As a Brazilian, I can say that one of the most debated issues within the country is the increasingly early departure of our best players to European clubs. There, they are molded to perform specific tactical roles, losing the traits that traditionally define Brazilian football. In the late 90s, players would transfer abroad between the ages of 23 and 26. Today, it's almost a miracle if they reach 20 while still playing in Brazil. The top athletes now play almost the same style of football, concentrated in five major European leagues, characterized by a highly physical and tactical game. It's worth noting that there has always been tactics and physical preparation in Brazilian football, but the difference used to be the dribbling and creativity. With today’s football concentrated in about 20 major European teams, Brazilian players who go there have become system players, lacking the ability to decide matches as they once did.

I think it’s probably a societal thing which has impacted their football factory. A Portuguese buddy of mine lived in Brazil from 2015 to 2018 and he says the football culture is mirrored by the change in how daily life is and kids don’t seem to care like they used to. Maybe exposure to other sports or activities is the reason. It’s sad to see. Neymar is also the poster child for this. Not the cause but his career personifies that

I can imagine this. I've only been to Brazil once myself about 7-8 years ago but I've got a fair few Brazilian friends in London and from what I can tell, Brazil is a country that has recently become significantly richer quite recently. Access to the internet, to video games, Netflix and the various trappings of basically a modern Western society have started to take hold. The days of the kids having nothing to do but play football in the street have genuinely faded away a bit, so you don't have this 'ideal footballing country' where you had a massive population, huge football culture, nothing else to really distract the up-and-coming kids but just enough capital and infrastructure to run decent academies and maintain good quality coaching.

Argentina has not been as dominant ad you claim. It took them 36 years to win another world cup .There good performances have mainly been as a result of the extra ordinary talent of Messi and also the brilliance of Dimaria who has been prone to injury .When Dimaria got injured in the 2014 world cup semi finals, the burden was solely Messi to carry the team against a very formidable German side and they ended up loosing to Germany in extra time.

Furthermore, i want to say as a dutchman and Ajax fan, that seeing Ronaldo(R9) comming up in de Eredivisie was amazing, he is still one of my favorites of all time. The Ajax team of that time was even better, but PSV was amazing with Ronaldo and Nilis. Interesting as well, is that Ronaldo said that Nilis is favorite partner in the attack of everybody. The intervieuwer was shocked. Brasil, and Brasilian football is special. Like the football from The Netherlands. Unique. The best is that they keep playing in there own style, despite of winning or losing. For me the most special player i have seen play is Ronaldo, el Phenomeno. But the most amazing player off all time is for me Johan Cruijff. Maybe, 'bias' because of The Netherlands. The Brasil shirt will always stay special.

Funny comment, Neymar is actually the main symbol of this failed generation, but instead of chosing him you put Endrick in the thumbnail who barely began his carrer, and is far from being one of the players underperforming in the national team (even Vini Jr. would make more sense). If anything he's the one who simbolizes the Brazil's hopes to return to the top, not Neymar.

I fell in love with soccer / football when I lived in Brasil in 2019. Hearing the cheers every time they scored at Copa America was enough for me to be hooked on the sport for life. Watching the national team struggle these past few years has been tough, and most of the Brazilians I know are frustrated with the play, but I have faith that I will witness a new era where o jogo bonito dominates the global sport. It’s still Brasil, and the sport still belongs to them.

As an Argentinian, Brazil isn’t in decline. Not even close nor in my lifetime at least. When Neymar was the star of Brazil, especially when Brazil stopped calling up Ronaldinho and kaka in the early 2010s. Many were saying Brazil was in decline in that decade. Now that Messi-Ronaldo aren’t irrelevant, many Brazilians now are giving Neymar the credit he should’ve gotten. Brazil wool always have a great abundance of players left and right. Even at theyre worse stage, they have always been better than Argentina post Maradona. Argentina to be fair was overhyped for many years, and it wasn’t until Messi came along and then put Argentina at the same level as Brazil, Germany, Spain, and Italy in the 2010s. Brazil will be back I’m sure soon. I really would like to see Neymar win the WC, so he can finally say we are in the Neymar era of greatness.

I'm brazilian so I'm biased to say, but i'm more worried with post-Messi argentina than with post-Neymar generation, cuz Brazil still got very young Rodrygo/Vini/Endrick, but I don't think De Paul and Lautaro will be able to keep the squad on the very top. Not to mention Di Maria is also retiring soon, and their absence will make a HUGE impact. I know Argentina did win against Brazil in last matchs and is playing much better, just saying I can't see young generation being very promising though

@@marcosyy87 like I said, Brazil will always be great no matter what. Argentina will be okay, but not as great. Post Maradona up until 2010. Argentina was decent but overrated. Brazil has not in any way declined in International football. You know by the number of Brazilian players plying their trade in the best leagues in Europe. Other countries have simply become better, so Brazil is unable to dominate the game like they once did. Football has moved from being a game reserved only for the super talented to a game that is much more than talent. Now you need several variables to be able to dominate football and that is why in recent year, European teams have risen to a point where they are a force to be reckoned with.
