Sailor Moon's Romance was the WORST? (A Response Video)

This was pretty good. I think the sailor moon does have some decent romance. For one, the communication. Usagi actually does confront mamoru when chibi-usa is with them cause she feels insecure. Mamoru comforts her and tells calls her "usako," which is his nickname for her, and explains how chibi-usa is a kid and loves usagi. Secondly, the brainwashing of mamoru. Yes, it does get tiresome, but the creator has stated she wanted to show that its the woman that saves the man this time around and how they're strong together. Thirdly, the age difference. Honestly, i don't see that as an issue cause it's only a small amount. Now, it'd be different if he were older like say 20 years old, and she's 14, then yeah, it'd be a problem. In conclusion, it was very well put and i enjoyed it.

And don't even get me STARTED on The Familiar Of Zero!!! In the anime, a noble mage named Louise François LeBlanc de Valliere accidentally conjures up a human from a real world as her Familiar: a boy named Saitou. And the "romance" between these two (if you even call them that) is so volatile it borders on ABUSIVE!!! Like, Louise treats Saitou like trash, doesn't give him a comfortable bed to sleep on, blows up at him for the slightest reason, and she doesn't get the notion that her "Familiar" is (and this bears emphasis) A HUMAN BOY WHISKED AWAY FROM HIS FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES BY ACCIDENT TO BE NOTHING MORE THAN A SUBSERVIENT PUNCHING BAG!!! And the worst part? The anime practically FORGETS about the abuse and has Saitou go along with it! Raven, if you're reading my comment, I must ask how you would feel if you're suddenly warped into another world away from your friends, family, and loved ones; only for a snobbish, pink haired, whiny brat who can't control her temper for 5 seconds tops to demand that you serve her?

Its funny you bring this up while ignoring the entire context of why Louise is like that and why saitou even cares she is considered the worst magician in the world constantly talked down to degraded and insulted she summons saitou by accident and they're basically stuck with each other because no one knows how to send him back she treats him like crap because thats how everyone else in her life with power over her treats her. Saitou sees this and sympathizes with her and tries to help her. While yes familiar of zero isn't the best written story it does have the elements you can see forming a coherent love story the novels are a lot better at conveying the story it still isn't the best and could probably have used a better editor. Overall not the worst love story ever written there's worse.

The bad romance in the show is between the two cats. Luna and Artemis. Many times Luna is falling in love with some random human man and when she thinks Artemis is looking at human women she gets angry at him... one of the EPs is about everyone believing Artemis have falling in love with a nun but the "plot twist" is that he is looking at the church and dreaming about getting married to Luna in a church one day. I do not remember if Luna ever beats up Artemis but in one of the stories she turns into a human and makes out with some professor guy... Now I do not know if the story takes part after or before we sees Artemis' and Luna's child from the future.

The biggest problem withe the age difference point is that it's based on the 90's adaptation where there was a 5-ish year age difference and he was a college/uni student whereas in the Crystal adaptation he's a 16 year-old high school student... though even with the only two year difference there is still an arguably wide life experience gap between 8th and 11th grades. Okay so the premise of the article is entirely based on the 90' adaptation and obviously the English (North American) dub, not even the OG Japanese adaptation. I'm currently at argument 3.

Sailor Moon has many different versions/retellings of the same story but judging from the article it seems to refer to the 90s anime rather than the manga or its new more faithful adaptation, Sailor Moon Crystal. As someone who has recently reread and rewatched all of Sailor Moon animes and manga I can tell you that it is far from the worst romance in anime. In fact, it's iconic for a reason. Their love is depicted by the story and everything surrounding it including the songs in the franchise as a love that conquers all and transcends space, time, and lifetimes. It is also depicted mythologically with celestial body symbolism and takes influence from Greek mythology. They popularized the reincarnated lovers/fated lovers trope in fantasy romance and in Western media. Reincarnated lovers trope is mostly used in Eastern storytelling and some examples after Sailor Moon include Fushigi Yuugi and Inuyasha to name a couple. Usagi and Mamoru are a mixture of star-crossed lovers and reincarnated lovers trope as they are given another chance. They had a forbidden romance in their past lives that eventually led to a war and their deaths. In the 90s anime they tend to bicker a lot due to a having a bad first impressions of each other but even then, he mostly teases her about her love life calls her "bun head" or "meatball head" in the original dub but it becomes a term of endearment. They fell for each other even before remembering their past life. Once they're officially together he calls her "Usako" another affectionate nickname with a similar meaning of "my little bunny/rabbit" as Usagi means rabbit/bunny. They often support each other emotionally and in battle and their romance and the power of love often helps her power up. Their love represents the themes of love and hope. Throughout the series he constantly wants what is best for her and gives her inspiration to improve and helps her emotional growth. There are many times when other characters try to take him away from Usagi but he never once cheated on her and even stated that she's the only person he's interested in. He's also only brainwashed/mind-controlled in the 90s anime once in the first season and possessed in the last season but only ever comes in direct conflict with Sailor Moon in the first season while brainwashed. Their romance represents some of the best themes of the series. The Sailor Moon story intertwines action and romance as well as strong female friendship. Their relationship helps each other grow as a person and as leaders.

Oh my god this article is horrible. Enough that there may be some kinks in the relationship but no relationship is perfect. A perfect romance dont exist because it would be boring. They did get off on a rocky start, but I would say that Mamoru was just as immature as Usagi as he kept teasing her and being rude. But their romance didnt start at that point, it started when they regained memories from a past life where they were lovers. Meaning, both of them are mentally older than their bodies after that point. Not that the author really think much about that, or let it effect much of the plot. But the part about Mamoru often getting brainwashed is making me cringe as if I was splashed with acid. Yes, Mamoru gets brainwashed quite a bit, but it feels like the writer of the article didnt watch the show at this point. If I remember right, Mamoru only gets brainwashed twice in manga and anime, first time by Queen Beryl, whom was in love with him even in the past life, in the fist arc. Second time was in the 5th and last arc by Sailor Galaxia. The name Endymion was his original name when he was the prince of earth in the previous life, it had nothing to do with the brainwashing at all. He never became "Prince Diamande" or "Black Lady" in the Black Moon arc... Black Lady was his future daughter Chibiusa whom was brainwashed. Prince Diamond was one of the ruling princes on the Black Moon and he had nothing to do with Mamoru. Instead he had a crush on Usagis future self Neo Queen Serenity, and he tried to kidnap her 14 year old self in the present to hit on her! It was never stated how old prince Diamond was, but that was way more messed up. In SuperS, he wasnt brainwashed at all, the circus just made him sick.

I highly recommend it. There are two anime series, and both are good, in my opinion. The classic 90s is available on Blu-ray/DVDs and has two English dubs, though the second dub by Viz Media is the better one, and that is the one available on streaming and physical media. It's available on Hulu and Pluto TV. The remake, Sailor Moon Crystal, which is a more faithful adaptation of the manga, is available on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Netflix. There are also highly popular musicals which recently went worldwide and the next performance is in London, starting in February 2025. There's also a live action series that blends elements of the 90s anime and manga with its own original elements as well. So there's many different retellings of the same story, so there are different continuities.

I'd give it a fair recommendation. Granted, I've only ever watched the first season of the 90's version of the anime, so my recommendation may not mean or matter much. But I was genuinely impressed by what I've experienced so far. I'm one of those guys, like Raven, who was, and still is, more interested in shonen than shojo, so Sailor Moon never appealed to me. But this past year, I decided to watch the Viz dub of the anime on a whim because it was right there in front of me and I had nothing else to do. That, and I wanted some 90's nostalgia, even if I never grew up with Sailor Moon at all. Long story short, I slowly found myself growing attached to the main cast of characters, and even feeling some attachment to a side character named Naru, and some of her struggles in the series. Even had a good time seeing how wrong my childhood biases of Sailor Moon were when I saw the action and combat involved, and how it reminded me more of Power Rangers and superhero stories more than anything. That, and I loved seeing similarities between Usagi and certain shonen main characters, like Goku (though this might be me overanalyzing Usagi. But still, it was fun.) When I finished watching the first season, I came to adore Usagi as a character most of all (again, I love shonen main characters a lot, and Usagi reminded me of them to a certain degree. Like a feminine variant of shonen main characters.) It's themes of undying love, friendship and perseverance in the face of hardship and pain spoke to me at a time in my life where I rarely feel the desire to go on anymore. And lastly, it actually made this die hard shonen dude bawl like a baby during the big three episode finale. Granted, not hard to make me cry because I'm emotional and sensitive like Usagi is too, but still! Like, I can't hear Moonlight Densetsu without reliving that moment. So... Not so long story short I suppose (sorry.) But as I said, I would recommend Sailor Moon to anyone who is curious about it. It's better than what it may seem to look like on the surface.

Yeah, there's a reason. In the anime, they didn't bring up their age that frequently. Only that Mask was a college student. But in the manga, Mask was in high school and was 17, while Usagi was 14 in Junior High.

In the U.S., college comes after high school, but in the U.K., the term "college" may also refer to a secondary school (grades 9-12). I can imagine that college may refer to high school in this scenario...
