It is a wasted opportunity that the Ric Flair president character, having so much power in WCW, just went after Eric Bischoff instead of just getting rid of the entire NWO.

@@camerondalton1495 Yeah, Eric was clearly relying on the nWo in the short-term rather than thinking about a long-term story. He could've had Flair destroy the nWo so that the nWo could go away for a while, fans could miss the organization, then he could've had the nWo come back somehow, as a smaller, more refined group.

@@G360LIVE I was thinking that the Fingerpoke of Doom would have been okay if WCW's immediate response to it happening was for a load of loyalists (Horseman, Booker and DPP, maybe a few midcarders if they were actually going to try pushing them) had run out and helped Goldberg to fight them off before acting as a united front against the nWo. Flair just looked pathetic when he went out on Thunder and whined about Hogan and Nash spitting in the face of tradition rather than doing something about them.

It's amazing that DDP was the face in this angle where Steiner was stalking his wife, then a few years later DDP played the heel stalking Taker's wife in pretty much the exact same story. The WCW version worked so much better. Scotty Steiner was the perfect person to play that heel stalker role and was totally convincing at it, while DDP in that role was terrible miscasting on WWE's part.

What a lot of people don't know is during the 90s, Toronto (and most Canadian cities) was infested with vampires. Steve Blackman had been awake for several days fighting the bloodsuckers before making his way to Raw. He hadn't yet managed the final confrontation with the head vampire. So, he was worried about the innocent people, had been up for days battling the supernatural and had to save something for the end fight with the head vampire. He decided he would let the Rock win so that the good people of Canada could sleep a little safer. What a guy.

I was in Toronto in the days running up to this show and I was walking home from a bar when a woman appeared in an alleyway in front of me. She asked for my help with something so I went into the alley and she went like she was going to kiss me but at the last moment her lips moved away from my mouth and towards my throat. She hissed and bared her fangs and I was literally moments from death. Just then a figure leapt down from somewhere above us and moving almost too quick to see, it attacked the vampire woman. Swinging a pair of sharpened stakes around his head and body, he dispatched the vampire and sent her screaming back to hell. The man vanished back into the shadows but before he left I asked who he was. All he said was "a friend" and then he warned me not to listen to country music. I haven't listened to it since. I have always wondered who my mysterious saviour was. Now I know.

Yeah, I actually remember when the first one was posted and since I had recorded nitro and raw every week so I could watch with a friend of mine, who was in prison during the entire thing, after he got out. I didn't think it would be worth my time. One bored afternoon, the latest episode, at the time, was under suggestions and I put it on, mainly for background noise, then promptly binge watched the series, and now eagerly anticipate Thursdays. I know a lot of people say the attitude era was the best, but for me, late 96-mid to late 99, when both shows were good is the best time. Ecw was also really good for some of that stretch as well and looking back, it is crazy how many legit stars/main event guys were pretty much in their primes or close to it anyway. The last 20 years had a handful of guys reach that level, but the late 90s just had so many wrestlers that could work a main event, and also entertaining mid carders that didn't have any problems with their spots on the card, knowing that if they were going to move up, they would have to earn it, and quite a few did that as well...

As a Canadian, I remember this RAW being hyped well over a month in advance, billed as the "Biggest RAW Ever". They sure got the shaft due to it being relegated to a Saturday show in the USA!

What did Raw do in Canada that night? Curious if it beat Nitro there.
@namikstudios

Considering Bret Hart was in their main event, I'd give Nitro a really good chance of coming out on top in Canada, even though Raw was filmed there. Smart booking on WCW's part to put Bret in the main event to counter the Raw in Canada. It aired live in Canada too, so it was head-to-head against Nitro on the Monday in Canada at least. No idea what the Canadian ratings were though @@ajk

Ah yes very true, as Piper was a Canadian with Scottish heritage. I wonder how many knew of Roddy's true nationality back then though. Was it well known that he was really a Canadian? Because I can't remember it ever being mentioned on WCW, obviously in order to protect his Scottish gimmick @@ajk

I really hate the fact that around this time, WCW was placing so much more of an emphasis on these stupid non-wrestling vignettes where the characters say and do things that no real life human being would say/do if they were being filmed by a camera crew. Just show me some wrestling matches in my wrestling show!

To be fair, it did keep things interesting. These days you have so much wrestling over compelling characters it can be a bit dull.
