It will cost the taxpayers money. Billionaire owners and millionaire players. Let them pay for all of it. Shame on the democrats.

Rays should leave . They don't want too be here

The commissioners did what they said they would do. The contract is explicit that the Rays will fund anything over what was agreed upon. I love the Rays, but I sincerely hope that they don't cave into Stu Sternberg. By passing the bond vote, the city and county upheld their part of the deal and protected 65 acres of land in St. Pete. If the Rays want to take their ball and relocate, so be it. St. Pete was fine before the Rays, it will be fine if the Rays leave town.

Yeah, but, the land still belongs to Rays owners. Maybe they will sue each other over the rights😝😝

@@chottozumi it's my understanding, according to St. Pete City Administrator Rob Gerdes, that if the Rays back out of this deal, they will lose their deal to keep the land at a discounted rate. He said: “If the Rays back out, then we have a lot of protections on the Gas Plant side. If the city or county doesn’t go forward, it becomes a lot more complicated.” Currently, both the city and county has done their part. Both lived up to the agreement that was met in July. If the Rays don't meet their end of the bargain, which is meeting the, I believe it's 11 "stipulations" to have bonds issued, then they've effectively killed the deal. Pinellas Commissioners have already said that the Rays won't get another dime out of them. If the Rays can no longer afford to move forward on the deal they agreed to, then it's they that are killing the deal. Now, if it happens that the Rays get to leave AND keep the land, then the City of St. Petersburg learned a valuable and expensive lesson. Who knows, maybe on the remaining 21 acres, St. Pete can build something big and ugly to devalue whatever the Rays build... lol 🤣

I cannot believe that our county approved the bonds without the 11 stipulations required. I do not believe the owner is not talking to another city and that’s illegal until 2028 unless he sells. Our commission and the St. Pete mayor need to quit wasting time on this as was said last week. I’ll miss the Rays but this money grab is insane.
@trclark76894 күн бұрын
It was approved, but the bonds won't be able to be sold until the stipulations are complete. They basically protected themselves from Stu stealing 65 acres of land and leaving town anyway.

The general understanding is that the Rays do not have a finalized plan, and without a finalized plan total costs are impossible to determine, thus the comment from Sternberg that they cannot afford the new cost overruns makes no sense.

Stu wanted a fully funded stadium, so he can sell the team without spending a dime on the ballpark like what John Fisher (Athletics owner) is doing to Vegas. He was never invested in staying in St. Pete, now he is stuck with only one option... Salt Lake City

Rays can take a hike to Salt Lake City or Omaha. Pinellas County did there part. Don't cave into Stu nor Manfred. MLB is a massive boondoggle nowadays
