RAW Video on Canon T3i/600d | Tutorial

Thanks for keeping this video up. I needed this reminder. I just pulled out my T3i that I've had in my closet for years, and I might get some more use out of it now for my channel videos. Amazingly, the T3i still captures great video with my old '70s & '80s Nikon glass and EF mount adapters. Time for some old school inde filmaking.

[600D]NewMem.zip does not work. Fucks the screen all up and the Module page does not show in the camera. I was able to get it to work by using the original file shown in the actual video.

I've been running it on my camera for about 2 months and It's been great for me! Here's a helpful tip: If your camera ever does freeze up when running it, Immediately take out the battery and you'll be fine. :) Hope everything works out great for you!

Gonna have to invest in some super fast cards but hey! Thanks man. PS, to all those doubting this you should really open your ears... a fast card is 100% necessary for this to work.

Thanks for the demo. When I try and record it crashes after one second of recording. Temperature reaches 44C. I put bitrate at 1. Card 80mbs. Any thoughts

How long are you able to record RAW if you have a card that is 90mb/s? Will it just record untill the card is filled up?

It'll be about 12 minutes of raw for a 64GB sd card

So with that card do you ever get a full buffer warning on the T3i when recording video (RAW or non-RAW)? I keep hearing from people that the T3i maxes out at 21MB/s.

Yes that is because it is an update...All you need to do is replace the ML folder on your SD card with the one you downloaded and replace the autoexec.bin in your SD card with the one you downloaded. Hope that helps :)

Hi, thanks for posting the tutorial on how to install ML's RAW feature onto the 600D/T3i. I have a few questions though. Your tutorial says to download "NouniwbCorr.zip". But it seems that more people are downloading "SixThirty.zip" instead. Is there a reason why? Also, if "SixThirty.zip" is the newer version of ML's RAW feature, are the steps in your tutorial for installing "NouniwbCorr.zip" the same for "SixThirty.zip"? Thanks!

Hi. I've just installed ML on my 600D. Whenever I record, the footage looks fine as I'm recording it but when I play back or after converting the files on PC, the footage is cropped, zoomed in and looks rubbish! Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Hey TGP, thanks for the how-to on this... quick question, I want to instal ML on my 600D now but I have a Class 6 SD card and am updating to a C10 UHS-1 in a couple days... does it matter if I use the C6 to install now and just transfer ML+Raw to the new card or would I have to reinstall ML with the new SD card?

The Magic Lantern Hack is installed on your SD card... not your camera. So to save yourself a little work. I would just wait until you got your new SD card, and install it on there.

I have a question. when you're done filming, how do you edit the .raw file? I know that video editors can't edit raw files. I don't have any software like After Effects or Premiere or anything in order to convert it. Is there an open source program that can allow me to do it?

its pretty sad but theres not too much chance to find one, you can just download after effects and premier from torrent, thats what most raw videoers with t3i do :D

Yeah bro same here! Im working on figuring it out. So if you wanna record RAW video and you need audio too...I suggest recording it separately on something like a Zoom H4n or Tascam DR-40! But don' worry...Im working on a solution :)

brief question, if I were to do this would it only be functional on the SD card? As in, if I did this would it be only on the SD card and if another was put in its place would it have any affect on the camera itself? Likewise could I put the SD card into another camera which is similar to the other one and use magic lantern on it?

***** Magic Lantern runs off the memory card, it doesn't replace the firmware on the camera itself.

Yes you will be able to, when you select low level format through the camera menu you can choose to erase ML as well as everything else on the card.

Wait a minute. After you installed ML you didn't have an audio menu (version 2.3 doesn't support audio for the T3i) but then after you installed the module suddenly there was audio override? Really!?!?

I just tried another card which worked until I had this problem. The raw folder I downloaded '[600D]NewMem' it's called, it contains the zip folder and an ML folder. not a MODULES folder. I've tried a few things but I never see the M in my camera. I'm sorry, you don't have to answer. I just need help

hey I have a t3i and my sd card can read n write up to 90mb/s. But I cant record anything over like 960 by 320... why cant I record at higher res. to record at 960 by 320 only take 12mb/s.... I have 90?????? why cant I record at higher res.

because the 600d had a digic 4 processor,and all digic 4 processor canon dslrs can't actually recored a 1080p raw video,the 7d can recored 1080p because it had a dual digic 4 processors

The max is about 1280x720,but even then it doesn't record for a long time. And my SD card is the SanDisk Extreme 16GB @45MB/s.

The T3I can only write of speed of up to 45mb per second there for a 90mb card really does not help. I will have video coming out soon on this.

I think this is because you are installing a newer version. Since I've released this video the developers have released 2 or 3 new updates. Your probably gonna have to do a little research yourself. Good luck bro!

It means your SD card is too slow, it can't write off the footage fast enough. Your card can't keep up.

Yes this true...but it has yet to damage my camera or anyone I know that has the hack. Although if your camera does act up in any way. Immediately turn it off, and remove the battery!

Hey Bro! I figured out the problem...The newest version of the Tragic Lantern hack is [600D] SixThirty.zip and it DOESN'T allow separate WAV recording. But the older version [600D] New System.zip DOES support separate WAV recording. Thanks for the help!!!! :)

what i did was install magic lantern then i deleted "ML" and "autoexe.bin" in my memory card and replaced them with the "NewMem" files.... it looks different but works fine. the raw feautre is under modules->raw_rec.mo

Question: I installed both NewMem and New System. The RAW option on both said my write speed needed to be 65 MB/s. But my SD card is 95 MB/s. Any suggestions?

The 600d max write speed is 45 mb/s

Since when ? Im pretty sure its less than 22mb/ and the 45mb/s read cards actually can be written on at the 21mb/s max, but most of the time they stay at around 18mb/s

if you still have the original files just put them back on the SD Card and replace the new ones from the video. I checked my original module files and found out RAW video module was already on there and turned them on. Theres about 3-4 of them you have to turn on one by one then restart your camera and the RAW video option should be on the bottom of the Movie tab in ML
