Jenna Ortega actually took a bunch of lessons to play that song. I think she did really well (even if it's impossible to play for one person). I have to say that Ray Chen guy really phoned it in. I suspect he's never even touched a violin before this scene. 😁

I love your Tonic app of course ... I play ... I sing Opera ... and I saw your 2 Tonic stickers on your PC. 🎉 Great idea ! According to me, Tonic is the best learning music app for musicians/singers. I've recently listened to a young norwegian trio of 3 girls aged from 11 to 13 years old ! It was like she played in my bedroom ! Musicians compose music. But Ray, you compose a music smart app. So you compose the next generation of musicians/singers. ❤ So Ray, I give you the best Music Smart Composition Oscar. 🎵🏆

Ray is always so much more generous than Twoset, and also me in these ratings. "Well, everything was wrong, they used a guitar instead of a violin, and the player had no hands, 7/10"
@RayChenViolinist Жыл бұрын
I think it's because I know some of these actors and they actually read/watch youtube vids and comments from time to time. If someone from the fashion industry started making comments/roasting how musicians dress on stage, we'd be in the same boat.

@@RayChenViolinist Oh man that reminds me of the video of Midori at Carnegie Hall in 1990 and all the outfits look super of-the-time. Anyway, fair enough, I totally understand. (But if you want to do some of the egregiously bad ones, that's cool too!) I don't blame the actors anyway, I'd do whatever someone hired for me too. I was once in a commercial for a large fruit-based computer brand, as an orchestral violinist, and when we got to set they told us to do something completely different than what we were originally told.

from my personal experience from working on movies is that quite often the actors have no clue what actual music is playing or going to be used or how dynamically it will be played, only what direction they're given by the director, sometimes you can get purposeful overlay but quite often it's pretty difficult or not cost effective to try and match to something that may change even slightly and ruin the entire thing, so they just do a general take and use the best parts they can in editing, not the best idea, but sometimes that's all you got.
@StraivtorS Жыл бұрын
That's upto how dedicated the actor/actress to their role, I think. A fully commited person would have asked which piece is supposedly played and try to match it, especially when music is essential to the building of character.

Enjoyed the video, I also liked how you talked about the conductor's style. All of that direction can be very subjective, and it must get frustrating trying to comply with their requests. I've rarely, if ever, seen an actor who is not a practicing violin player duplicate what a true violinist's vibrato LOOKS like, with the left hand. Of course, this is very difficult, so no one even tries. I'm just a guitar player, but the lack of left hand vibrato on violin (viola, cello, etc) looks so fake and amateur to me. I'm surprised this guy doesn't mention this pretty obvious problem more.

Since violin play is so often butchered in films (and not only violins) I wonder, how long do you really need to mimic the proper movement of the bow, bow hold and basic vibrato, disregarding actual play, because obviously we are only mimicking it. Actors spend months on learning certain things so I'd assume months for a violin would be enough to grasp the basics... (wannabe violinist here, albeit a tad older...XD). As for the orchestra thing - Ao no Orchestra shows the struggle of synchronising with other people in the orchestra.
