Hey brother, the hardest part of reorganizing is it's hard to get rid of something unless you know that you'll never use it. And you find that thing you were looking for a year ago..lol Take care brother!

Diagonal braces to ceiling joists from the door rails would prevent the opener from pulling the door and rails to the rear of the room in case of a door jam or if abnormal resistance developed to the door’s movement along the rails. Also, there should be a metal stiffener installed across the top of the door to prevent the door buckling if a jam developed.

Metal office filing cabinets work really good for storing a lot of tools and stuff and sometimes you can pick them up used really cheap. A while back I bought a half-dozen for my shop and have been very happy I did!

Hey Jay! Love your and the Perkins Bros stuff. I learn something every time. I'm a fire hound also, and ended up just installing a wood stove in my garage. So convenient and practical. I'm in Illinois so it gets pretty cold. I've recently done a shop re-org as well. A couple suggestions: make an out of the way but covered wood rack for all your long material. Take advantage of the high areas. Shelf brackets with plywood and plastic bins can hold a ton of stuff out of the way until you need it.Also, nesting bikes (alternating heights) saves a ton of wall space. Love the attic access, by the way. Great job!

I can’t believe it! You say..”then I got this old chest of drawers from my son’s room”….. YEAH, that chest of drawers is known in the furniture world as a big boy. My family inherited that exact one from our Grandparents back in 1960 something. Its craftsmanship is of incredibly beautiful, SOLID wood. I personally don’t have the dresser inherited, but my sister does, I will have to ask her what manufacturer name is engraved… My belief is that you have an incredibly beautiful and rare chest of drawers there!! Just don’t get rid of them…please.

Can't wait to seee how you set up the shop/ I'm retired now, and my house/property doesn't have enough room for a decent shop. I do have enough for maybe perhaps a lathe and a bandsaw, I've ben in love with woodturnng since I was a young lad 50+ years ago hanging out in my great uncle's shop on weekends.

I've had a love and fascination with fire for as long as I can remember. I actually was "arrested" when I was 6 years old for unintentionally setting a power pole on fire while playing with matches stolen from my parents, knocked out power for the entire neighborhood, hahaha. My parents were aware of and worried about my love of fire, and had had many talks with me about playing with matches, how dangerous it was, both to myself and everyone else, so when the power pole went up in flames one Saturday afternoon and I came running back to our house slightly singed around the edges, there was no doubt in anyone's mind who had started the fire. First the fire department showed up, then the power company, then the police. Everyone in the neighborhood was out in their front yards, I was with my parents and my younger sisters in our front yard, and I was amazed (in a bad and frightened way) by what I had done. I guess my parents had a little conference between them before they approached the police and told them I had started the fire. That's when I was arrested. I was handcuffed and put into the back seat of the police car, crying uncontrollably, begging my parents to save me, but my dad was adamant, telling me, you broke the law, you put people's lives and property in danger, you caused damage to public property, there is nothing we can do to help you. The police drove me away while I screamed and sobbed in the back seat, hands cuffed behind my back. I was 6 years old. But they only drove me a couple of blocks away before they pulled over and turned in their seats to talk to me. They told me that if I promised to never, ever steal matches again or play with matches again, that they would turn around and take me home. I was still crying and I remember I had bad hiccups and my nose was running, but I agreed. I told them it was all an accident, I never meant to start the fire, I was just playing. They told me matches were not toys and lighting fires was not play. Once I had calmed down a bit and made my promise, they took me home. My parents didn't punish me, probably figuring being arrested was punishment enough. And the entire experience did change me in that I realized that playing with fire could have very serious consequences. But to be perfectly honest, it didn't stop me from lighting fires, it just made me be a LOT more careful and not get caught. Also, it wasn't that long after that my parents developed a sudden interest in tent camping. We'd go camping for 4-7 days at a stretch and I was always put in charge of the campfire. Having found, thru our camping trips, a totally legit and safe way to light and manage a fire, suddenly unexplained fires stopped happening in our neighborhood. And as I grew into adulthood, I found myself invited to lots of bonfire parties in which I was in charge of the fire. It became a bit of a side job for me, tho I never charged for my services. To be able to light a fire, that was and is enough for me. I am 70 years old now and my love affair with fire has not dimmed, nor has my love of camping. I still tent camp and I am still available as a bonfire master.
