But the very second they started destroying property A) The protesters should have policed themselves and stepped in to stop that from happening. B) accept that some of the protesters were no longer protesters but active criminals. Do not get mad when the police respond to someone breaking the law. That department did everything they could to keep the protesters safe to do what they wanted to do. They blocked off streets. They made sure they were protected. What happened here is on the PROTESTERS not the police department.

Lawmakers should amend a law which comprehensively protects the law enforcement community. I would call it 'Law Enforcement Protection Act'. It should contain a clause which calls for the mandatory sentencing of minimum of 45 years in prison for assaulting a police officer. I would bet it will significantly diminish the number of tragedies like the one involving officer Travis Brown. Also, it will send a stern warning to those who are actively seeking to harm police officers.

This situation is undeniably tragic, as every life is of great significance. However, the tone of the discussion lessens my feelings of regret or concern, particularly because officers frequently seek empathy when they are impacted by incidents, yet often show a lack of empathy when they take a life. A recent instance of this is the unfortunate death of Sonya Massey at the hands of police in Illinois.
