First thing I ever saved money from my first job for was a pair of Persols. Sent my money order off in 1996, and got the glasses a month or so later for $200 bucks. It wasn't until last year that they slipped out of my shirt and broke at the bridge. Luckily, Acetate + Acetone. Had my Steve McQueen Signatures for about a year, when my dog jumped up and his nail cracked the lens. The hairline crack has spread, and I'm so bummed!

@@lunaticfade4044 I doubt it. Unless there is a way to order them directly through persols website and I dont think they sell lenses only. There's always the option of getting lenses from any optical retailer but they likely won't be glass as the majority of places mostly use plastic or polycarbonate lenses

I'm so glad I discovered Persol, I now have a small collection, I love them however for a while I was on the hunt for vintage raybans, I think they're worth a look if they're in good condition

RB was much better when it belongs to B&L. I think their glasses were made with much more quality than Zeiss today. One point Italian Ray Bans have against American is the frame, I don't really like vintage american frames against italian ones because the gold paint. Well, at the end, B&L RB used to supply army 🤷🏻.

I have some pairs of RB and like them a lot. I recently ordered a pair of Persol and I have to say, I am disappointed with them. They came with one of the arms not bent like the other, so they stood really awkward on my face. I had to take some time and personally adjust that arm with hot water after I learned how from Google. I had another pair of Persol on the way, so I immediately canceled the order for those. I do not think I will buy another pair, maybe if I find them in a physical store and see how they really look before.

A lot of Persol's are made much better of course. They cost 2-3x more than most Ray-Ban models retail price. But, to me they are all style and not that practical at all. Heavy glass & acetate and metal frames, they become uncomfortable pretty quick. So as much as I like them, I'd sooner grab a lighter pair of Ray-Ban, Maui Jim or Serengetti for 90% of the times I'm planning to wear sunglasses.

Nowadays the situation is vice versa, i.e. most of the Ray-Bans are produced in China. And I agree with you, the quality is not the same, whether Luxottica likes it or not. I have returned all the Ray-Bans that I bought lately. The optician was not surprised, just said: "You can't imagine what do we find in the boxes lately.... but we can't check them all..."

I bought sunglasses from Ray Ban made in Brazil. The quality seemed ok until the paint started peeling off. I can't recommend them. It's less than a year since I bought them so I still have warranty.

I'm brazilian and definetely do not recommend made in brasil Ray-Bans! I bought a polarized Round Double Bridge and in a little after 2 years of ownership the polarized coating/film started peeling off, looks like a car window tint peeling off... ruined the experience for me. Meanwhile i have 4 other Made in Italy Ray-Ban frames that are still almost as good as new (one of them is even more than 10 years old)

Actually Luxottica Persol brown glasses are more like B&L B15 glasses and the Evolve series has nothing to do in front of photocromatic RB B&L 😅. Definitely Ray Ban used to have better quality than today except for the frames, the italian ones are better. But they don't deserve their price for me.

Love both brands…Persol is what you wear when you want to look classy and go dancing, Ray Ban is what you wear when you want to look Rockstar and you’re going to go brawling. That being said: I will never order a pair of Ray Bans for 100-300$ just to have them say “Made in China” on there….wtf? Really? In fact, I’m in the market for B&L Ray Bans that say made in the USA.

One other thing: no Persol model rivals the Wayfarer…BUT, their Tailoring Editions: BETTER than Clubmasters…as long as you have a round/oval face…AND, Luxottica never botched the branding with Persol by adding more logos like they did with RB…that was a mistake, they should have kept the accents subtle.

Not only these two shades but in gral on men I prefer Persol on us women I prefer RayBan. I know there are some more feminine Persol shades but not as nice the Rayaban make for us for us. Another thing the RayBan icons the aviator and Wayfarer look nicer on us than the aviator from Persol which is popular thanks to McQueeen. Yes Persol it’s better quality but RayBan cares more for us ladies than Persol. With RayBan their icons are totally unisex with Persol the icons are just for men. Now there is nothing sexier than a hot man with a pair of Persol sunglasses. They look great in Rayban too( example Tom Cruise). But let’s say you see Chris Hemsworth with RayBan hot you see him wearing Persol even hotter. But that’s just for the guys. Lady Gaga and Emma Stone super Rocked the wayFarer in easy A and a star is born.
