Razer Keypad Comparison (Tartarus V2 Vs Orbweaver)

Its like the Tartarus is the big brother to the Nostromo. I loved the Nostromo back in the day. The resemblance is insane, they brought back the d-pad with the round button above it, and the scroll wheel on the keypad itself. They just pulled an old Nostromo out of the closet added 5 buttons across the top gave it RGB lighting and BOOM. Tartarus is born.

I've had the Orbweaver for years and only recently learned it's adjustable. LOL Originally bought it to play Diablo 3 and never did so it was just lying around in a drawer. This year I wanted to sell it but decided to try it out again, and now I'm using it for Diablo 3 and 4 all the time. :) I just wish it had an actual analog stick.

Why does no one ever use the joystick for movement? You save yourself 4 keys right there that leaves your other 4 fingers for reloading melee etc...

Im not sure honestly im really just so used to using WASD i guess but i just you the driectional buttons for other stuff like menus and stuff i dont use to often. Really just because i have a mouse that has a ton of buttons and i use those for almost everything.

I am glad you made this video, its very concise, to the point, great video quality, and very informative! You helped answer my questions and I think I will be going for the Tartarus V2! I love these "gamepads" for the sole reason that they can have their macros set any way you like, and i see its use not just in gaming but trading, in coding, and scripting/multi-tasking

I remap jump to my mouse and use the thumb pad for movement leaving all the other buttons for quick bar and actions such as sprint and roll, slide, grenade etc. has made gaming for me enjoyable and less painful for my disabled wrist.

Personally I've never owned a keypad and have only ever used either a traditional keyboard or a game controller. But I definitely see the benefit to switching/upgrading to either of these. Though I have been told there is a learning curve for first time users. I'm thinking of getting the Tartarus btw.

Honestly its not a big curve the main thing you have to get used to is the fact that now your thumb is for more than just jumping lol. I definitely recommend it even if you start off with a cheaper used option like I did! Also its more comfortable than a traditional keyboard.

I would've liked a roller wheel on the orb weaver. Like the adjustable palm rest and its great for gaming and art software

While I liked the ergonomics of the Tartarus, after about a year and half the D directional key barely works. I use mine for WASD in gaming. I had to pull out the Orbweaver because I just couldn't get it work right anymore. The Orbweaver is still working great after years and years of use. My only complaint with the orbweave is the palm rest, but I replaced that with a gel wrist pad. Too bad Razer won't upgrade it for Synapse 3.0, it's better than the Tartarus imo.

Great video! I was thinking about to trade my new and very expensive tartarus pro (im brasilian) for the orbweaver, because i find difficult to use the directional and to get some money back, but the orbweaver directional would be worst for me, seems more distant, so after this video i will keep the tartarus and learn how to use the d pad!

Ele se assemelha muito a esses dois modelos, porém meu medo é o fato do tartarus não ser mecânico... Podee me dizer como está sendo sua experiência com ele?

I stopped using the bottom thumb button as 'space bar' back when I was still using the Belkin Nostromo (which Razer bought, and then modified into their own designs). Reason being, sometimes you need to move and jump at the same time. Fairly often actually. And I like to use the directional pad/stick for wasd (feels natural if you're used to old school console controllers). So I retrained my muscle memory for "jump" to the leftmost row 3 button, and next to it I have shift, then L-ctrl in the center of row 3. Totally new muscle memory situation, definitely a learning curve, but it's easier to move foreward, sprint, and jump, all simultaneously, and while running & jumping I still have index & middle finger ready to go on 2 other keys. I just disable the bottom thumb button (assigned to nothing). Since it's easy to accidentally press, yet awkward to use while moving. I think it's a good solution if you prefer using the D-pad for movement, but it does take a couple weeks to retrain your muscle memory all over again.

This is a good take I actually ended up switching over to a azeron key pad and it solved all the problems I had with the orbweaver and tartarus

@@wiredcreator5999 I'll have to look into the Azeron then. I was checking around on reviews to pick a replacement game pad. My orbweaver's directional knob is developing a stutter on the W (think the switches are just shot, I'm sure i press W about as much as all the other keys combined hehe).

Yeah absolutely understand that lol. And I would see if you can find a used azeron if you decide on that route they are bit expensive new but I bought both of mine used and they work great.

@@wiredcreator5999 Took at look at Azeron, I don't think it's for me. So many parts and tiny screws, seems very fragile. I mean, I adjusted my orbweaver perfect for me, and then filled all the adjustments with rubber cement to make it more robust. Azeron would be going in the opposite direction. Also, the mouse switches... I've had nothing but problems with mice made in the last 8 or 9 years, because even the most expensive mouse switches are pretty terrible in build quality these days. I mean I have a 20 year old early laser mouse which has probably 100 million clicks on it, and it 'never' doubleclicks. I just keep buying modern mice cuz I want more buttons, and then i have to throw them away in under 2 years. Ergonomically, it seems very adjustable. But it doesn't look like it would work at all if I have any kind of nails growing. And honestly, the idea of hitting switches with the top of my finger sounds like it would cause a lot of discomfort/fatigue with prolonged use. I can see the appeal for people with smaller hands, but I'm kind of an amazon, and don't have that problem. Although I did find the 4 rows on orbweaver to be a slight stretch, particularly pinky-side. ...but i just reversed the keys on the bottom row, so their curve juts out differently, and that's enough to make them easy to hit. I use those keys for anything which isn't twitch-reflex. The numbers are upside down, but i wear those off fast anyway. Think I'm gonna stick with Razer. I'm not a brand loyalist or anything, they have flaws, but it's the devil I know. I wish the pinky row of buttons was offset a little further back, I wish the orbweaver glue didn't leak out and need replacing with real glue, I wish the thumb was a D-pad or an x-box style analog stick. And I'd pay $20 extra just to have synapse not crash a game when it gets an update notification. But I like them otherwise hehe. Pretty sure I'll just get the tartarus v2. Although... I'm intrigued by the possibility of getting the pro version, and setting a few keys up to do single-click with a shallow press, or same-key click-spam with a full press. I could see that being useful with mouseclick or E key, maybe others. I fondled one at a store, I don't mind the keypress, it reminds me of cherry-Red's. I'm indifferent to the 'click' or 'no click'. But if the distance between the two isn't a consistent 2mm of travel, then I'd just get the non-pro, so i can easily reverse that bottom row of buttons. I like that it has a D-pad option now :) First I need to do a tear-down on the orbweaver though, and make sure it's not just a stray cat hair in the W switch.

When you talked about the button above the D-Pad, how does it feel? On the Orbweaver it is very clicky and spammable compared to the Tartarus V2 Pro it is very stiff and not spammable. I'm hoping maybe I have a bad model and maybe I should RMA it. I've been scouring the internet looking for anybody complaining about that button, but really haven't seen it mentioned. Yea i had that problem once. I couldn't get it to change profiles at all and nothing was working so i just ubplugged the keyboard deleted and freshly installed synapse and it worked again!

actually in the Orb weaver the direction pad is still only a 4 directional pad not an 8 like advertised, there are still only 4 switch's in the directional pad. my Orb weaver has seen its miles!!!! I am switching to an Azeron, I am honestly tired of the failure in switchs to Razer products, and there nothing compared in Quality to the Belkins they are designed after, Azeron did just release the Cyborg preordered it my self, but might be worth taking a look into for ya

@@wiredcreator5999 already have a Azeron compact, unfortunately I bought it second hand had some drifting issues at first till a Azeron rep told me what to do but already got a refund and have to send it back, Azeron is second to none! you want the best gaming key pad its going to be an Azeron, my building times dropped to about a 10th of the time in less then an hours practice, the Cyborg has better adjustability, more buttons, any ways 3 weeks is not that bad I know they have started shipping them out, preordered mine so 3 weeks is mehh

With these I typically use the dpad for extra buttons like crouch and prone and just setup the keys with standard WASF. I've now switched over to using an azeron which uses a Xbox analog sticks and it's leagues better than both of these but also more expensive

Do not buy the tartarus v2! Its unusable right now. Razer didnt fix the sticky-key-problem since over a year now. Its a software issue with synapse 3. Your character will walk in one direction every now and then untill you tab this direction key again. Its totally unusable for any gamer and a shame for this company, that they didnt solve this issue since over a year for a product worth over 130$/150€...
