A lady(God rest her soul) I once worked with told me she watched Ray Stevens grow up in a little old mill village called Clarkdale (just a little south of Powder Springs Ga.) But back then his name was Steven Ray Ragsdale or Ray Steven Ragsdale and when he had signed a recording contract they told him that he needed a new name but being the person that he was he didn't want to give up his identity completely so he and the recording company agreed that RAY STEVENS would work for both of them 👍He has some of the most enjoyable, comical songs that are a pleasure to listen to 😂 I'm like the guy who said he listened to him on 8 track tapes as I did but I also had his vinyl records to in other words he's been around a long time as I have and THANK GOD FOR THAT🙏

I saw the video to this song over 20 years ago. I miss those videos, the station that played true country music, not pop country, or rock country. They took the station off the air. No more true country music being shown anymore. Vj.

In the mid 70's I heard a novelty song about a songwriter whose songs always flopped... Only one I recall was a gospel number, "Turn Your Radio Off"! His titles were all mis-takes on popular songs! I would love to hear it again but recall nothing else... but if it wasn't Ray Stevens, it was funny enough his fans might know it, I hope! Maybe Don Bowman?
