Dr B's book "Fiber Fueled" saved my life! January blood work was total cholesterol was 319 and LDL of 239. March blood work and 3 months of following his book was total cholesterol of 168 and LDL of 68. I feel great. We try to get 30 grams of fiber and eat 30+ different plants per week. Thanks Dr B!!!!!

WE are plant based and it has changed our lives..no more viral outbreaks with night shades, not bloating after wheat...and so much more! Thanks for having Dr. Bulsiewicz Chuck! Fabulous educator! Yes I have Fiber Fueled and would highly recommend it!

@rawbirbella justthat YES!!! I was stunned. I had avoided them for so long. Now we are having marinara at least once a week! I was exclusively plant based ( no infractions) and no alcohol for 15 months before I reintroduced spuds!

You are so right. I couldn’t manage without my medication for acid reflux. Even that didn’t work as well as it might have done. Changing to a wholefood plant-based diet means I now have been able to throw out those medications and never need them again. It’s not that I never get discomfort because if I do succumb to certain foods I will get the old familiar pain but nowhere near as bad because my stomach is obviously better able to cope.

If you liked this video, you may also be interested to know that there are a few issues that have to do with nutrition that can result in anxiety! For example, hormone imbalances, caffeine consumption, food sensitivities, and nutritional deficiencies (like with magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin B6, serine, choline, copper, chromium, selenium, and zinc), can all lead to anxiety!

Yes, a fiber gardening how to! People in small spaces can even be encouraged to grow their own food. I’m growing kale, cherry tomatoes, peppers, herbs on my little front porch. Greens and herbs can grow in low light. The grow towers are great for people with limited space to garden. 🌿💚🌿

I am becoming obsessed with gut microbiome. I don't think I have any after severe food poisoning in 2009. I've never been the same and already had IBS-C since birth. Interesting info about probiotics being BAD after you're on antibiotics. The visuals with Will's hands were helpful. :-)

Thanks for sharing this! To add to this, there are some common mistakes people make in trying to fix gut health. They include: adding a probiotic to help with excessive gas and bloating (that's just one piece of the puzzle), eliminating a food for 4 days and expecting it solve the issue (will take at least 2 weeks), and not thinking about root causes!

Dr. Will is the man! There' interesting little tidbits I learn about the current state of gut health science these days. I have the post nasal drip thing and occasionally coughing but I have some little things to fix like stopping the tomato sauce, and cutting back on the tea or stop it altogether. I need to exercise more, too. There's no pain. Concerning colon cancer, it's great that our food reduces our risk being whole food-plant based.

If you liked this video, you may also want to know that there's a connection between what we eat and mental health! For example, Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause depression, but nutrition can help! Good food sources of vitamin B12 include: animal products, and vegan/vegetarian sources. Liver is a great animal source, which you can sautee with onions, or put on skewers, roast over an open fire, and add salt and pepper! Good vegan sources include nutritional yeast and mushrooms!

If you liked that info, you may also be interested to know that a survey from 2018 of 71,000 Americans found that 61% had at least 1 bothersome gut issue! The most common gut symptom was acid reflux or GERD, then abdominal pain, then bloating.

If you found that interesting, you may also want to know the indicators of a healthy gut! They include: colon transit time of 12-24 hours, type 4 stool on the Bristol stool chart, not having diarrhea or constipation, having 1-3 bowel movements per day, and light-dark brown colored stools.

@@OswaldDigestiveClinic Hmm, I guess for me so far so good then because I have met all the criteria you have listed for the past few months now. I had some diarrhea and constipation over a year ago which didn't surprise me considering one of the people I was living with at the time who was rather messy and careless with handling animal products and not always washing hands and insisted on touching everything, including my food afterwards often without washing hands or sanitizing surfaces. Thanks for sharing.

I took a carnitine supplement once, while on my mostly wfpb diet, and it caused a recurrence of stroke symptoms. I'm rather fragile, living with a physical disability and some sort of chronic condition that is in remission as a result of my dietary changes and self-care. Years ago, after having a small stroke and possible autoimmune flare, I was bedridden for months. When I change my habits it made the diagnostics impossible to detect for doctors using methods meant for poor dieters, so I still don't know what wrecked my body beyond full repair and causes me to have to stay extremely strict with diet and self-care. But I can totally feel how things like TMOA, saturated fats, and high sodium foods harm my body.

Dropping animal products, eating a plant-based diet with several servings per day of fruits and vegetables, eating 35-55 grams of fiber per day, and getting a Squatty Potty reduced my IBS-C by about 80 percent in a little over a month. I had suffered pretty bad with it off and on for eight years on a Low FODMAPs diet that never really seemed to allow me to eat anything but a restrictive diet.

Pinch>push>poop...nuggets... a topic everyone wants to learn about, but no one wants to admit to wanting to know. Folks act all offended and say it’s TMI, but(t) it’s not. The physical therapy association needs to run a big campaign in light of the major chronic constipation epidemic in this country (a result of the SAD, and opioid epidemic).

Absolutely. Some analgesics are powerful muscle relaxers which slow peristalsis hence constipation.

I'm a researcher, and I've researched on myself for 20 years on a raw diet, and I'm really doing good, and I did this because I saw no animals eating cooked food. I offer my cows cooked vs. raw and they choose raw every time. They don't like fermented food. They will even pass on food that is wilted, and will choose fresh picked every time. Maybe they know something humans don't.

I have ulcers in esophagus was prescribed pump inhibitors and antibiotics and I have one ulcer in my large intestine and I have gastrics they did a endoscopy in Nov and now vim Apr to make sure I heal they also took biopsy and it came out no cancer so what or how do I heal myself with cabbage juice daily will this heal all the ulcers that I have help?

The best thing this doc could do is a Solid Food Vacation on Juices and document all the CRAP that comes out of him. I coached a Gastroenterologist several decades because his son was a friend of mine and was worried about his dad's health. On day 21 of his Juice Feast, I called him up and asked him how many BMs he had the day before and he said he had the BIGGEST BM of his entire life and he asked me, where is stuff coming from? I joking said, you're the expert - you tell me! Of course, I went on to explain how lots of stuff comes out of the 22 feet that precedes the Large Intestines, which is the Small Intestines.

I realize that what ever i eat a plain sandwich or latr i drink even just water n my stomache jus swells n hurts why please help. Question for a future podcast: what about the belief people have about “bio-individuality?” How can we participate in healthy discussion with others that believe there is no one size fits all nutrition approach and that’s why WFPB diets don’t work for everyone?

Just point out the fact that there is not a single study showing the poor bioavailablity theory in real life. If it were true, there would be endless studies showing deficiencies on a wfpb diet. Studies do show lower amounts of certain nutrients, but do those lower numbers equate to health issues? Absolutely not. A theory is that when meat is removed, the body just doesn't need as much of these nutrients because it functions more efficiently. Until the day this poor bioavailablity theory actually quantifies itself with real evidence, it is just a theory..A FALSE theory with no actual evidence

If you've had lots of antibiotics, lots of different kinds over the space of a year and a half, can it kill off all of the good bacteria? If some types are extinct, how can they come back and flourish by eating plants? Are the bacteria we need on food or in the environment or are probiotics needed to reintroduce the missing bacteria?

This is excellent health advice. I have one problem with his approach in that it does not consider other organ health, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, metabolic syndrome. So his food choices might be great for gut health, but not ideal for other diseases. There are many foods in his cookbook that would not be good for me. All in all, certainly better that the SAD that most people are eating.

Coffee has fiber, it feeds the microbes. Unfiltered coffee has more fiber.

Caffeine depletes nearly every vitamin and mineral, causing adrenal fatigue, depression and anxiety, plus it over-stimulates your brain/nervous system. Coffee is also the main source of oxalates in the American diet, which are in many plants, and they bind to many minerals, like calcium, iron and zinc, plus oxalates can cause painful joints and kidney stones. Coffee is a risk factor for osteoporosis, as I found out the hard way. Also, coffee is grown in the rain forest and so can contribute to rain forest destruction. Coffee even can cause weight gain at a certain quantity! So, for these many reasons, it's best to minimize it.

My nutritionist has me taking “prosynbiotic” by Standard Process Containing inulin, GOS, Saccharomyces boulardi, lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus paracasei, and bifidobacterium I have SIBO diagnosed by the breath test of a GI doctor Should I be taking this?!

The bacteria acidophilus is the beneficial ingredient in yogurt. Soy yogurt and other plant yogurts are made with this bacteria, check the label

I did Raw for 1 month because I could not eat protein... way too much animal protein in my past. Even plant protein was not good for me... I have tons of parasites though which is the real problem. Anyway since doing Raw I can now eat small amounts of protein. I'm working on getting the parasites out.

I’m confused because I hear that carbs like oatmeal, potatoes and certain fruits eaten alone will cause glucose spikes causing inflammation and we should add protein and fats or there will be a problem.

Its possible that improving our microbiome to very good we handle these types of carbs better but until then we can experiment with an inexpensive blood glucose meter with small amounts of these foods to find out amounts tolerated. Think microdosing lots of variety to build these microbes that one day will improve our ability to handle more variety without the huge spike. Moderate exercise before or after a high carb whole food meal (not processed) really helps my numbers. You can do your own tests with and without different amounts of fat and protein with your veg. It truly is the best way to find out as we all are at different stages of microbiome and gut healing. Hope this helps. 💕

Fruiterian here. I eat a ton of fresh fruit and salad greens. I don't feel as well eating cooked food. How does that effect my gut bacteria?

I never was tested for celiac but I only choose organic and I found that eating gluten which includes wheat causes much distress and pain to me. I don't have this distress on a gluten free diet. I think you should specify a healthy gluten free diet from processed "gluten free" foods. That study probably included mostly people buying processed gluten free foods which typically have no fiber. Please.

Some people are sensitive to wheat gluteomorphin, kind of analogue to casomorphin. It's not allergy. Dr. Greger's book How Not To Die addresses this subject, too. Check Nutrition FactsOrg.

Is it normal to feel bad and not well when you will change your bad diet to a plant base diet? I tried very often but I do not feel well. I get horrible symptoms, extrem gut issus, mental problems and sleepless nights😱 Always troubles with any kind of seeds, nuts, grains....so I am a absolutly not sure what to do. 😔Any ideas?

Hi, I know you made this comment 5 months ago but if you're still wanting answers, here is my 2 cents worth. It takes a while for your microbes and biochemistry to change so It's best to transition gradually. Going cold turkey will cause people to quit. Slow and steady wins the race.

Try elimination diet where you take out high problem foods and then add back foods in slowly one at a time to see which ones are an issue for you. Especially the main ones like gluten, dairy, soy, corn, eggs etc. 😊
