Already was a Verizon member and got a deal for it for $10/ 36 months. So, just $360. It's been great for youtube and streaming, though. I think a lot of people are comparing it to other handhelds, but realistically, it's just a very portable tablet. Great for android games, has hardly any issues with emulation up to PS2 games, absolutely fantastic for GameCube and PSP games. Yes, I could get a steam deck, but being able to whip it out anywhere with internet connection everywhere has been its defining feature for me.

So to get around the lack of a back button I go on to the system setting and change the gesture setting to 3 button navigation. The when swipe up u get a on screen back, home, and active app button. Also with skyline you need to pick the right custom drivers from their discord. I recommend the 615 ones. I’m not sure why you didn’t use the built in virtual controller option for call of duty? The current biggest flaw with the edge right now is that the sd card slot is limited to fat32 which means a lot of switch and wii games will not fit on the card as it is limited to 4gig files. What I really like about the edge is the flexibility between gaming hand held and android tablet. I also use iPhone now so it is nice to have a side android tablet to keep everything I picked up with I was in the ecosystem and use without the controller as a e reader, media device, and controller. Digital board game ports also look really good on it as long as they are optimized for modern phone screens.

There are also other stuff about the Edge in regards to software that set it back against other options. They kishi V2 Pro integration could be enhanced to be firmer and make it feel more like a single unit. Someone could 3D print a mold for that. But the biggest thing for me is the rounded and overly long/wide display. Had it been 16x9 or even 16x10, at 1920x1200, it would have been a LOT better (easier to drive)

It may have a more powerful cpu and uses the kishi v2, but you’re getting way less actual game on this than you should when playing 4:3 content and can drain the battery by quite a bit even in sleep mode, and if I want a device strictly for streaming I’d probably use my old iPhone with a backbone controller and if there’s games on ps2 or gamecube and beyond that I can’t play on my Odin, well my steam deck has me covered if I don’t wanna use my desktop. The whole idea of a separate controller attached to a tablet makes lots of sense and gives amazing versatility to the device. But Razer has to improve certain things. The tablet must be at 7"+ inches (8'' like the PS portal would be amazing) otherwise as many viewers said, you can use your phone instead. In that size there is a valid reason to use the Razer instead of your phone and also to use the tablet for other content consumption. It would make perfect sense and I would buy one tomorrow as with one purchase I would have a tablet, a gaming console and a controller to use with my phone when I don't wanna carry the edge around.

If I was in the market for a new Android phone, I could consider this device, although 6 GB RAM is a little low... I am on Verizon, so I could get that model instead. Attach the controller to play and detach it to just use the phone, especially on the go and if I only have up to 5 minutes to burn. I agree on the USB-C charging-only passthrough complaint, but it's a minor complaint for me. The biggest problem to me is how lots of Android app developers, including those from Google themselves, treat Android as a third-rate platform, with them assuming that only mobile touchscreen devices run Android. Even Microsoft and Amazon are trying to help Google eliminate this perception.
@shassabo

One good argument for the separate controller is for touchscreen only games or using it as a more comfortable tablet. That might be part of the reason they did it like this. I'm not saying it's perfect logic, but it's a plus.

My PC gaming buddies give me lots of shit for being in my mid 30s and just now getting into gaming on my phone but these dudes are sleeping on a great gaming experience. Everybody has a phone and if you already have Game Pass, then with the addition of a ~40$ Kishi v1 you have an amazing handheld gaming experience. I continue to listen after a Steamdeck but in the meantime this setup is almost perfect

Would you recommend getting an AYN Odin over the Razer Edge if I'm specifically looking for PS2 emulation?

While I love the Odin, I'd say if you want a handheld primarily for PS2 emulation, I'd recommend the Steam Deck.

This is a classic razer brain. Their Kishi product is still testing the water. Reminds me of when Razer first released a laptop and the next year, they made a serious move into the market. 🤣

Just throwing it out there-- I have a Pixel 6, using a razer kishi runs gamecube beautifully. I have played twilight princess portably with no issues

The replaceability of the controller is amazing… a button or joystick is broken, it’s way more convenient to replace or repair…

Having the controllers not built in is a definite pro In a few years, if phones get good enough to emulate more modern hardware (let's say Xbox One / PS4), you can just buy a new phone and slap the controllers onto that. Of course, this limits the Razer Edge to people who don't already have an Android device that they can slap a Kishi to, which is a small minority of people.

Idk why this exist. Why would someone get this over a steam deck, unless u are hardcore into mobile games. A gaming tablet like the nvidia shield with kishi would have been a much better proposition.

They did make a windows based handheld years ago. Ironically the razer edge with like a tablet for factor a controller sled and an nvidia 730 if memory serves

Speaking of your camera/photography video.... Tito just released a gameboy camera mod that I think a lot of people would love to see you try out.

The Kishi v2 is just a straight up clone of the Backbone controller, except for android and adds those useless extra buttons. Really, since you’re an iPhone user and you like the Kishi you really should pick one up. It’s amazing.

at this time, the kishi v2 does not have a headphone jack. the kishi included with the razer edge is the kishi v2 pro, which they do not sell yet. I bought a backbone because it has a headphone jack.

Well there is Wreckfest on Android. Grid Autosport. There was a time when Kotr and jade empire was on Android and Nvidia Tegra versions of half life 2 and borderlands 2 and tps

I guess it's 2 parts so you could theoretically upgrade the brain and screen later on, of course this is only valid if a possible version 2 is in the same dimensions

as someone who owns a steam deck and gaming pc i ended up getting the edge with 5g from verizon for only 9.99 extra per month on my bill sometimes i dont want to lug out my entire steam deck which is much heavier to play some games. with the edge playing a quick game of halo is awesome when the steam decks steam os cant run infinite. i understand the issue with the cod mobile controls but there is 3rd party software ive found that works decent. but for myself the removable controllers are there for storage. having a seperate case for the controllers and slipping the tablet in my backpacks tablet holder makes everything much easier then my steam deck. in fact the versatility of the screen and removable controllers makes it easier at work. im not stared at for bringing a thick giant gaming device and media viewing is incredible including steam link where i can sit back and play hogwarts with better quality and visuals compared to my steam deck.

From a marketing perspective, if people hear a game is going to be a console, PC, and mobile game, it will only be known as a mobile game(with a lot of negative connotations). That's what keeps indies off androids, at least for the first few years after release.

For $400 you could also buy a Switch Oled or two switch lites. Honestly entertaining video.
