Ancelotti does in fact manage. He sets up the team defensively and certain patterns, but the attackers are free to express themselves creatively. If the attackers are the painters, Carlo allows them to paint a masterpiece.

The fact Real Madrid has been one of the best defensive teams in the world says it all. No one thought they would recover defensively after losing Ramos and Varane without replacing them but they kept on the same pace conceding pretty much the same while winning in Carlo's first season, then Rudiger came and they got even better.

I wish this 'no tactics' thing will stop..... He is a superb tactician. One of the best the game has every seen. Look at how he played Pirlo as a regista. Or how he played Di Maria as a number 8 in 2014. Or how he utilised Toni Kroos last season. Or even how he uses Fede Valverde..... He's a tactical genius. People saying he doesn't have tactics when they couldn't even explain the strategy of noughts and crosses.

Yeah, that's because he was never the man behind a tactical revolution like tiki-taka or gegenpressing. He's also very humble and quiet, not as brash as Mou or Simeone, for instance, so it seems like he just stands there, doing nothing.

UCL 2022 final was a masteclass on how to press on the left side of Liverpool defense and win headers vs Van Djik and Roberson and getting second balls to start attack platforms for Vinicius. I'm tired of these people who don't consider him a "tactics" coach.

They say this because Ancelotti is the worst nightmare of football "tacticos", because he is so unlike system managers like Guardiola, Arteta, Flick etc who they can dissect and break down the structure, buildup pattern etc and use their analysis to showcase their tactical prowess. Showing "this is how they set up in this game, get ready to see more of this", people see more of that next week and think "Wow, this youtube channel/twitter account predicted it. They're credible and I'll keep watching it". Meanwhile what Ancelotti does in a game depends on the opposition and only him and the squad knows what to expect. He adapts within the game a lot which is quite intricate and easy to miss.

I feel like you're disrespecting him. Coaches in academies get taught lots of tactics (that includes Ancelotti since he has a UEFA PRO License) Just because he's not a madman for structure like modern coaches and rather just trains skills and patterns individually which is a different approach from the collective minded "team" controlling coaches doesn't mean that he doesn't have any tactics. In fact I still remember the Liverpool vs Real Madrid final of the Champions League in 2022, that was a tactical masterclass on how to win second balls, defending vs liverpool wingers with Carvajal man marking and Valverde playing as a wing back to create a 5v3 in the defensive line and a masterclass on how play counter attack vs Liverpool High line. I'm a Liverpool fan but just say you don't like his approach instead of diminishing him as a "man manager" only type of guy when his football intelligence is out of this world.
@benedictjajo
@benedictjajo 3 ай бұрын
I'm sorry but nobody says he's not tactically good, it's just that his man management is far superior. It's his outstanding quality. On the contrary, Pep Guardiola isn't a bad man manager, it's just that it's not his outstanding quality. Tactically, Ancelotti has perfected the basics - he's not afraid to sit deep and play on the counter attack if the high pressing is not working, likewise, he's not afraid to play high press or possession when it's required. Same thing with Sir Alex, while Cryuff was bringing total football to Barcelona, SAF was doing nothing special tactically, he just did the basics perfectly and it was his 2nd to none man management that won so many trophies for United.

@@benedictjajo sorry but you're f+cking st+pid. Sir Alex Ferguson was one of the first guys to starting using the concept of the zone 14 in the premier league and sport science to better the physique and technique of players. And also an addition. Ancelotti style of play is the same one that brazil managers use. it's called relationism or associative gameplay, based not on structure but on players association and field tilting with players on ball. Literally older than the 60's with modern incorporations of the game. And also it's heavily inspired in "playing it fresh" style of basketball.

Ancelotti is indeed a great manager and a great tactician, even though he doesn’t have like a signature tactic book. By the way, more credit should be given to Mourinho, he built the team that ended up winning 6 European Cups. He broke Barcelon’s utter dominance, turned Madrid into a competitive team again after 7 years of failure after failure, and in each of the 3 seasons he was here he was 1 or 2 goals away from playing the European Cup final. However, it came at the cost of big stress among the players, a fiercy war with the media, and bringing down what we call in Spain the “sacred cows”, such as Raúl, Guti or Casillas. And we will always be thankful for that.

Ancelotti broke football when he invented the famous Albero di Natale 4-3-2-1 where he played with four number TENs (Pirlo, Seedorf, Rui Costa and Kakà). Then he realised he had to win with talent and not strict tactics. In 2007 he built a team so unbeatable in midfield with Gattuso and Ambrosini and put all the talent of Pirlo and Seedorf to sustain the moment of grace Kaká had. Furthermore he won that year with an old Pippo Inxaghi and with two very disciplined but not extremely talented wingbacks: Jankulovski and Oddo. The oldest team to ever win a CL. He also gave a football lesson to Ferguson in the 2007 semifinal with that brilliant 3-0 under the rain where Ronaldo and Rooney were easily controlled by Oddo and Gattuso.

They both are tactically solid (Zidane 2nd stint and Carlo through his career), with your example Mourinho is the best coach of all time since he won a champions league with Porto, a uefa conference league with Roma, that puts him on the pedestal, greats like Pep should step out of their comfort zone so we can see what they are made of, I know for a fact Carlo did with Napoli and crappy Everton, although no silverware, but he is courageous enough to do so, coming to Zidane, he will only ever manager Madrid in my opinion at club level and outside of that realistically only France NT considering he is one of the best players of all time, he picks his tools and decides when he wants to create his art.

I look at it as simple as micro vs macro management, just like there are different kinds of management in non football world. Tactics is only a little part of job description of a manager. Carlo manages macro, other managers might manage micro (sometimes as hands on as Benitez, back when he even dare to tell player as mature as Modric to stop kicking the ball with the outside of his boot). Some managers let the players express themselves, some others are stricter.

Who said he doesnt have tactics? His greatest strength is adaptability. Look what he did to city. He knew he cant outpossess pep's men, especially when they are at home. And he adapted. Many managers wont do that. In my opinion, he is an excellent tactician, but its just that his man-management far outshines his tactical brilliance. I mean, come on, if having top class players by default made you great manager, anyone managing PSG should've won the CL at least in the past 5 years. Its his man-management + tactics that makes him so successful. And he is also consistent.

Don Carlo allows spontaneity and flair within the game -- unlike the control-freak managers like Pep. The greatest -- Il Magnifico -- in my opinion.

3 Champions League at Real Madrid Imagine how much he could take with them if he was a coach for at least a decade at Real Madrid. 2 with Milan as well and 2 as a player. He is currently the best coach in history. As a Barça fan, Pep is top 3 in a strong debate for top 2. Ancelotti the goat🐐(and I believe that when Pep retires, he will be the best coach in history)🐐🐐

I loved this video. I had heard wonderful things about Ancelotti's leadership style and had been looking for his book Quiet Leadership for a while.
