I agree Jeremy. I was watching a video on 'body brushing' and somehow ended up here through the KZbin journey. And I now have a MASSIVE obsession with scents. (granted, I always was hyper aware to scents but never cared to explore that until now).

I love cedarwood. One of my signature fragrances is a clean skin musk scent with cedar and when I first wore it I kinda got like hampster cage wood shavings off it but after it dried down and settled a while on my skin I started to really love it.

Wonderful video. I have such a vivid olfactory memory of sandalwood from a Janian temple in Mumbai. The stuff is used daily, ground up and made into a paste, and the thick richness hangs in the air.

Hi Peter, great videos on making parfum! I am a musician and interested in all forms of art, like painting, bonsai, songwriting, poetry, record production and so on. I discovered that knowing as much as possible about all these artforms adds to each other, the basic principles behind them beiing the same. I would like to see more about these topics: how to make basic chords, using aldehyds, raw materials and how to work out your own creations. Keep up the good work! greets, Carsten

You have to try fir balsam absolute, it's plain gorgeous! I have two batches from Robertet (bought via PSH), one is sweeter, one has a bit more coniferous character, but both are wonderful. A perfume on their own, unfortunetaly too sticky to just wear the diluted absolute. :D Real cedars (e.g. Himalayan, Atlas) to me have a chemical kind of odor in general. I find it hard to make them work in a formula if more than just small amounts are used. Non the less I have a perfume with a profound old worl cedar in it (among others), that works and is really nice, Tumulte pour Homme.

Peter, this was brilliant. I loved your take on these. You have such a gift. Please consider doing this once in a while. It seems very appreciated by your followers, as I do too. You mentioned in a recent video you were not getting very excited about all the new perfumes released. Well I think we are all overwhelmed by the amount of releases and the search for the perfect fragrance. It’s getting to be too much. You channel is very interesting and varied. One question, where did you get the Mysore Sandalwood? I’d love to get my hands on a bottle. If you could help me with that I’d really appreciate it. Cheers!! duane

You can get it from Hermitage Oils in Italy.. or if you want a really aged vintage, you can find one from the 80's from the Indian Government that Ensar has on his Ensar Oud website. I believe even Perfumers Apprentice stocks a little in the US too..

Loved the video. Very interesting and informative. Would also love to see a video about musks and amber.
@FragranceView6 жыл бұрын
Amber is a fantasy accord in perfume really, the original accord was just a combination of Labdanum and Vanillin, it's enhanced more these days with other resins, benzoin, myrrh, to be made more complex
@GollumSmeagol6 жыл бұрын
ohh sorry I meant more like ambergris i.e. Ambroxan, cetalox, grisalva. e.t.c :-D Cheers!

I almost forgot to ask...are there any websites that ship various quantities of low to high-quality, raw materials, which you would recommend? I could see that being quite helpful in making tinctures.
@graysonmichael96966 жыл бұрын
More great content. I use Sandalore in combination with Ebanol when i'm simply creating something, using my Mysore oil every time would just be farrrr to expensive! I just made an order with Hermatige and forgot to include Oakwood, i've been meaning to get my hands on some.
@FragranceView6 жыл бұрын
Only trouble with the Oakwood is it doesn't last well, and the odour profile is on the weaker side.. it's quite expensive too. I am not a fan of Sandalore, you can smell it a mile off in perfumes
@graysonmichael96966 жыл бұрын
I would imagine the "Oakwood" note I see in a lot of perfumes is probably an accord rather than the actual thing? And I can't argue with that, I only use it for initial creation most of the time
@FragranceView6 жыл бұрын
I don't often see Oakwood on note breakdowns, it's possible they use a small amount, and try to enhance it with a bigger accord around it
@graysonmichael96966 жыл бұрын
Actually you're right I've only seen it in about of handful of perfumes. Interesting concept though

Hey Pete just curious about house of matriarch. I own 2 full bottles, sex magic and the longing and many samples of others and every time I wear them people have told me I smell like I have just smoked a joint....have you ever had a comment like this?Mostly when I wear Bitter sweet symphony or the longing
@FragranceView6 жыл бұрын
No not personally... but Sex Magic does contain Cannabis Essential Oil, and it's pretty green smelling fragrance in general... so I can see that sure, the Cannabis oil is a clear top note, she also uses it in Black No.1 and in Devotion too, I can smell it in all three as top notes, . - The Longing, I don't see it at all, it's Jasmine / honey / vanilla / plum stuff going on, there's nothing green about it to me personally, and no one has ever commented on it.. BSS is pretty chocolatey, like bitter praline, I dunno, weird your friends can smell cannabis in those.. Doesn't smell like a joint at all to me

I don't know, Peter, all the Palo Santo essential oils I've smelled have that strange artificial paint or glue note, haha! You can find similarities with the actual wood, but still quite different. Great video! I love when you smell different materials and describe them. I'm curious (and this is not a wood), have you smelled cypriol' AKA nagarmotha? It's a favorite of mine and a bit unusual in perfumery.
@FragranceView6 жыл бұрын
I haven't no!! how's it smell ?
@helenamaal6 жыл бұрын
Dark, smoky, woody, earthy. Hints of leather and maybe tobacco absolute, with a very subtle underlaying sweetness. Still different from those... Very sensual and unique in my opinion! I use it in a few formulas and it takes the whole thing to another level. It has been used as an aphrodisiac in India for a long time. Amazing with sandalwood, nutmeg, lime, or with florals like ylang ylang and jasmine. You need it in your collection :-)

True Mysore is illegal to export outside of India, it's protected.. some people sell "Mysore" but it's not actually from the Mysore region, it's outside of it, but the same tree, like Hermitage Oils in Italy. But you can get a true Mysore from Ensar Oud, he has an aged one from 1988 from the Indian Government
