but you only get a week to try it out & then you have to pay. The one time fee is $80, which is absolutely nuts. There's also a subscription option: $5 a month, or $40 a yr. It's also over 300mb. Personally, I think they ruined what could be a great launcher, by making you pay such a ridiculous price for what is such a minimalist launcher anyway. Is there similar launcher to this?

The whole black & white monochrome thing to me is pointless. Actually, this whole launcher seems to be devolution at it's worst. This certainly won't sway me away from Nova. Why would anyone want to look at things in black & white? That's awful.

My biggest concern is the battery consumption. Does the monochrome screen help you to preserve battery life? Would've been nice to see some comparison with the basic Android... Otherwise, it's just another gimmick for tech enthusiasts.

if this were an open source project, i'd actually be excited because the community could make it work. but since it's a small company trying to sell a proprietary layer on top of proprietary OS it's just a matter of time until it crashes and burns or is bought by a company that ruins it.

The BEST launcher would let me use the entire screen, uninterrupted by the status bar, where it would automatically hide itself with every app, what a waste when there is always a thick black bar on top of my content with the time and other icons static blinding in my face. Some apps are smart and make it transparent or even hides.

Good but Nova launcher has everything I want. Basically I get all the features from the video by set up my digital well being app and installing kde connect in both my phone and desktop.

It's has very limited availability, only a few high end phones can download this. Not worth the hype if can't even install it.

I'm very interested in Ratio for not only the Android skin itself, but also for how well it connects to MacOS. I love being part of the Apple ecosystem with my MacBook, iPad and iPhone, but the iPhone has always been the weakest part of the ecosystem for me. It can do all the things I need to do on a phone just fine, but it doesn't have any exciting features or capabilities while the iPad and Mac do because of how much more versatile they are. I mainly stuck with the iPhone just for those ecosystem benefits that Android maker failed to replicate, at least until now. For once I might actually try out an Android phone and maybe I can finally have a new, exciting experience with a phone again.

the best launcher i ever seen in my life is of the Sharp's NERV Evangelion. the rest are same boring clones of others OS or Iphone
