My future husband and I had our first date Oct 5, 1979. I was 16 and he was 18. I was still in high school. After our date, I was staying at a friend's house for a sleepover and was the last one asleep. In the darkness, amidst my sleeping friends, I was watching the light of her stereo and thinking of this boy. This song came on like a beacon in the darkness and somehow, I knew he was the one. I don't know how I knew...I just knew. We've been together and married since 1983. Raydio was right. Every time we hear this song, no matter what we're doing or where are, we stop, listen, remember...and smile.

"Let me tell you one thang": the combination of Arnell's singing and movement displays an integration of EXCEPTIONAL VOCAL TALENT AND GLORIOUS EXUBERANCE that may exceed even the very best of his fellow 70s and 80s R&B performers. An absolute thrill to watch someone with this level of vocal skill uninhibitedly immersed in it.

Humbert, your point is valid. Not only are most folks today unaware of Ray Parker's solo artist songbook and hits decades ago, but those same folks are oblivious to the fact that Ray went on to a serious career as a producer, arranger, guitar session player and part-time performer in bands like the Crusaders and others. Shame on them, and shame on radio stations for ignoring one of the brighter talents to come out during that era and to transcend musical genres......pop, Top 40, Motown, to jazz, smooth jazz, adult contemporary, yacht music, etc. Probably can only hear this guy on Sirius XM if you're lucky...

I love how animated the 2nd singer is and he added more energy to the song! 1st singer kept his suave but 2nd singer was animated to make the song fun! I love this jam!

The interesting thing about this song is that there are three different vocalists on this song, not two. RPJ carries the basic tune with Arnell Carmichael handling the lead (brilliantly) , but at 2:47 the vocals are done by the keyboard player, who I believe is Arnell's brother Darren. IMO it's the best part of the song.

That is the best downbeat in a pop-song. Having two singers, split the verse & the chorus was brilliant! Listen to the drums, for the groove.
