I think it's worth making a video of the ray tracing mods for The Witcher 3, the reflection mod in particular greatly improves the game's standard RT.

So, in 6 years of RTRT technology existing the only game, that is really worth that FPS drop, is still Cyberpunk 2077? Yeah, i know, RTRT is more about saving dev time and energy, but... you still need a 1000+ USD GPU to have really smooth expirience

Path tracing generally removes the fudged lighting from the game entirely. Real light emitters really affect the scene. The cyberpunk scene at 1:39 really demonstrates it. Ray Tracing allowed for nice reflections and shadows, but path tracing showed that many neon lights putting out that much light would light the scene up more than the fudged lighting of traditional rendering.

it still temporally denoises samples, how do you think it runs real time, it can look like a smudge fest at times
@chacharealsmooth94110 сағат бұрын
The smudge is there. Based on that, I wonder what was the intention behind the word generally there.

Curious how Elden Ring's RT offers little visual enhancement, drops FPS by ~40% and power usage by ~10%. Something doesn't seem right with that implementation.
@XutrynX79 сағат бұрын
Congrats. I am also researching Ray Tracing with DLSS and without. This technology really simulates real light. It is expensive but the accuracy is stunning. Many see it as a reason to buy more costly GPUs. For me, it is art and progress toward understanding the world we live in and expressing it through our hobbies.

I think Watch Dogs Legion has some of the best Ray Tracing Implementation ive ever seen but Nobody test it anymore. When I upgrade thats definitely one game im gonna play with RT on for sure.

So far not even RTX 4090 can't handle RT on at native res 4K. I use RTX 4080 Super 1440p and i can say i can play all games fine with RT on + DLSS Quality + FG on. This is the sweet spot to play all RT games with no problem. At 4K no way.

I'm tempted to do this rather than play in 4k

I'm just afraid there's a big difference between 1440p and 4k.

My 5800x is kinda getting wrecked in Indian Jones with path tracing. Huge CPU bottleneck with my 4070 ti super. You must have seen major improvements when you upgraded to the 14700f in that game.

From my personal experience, ray tracing definitely enhances the visuals. But it's still a massively overrated technology. The differences between ray tracing ON vs ray tracing OFF is usually very subtle and not easily noticed. You often need photos or videos comparing screenshots of ray tracing on versus ray tracing off. And in some games, in which the ray tracing is implemented badly or the denoiser is subpar, the visuals look WORSE. The reflections and shadows can actually look worse. And all of this in exchange for what? A MASSIVE performance hit. In my opinion, ray tracing is a cool little bonus. But it's really not that big of a deal and it's NOT worth the performance hit.
@scythelord13 сағат бұрын
It's not really for us. it's for development. Devs want the future where all gaming hardware will be raytracing compatible so they don't have to do anything beyond setting what things emit light and how much they emit as well as each material's reflectivity properties. Having to light a scene takes more time and effort the traditional way. If you can just have presets for each type of light emitter, it's way simpler making a scene look right rather than having to go through all the effort of implementing multiple different effects to fudge the lighting behavior.

You are most likely talking about UE5 games. It depends on games and devs. Cyberpunk does not have such problems as seen in the UE5 game.
@pattap903310 сағат бұрын
Yes its mostly beautiful if not astonishing. But what i see here also is an alarming amount of lazy programming (non RT Shadows!!!) and horriffic DLSS Ghosting, especially in Silent Hill. I think all the new games in UE5 will bring a tough time for gamers, because they hide their lazyness or their need to reduce costs behind RT, so we will need more and more expensive Hardware.
