what about JOHN SMITH??
@hillbillymods28664 жыл бұрын
@@DiceyJJ The difference is folkstyle versus freestyle. And with that, there is no comparison between Smith and Sanderson. Smith competed in international freestyle wrestling since his teens. Sanderson took gold in Athens two years after the transition to freestyle, beating Romero, widely considered one of the best to ever do it. If it makes you feel better...Sanderson is and will remain for a very long time, if not forever, the best folkstyle wrestler of all time.
@ianshue28904 жыл бұрын
Even though Sanderson’s career isn’t over in terms of coaching, which dynasty do you think will be ultimately better in the end? Gable and the Hawkeyes, or Sanderson and the Nittany Lions? Also (this is a separate question), whenever Sanderson does retire from coaching, who do you think will stay on top? Will they stay at the top? Will Iowa come back on top? Will some other school take over? What are your thoughts
@scourge80972 жыл бұрын
@@DiceyJJ Better Wrestler maybe...not on the same level in terms of team success as a Coach. Cael seems like he was kinda done after he won his gold, so he didn't have the run Smith did or the dominance that Gable had...but I mean...hard to beat Smiths world Titles and domination internationally, but Cael and Gable are so far ahead Coaching Wise....which is amazing given what Smith has done. Those dominant teams from the early 2000s particularly. But like Gable, he took over a program that was already dominant.

I HONESTLY believe wrestling is THE hardest sport in high school or college! You have to have the endurance of a cross country runner, the precision of basketball, the brutality of footballers. I miss participating in this sport. I would have like to have wrestled in college. I wasn't quite good enough though. Although, I LOVED watching my brother Khalil (high school and college all American at Stephen School for Boys in 92' and William and Mary in 94') wrestle. I'm so happy for Cale Sanders! What an AMAZING legacy! And to have legends like Dan Gable watching you and Bobby Sanders coaching you!!?!?😄😃EPIC!!

Oops. I wrestled varsity 3 years in high school-team captain as a senior. I ran a 10k at 33 years old in 35:56 at 5,000 ft altitude on a certified course. I also placed in Mr. New Mexico in bodybuilding. Running is the toughest sport. We had a high school State champion in cross country who came out to wrestle on our team as a junior. He had no experience. He made varsity his first year. He was extremely tough. He had very few losses as a senior.
@YESTWENTYONEWINS4 жыл бұрын
I'll stand on a stage and say it in Iowa or any other stage. Wrong. Running blows away wrestling. Cross fit IS the toughest sport out there. Do your research. The cross country team member who wrestled at 105 on our wrestling team set the Michigan State record in the mile. He was extremely strong and mentally tough. He came very close to beating the wrestler who took 3rd at State. Oh, we had a REAL team. Coach Jerry Hoffman. He was coach of the year the year before he joined our team. He coached Merton Gabara my junior year. Merton won State at 167. He set a National record for wins and pins. Time to learn a lesson our faux wrestling professor.

It's because you can dictate where the fight goes. Use the threat of the takedown with level changes and suddenly an elite striker is fearing your strikes. Use it to clinch on the fence and you're in complete control. Use it to take your opponent down and you dominate with top control. Bjj can only help you on the ground. Their takedowns are pedestrian in comparison.
