As a tenor i thought this would be a piece of cake. The big moment is a swift switch to falsetto to a reasonable E5, and the hard parts are the G4 Mine sustains which are. high for a male but not incredibly impossibly high unless you add the B4 Glissando. But no. The amount of support and placement you need to even acceptably pull off this song requires top notch support and relaxation, its insane. Singing this took me years and even then the amount of sensitivity and dynamic control in Bobbys singing make him unsurpassable by anyone who can even hit the notes correctly. Just astounding talent. Thousands of covers and he still reigns supreme

IMHO quality in art has no age group. That's why young girls still swoon over this song, and why so many film reactors on KZbin seem to concur that a black and white film like 12 Angry Men shot mostly in a single room with no FX impresses them so much compared to the big budget action films of the modern day. The only thing that depresses me about watching these reactions is when all these young reactors say "oh that sounds so good for the 60s", or "that looks so good for the 70s"....... Ebb Tide is also one of his solo recordings which is somehow deeper and speaks of a mystical union with his lover by the sea. Both songs are genius works of art and the most romantic you could ever hope to hear.

Nobody can sing this song like Bobby!

the thing about this song is it was first used in a 1955 movie titled "Unchained", music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. Several versions were produced in the 50's. Bobby Hatfield had a band before meeting Bill Medley and he sang this song back then. Unchained Melody was actually a B side on a 45 and the DJ's liked it so much it became a hit, this version is also featured in the movie "ghost". Bill was the producer on that song when Bobby recorded it.

The Incomparable Counter Tenor voice of the late great Bobby Hatfield of the "Righteous Brothers." Done (Live) 59 years ago in (1965) on the "Andy Williams" television show. Unchained Melody written for the (1955) movie "Unchained." The music was composed by multi academy award winner Alex North with Lyrics by Hy Zaret. This live performance has become the quintessential version of "Unchained Melody" of them all. Since then, orchestras and singers have used this arrangement by the NBC Studio Orchestra ever since. No one has sung this song better than Bobby Hatfield and no orchestra has performed this song better than the NBC Studio Orchestra of the Andy Williams Show. Together they created the greatest live performance of all time. Brilliant!

The studio audience was cautioned to refrain from clapping during the performance. They knew what they had coming, and Bobby (and the orchestra) delivered a magical performance.

It's amazing that all my mom's favorites bring me to tears. It was used in Ghosts (with Patrick Swaze and Demi Moore). I was once in Chicago in January teaching a class, and I drove to dinner and then had to sit in my cold car in the cold parking lot until the song stopped on the radio and I could stop crying.

I love your reaction. I'm 70 and still feel the warmth and sexiness of this song.

During the interview, you can hear nervousness in Bobby's voice (1:06), especially when when he says, "...we've been known as that ever since" with a loud exhale. But, just a few seconds later, none of that is apparent as he starts to sing seemingly without effort and with perfect control. By the time he finishes, that bite of the lip is his expression of well-deserved satisfaction with the perfect performance he knows he gave.

video performer Bobby also had a cold which added to the breathlessness. But yes he was very nervous too.

I grew up listening to these love songs during the 60’s and 70’s. We were so spoiled now that I look back. Even though many have covered this song , this is Bobby’s song for eternity. Bobby was also called a life size Ken doll with his blonde hair and blue eyes. RIP Bobby Hatfield.

Your appreciation of this performance is so emotional and rightly so. My wife and I went to Dallas from our home in Houston to see these wonderful artists in person. This is an incredible live video for the ages.

I love this young ladies humble candor. So genuine. I said this on another video, with another young lady, who listened to this for the first time, and it is so fun to Watch their hearts melt... This was, too me, such a time of innocence for us who grew up in this era... Thank you young lady for touching our hearts with the beauty of your presentation...

there's a part where it seems like he just adds an extra "really" in the middle of "I need your love" and turns it to " I really need your love". The way he does it is just beautiful and you can only do that if you know exactly what the song is about. and you can sing like he does :)
@nomadscavenger11 ай бұрын
I caught that, too. It gives the lyric an even more personal touch - he's able to really immerse himself to the point you believe he wrote this love letter himself (which I thought he did until recently).I also think it wonderfully strange and original that Phil Spector thought he could "embellish" any rendition by Bobby with that "wall of sound" for the recording of it; ..can't see Bill or anyone else thinking it could get any better, but most of the radio listeners/record buyers only heard that gigantic/historic addition. It's really a ballad for all time with or w/out any accompaniment, isn't it?(Only a few voices could handle that "wall", IMHO.)🙋

@@nomadscavenger Specter didn't produce the recording, Bill did & his name was on the original pressing of the record. Specter was busy with another project/singer at the time.

I like a number of genres when it comes to music (minus classical, jazz), but as primarily a Classic Rock lover/fan, I'll always maintain this version of "Unchained Melody" is one of the Top-10 greatest musical performances EVER. Bobby just killed it. It was like this was written for him, that's HOW good it was being sung by the GREAT, late Bobby Hatfield. Side note: Bobby was very close to his mother, who was in the audience when Bobby performed this masterpiece. P.S. Love your reaction because nothing was contrived. Good stuff :)
