Austin helped give Vince the thing that mattered most to him (being the boss again), so Vince paid Austin back by giving Austin the thing that mattered most to him: the WWF World Title. In story, if Austin hadn't given Vince his job back, Vince wouldn't have been there to help Austin win the title.
