Hey, RB, it's something about you as a mechanic that I trust, and I literally follow you and three other mechanics that I can trust, listen, and confide in. RB, I brought this situation up a little while ago,but my current situation is getting worse. I am currently driving my parents 1998 Camry, which they got brand new in '97, so we have been the only owners of it for 26 years. The car never had a transmission fluid nor a differential service done in its entire life. Right now, when I put the gear in "D", instead of driving, the car will reverse, and other times if it's in "D", the car will take almost a minute to drive, even when I press the gas pedal . This happens a lot if the car is cool, or have been parked for a long time, like first thing in the morning,or if I'm leaving the store or something Many sources say not to change it because of the age and mileage and the slipping might get worst, where I might need a new transmission, but some tell me I should drain and fill it, but not to flush it ,which I would never do. I am tempted to have it drained and fill, but I do not know what to do. My mechanic told me that I can drain and fill it, while the Toyota Dealership said it would be a risk, but it could still be possible to do. I just do not know what to do??? The fluid is dark brown, and it's level is normal, as I checked it . Should I drain the the ATF and differential on a 26 year old car with 136,000 miles??? I am so confused and lost!

Well ur having issues not sure if I would say do the flush or not but it should had been changed several times could be dangerous to do now but it’s ur call also check the transmission shifter cable and bushing to see if the is no play or anything which can cause car to be at different position than what u got in

@@RBTheMechanic I appreciate it RB! I was not going to flush it, only drain and fill it, like an oil change. So, the drain and fill can be risky/ dangerous, too?? I understand, it should have been changed at the correct intervals, but it never was . If I do a drain and fill, it will be the first time in the car's life . I understand what you mean, it is a tough gamble. Either way, it's a risk... if i do it, it's a risk, if I don't, it's a risk and can still get worst. Tough gamble. I even hear a whining sound when I accelerate.
