Well... here I am. The comment following the last one 10yrs ago. All I can say is... thank you soooooo much for your tutorials. I felt so overwhelmed and lost trying to figure things out. Anyone I knew who had an RC300 were too busy to help so it forced me to figure it out. And after numerous searches there you were. I hope you're still out there. I know a lot has changed over the past 10years. I just hope you know how important your videos are and how you can feel your passion through them.

Hey Robby, thanks for the kind words! Then you'll be interested in some upcoming videos I'll be making. I'm using the RC-300 in a live band scenario with a drummer. We've come up with a way of staying synched up with the machine even when it gets loud. I've had several drummers who absolutely refused to even try after a few bad experiences. But now it's going to be great, working with just a drummer, and pre-recording the bass parts, recording the rhythm parts live, we've got a 4-piece band.

I've watched hundreds of people on KZbin looping with an RC-300, but it's often a mystery exactly what they did with the individual tracks and how they used the three RC300 tracks to create their arrangement. When I first got the 300, I thought I would never be able to work the pedals and play at the same time, but now it's no problem at all. Mostly I just have to remember to switch tracks when a chorus or bridge is coming up, and sometimes when I'm playing a complicated lead, it's still a bit hard to get a pedal push in there. That's why changing tracks on loop end, rather than immediate is critical - it makes it 100% easier. And I've learned to look down and make sure the green light is flashing

Really useful video, thanks!! I might buy one. I do acoustic solo gigs and have wanted to be able to 'drop the drums out' of the loops I make but the smaller ones only allow A, AB, ABC you can never have BC on their own. I find for lead/solos where you need to be louder, having an EQ pedal as a volume boost going in solves that fairly easily.

You can hold the pedal down for 2 seconds on any track, even if another track is playing, and it will erase that track without disturbing the playback of the other track(s).

I had recently purchased an RC-30 and, a few days later, I then just 'happened' to find this RC- 300 Tips & Tricks article/ review/ tutorial !! Your very detailed and clearly presented information then 'switched' a light on for me and, I promptly returned the RC - 30 to Guitar Center and bought me this great RC - 300 instead !! Hi Mr Clayhorse, quick question as I'm seriously considering buying this product and seeking clarifications. As you mention above if you hold down down for 2 seconds on any track (even if another track is playing), then this will erase that particular track without disturbing playback of another track. I assume this is in multi mode? My question is...is this also possible in single mode too? For example, I've just recorded a track on phrase 1 and 2 and I'm now recording on phrase 3. I don't want to go back to any of the previous phrases as I want to record something completely different. I realise that at the point I'm currently at in the song, I don't need phrase 1 any more. Is it possible to delete the content by holding down stop for phrase 1, then record a new track onto it once I'm finished with phrase 3? (I hope this is understandable!)

If you press stop on any track while you are recording, it stops the recording and switches to playback automatically. So if you were recording something on track 3 and decide to delete track 1 mid recording...it would ruin the song. Hope that's what you're asking :o

Yes, you're absolutely right. The faders are great for quick, live adjustments. But sometimes on different songs and guitar settings, the playback volume does not match the live recording volume, so if you know that in advance, you can adjust for with the menu for individual songs. Cheers, Bruce.

...machine to a whole new level of live performance capability I never dreamed possible. Where we are breaking new ground is with the idea of integrating the RC300 into something more than a solo performance machine. I can pre-record bass parts, and so with my super-drummer, I've got a rhythm guitar player and a bass player - a 4 piece band for the price of a duo. Thing the club owners will be interested? You betcha! Also as a singer, you can do wonders with harmonies, etc. But stay simple!

Yes, absolutely. I use the Boss FS-6 to control the memory location selection up/down. The machine actually comes defaulted for use with this switch out of Ctl 1,2/Exp 2 port in the back You just plug a stereo line into the pedal and the RC-300 and that's it. If find it essential for switching songs quickly, and not using the double-functions of the main pedals to do it or bending over each time, which gets extremely tiring.

I SO want to use this thing live (to it's capacity), but right now I'm using it just as I use my jam man,,, just one loop, and this thing is HUGE. I also find it's hard to hit the right pedal when your mouth is planted on a mic. I loop mostly vocals at this point so it's super tricky!!

Truly appreciate your video's on this looper. I do like " Boss products , however with all the touting of so called "Advanced Technology " , I expect and WANT , a perfect instrument / voice looper that's well made, storage / multiple storage banks, small, lightweight, runs on AC or battery, easy to use, LOW COST looper that's geared to use on live performances right out of the box without having a learning curve , and/or software problems. As far as I'm concerned , all the loopers on the market offer none of the above.

With a keyboard player you can use the canned rhythm patterns. With a drummer, you have to generate a clear click track, and still it's ever-so-easy to end up in the weeds. Just getting the slightest bit off it's hard to get back on track. But yeah, keep it simple. I had a 4-piece band, worked for months, and it all fell apart overnight. Now I'm working with a pro drummer, super reliable guy. The extra sound technology is worth it to save all the personnel hassles. And we kick ass. :o)

The safest way is to press the Stop pedals for 2 seconds on any of the tracks that have data in them and clear the active memory. Then save (Write) the song back to the present location. This will ensure that the memory is empty, but you have not disturbed any of the settings for the song. If you use the Initialize function as part of the Write, you will destroy all of the formatting information, as well as clear the name of the song. ~bb

The RC300 works best in the solo environment, for sure. It's a bit tricky trying to use it with other musicians sometimes, especially a drummer, but when it's just you, there's no limit to what you can do with it.

doncolga08 The RC-300 is most useful for the solo performer like yourself. We're using it live with the trio now as backing tracks for some songs that I have recorded some Cajun Zydeco accordion parts. I run it straight into a channel on the mixer board. The sound quality of the RC-300 is top-notch - as good as any MP3 or WAV device you might use for backing tracks, so that's just another dimension you can explore. You can use a combination of "canned" and live improv over it. I record my Yamaha synth parts straight into the RC-300 track(s) - simple and easy. Cheers - Bruce.

Seems to me an easier way to balance volume 'on the fly' is to simply record backings with the guitar volume knob about half, then do your solo on full. So you keep a bit in reserve for the real live stuff. Excellent video though, thanks for posting!

Excellent. I have a question for which I couldn't find an answer here: I want to have free length loops in all tracks. Then I could record in the first track a specific length, and then the other tracks could be also set to free lengths. My only question is whether the loops would align (eg., if the first track is a 5-second loop, and the second track is a 11-second loop, will the second track be on hold until the first track finishes its second repetition?). Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response. My RC-300 is still in the mail on it's way here so I'm just trying to get a heads-up before it arrives. Another quick question on switching songs. When a song is switched (say using the FS-6) do any of the previous tracks keep playing or does everything just stop?

The way I usually approach a complicated new piece of equipment is to pick maybe 3 to 5 functions that I want to use - stuff that might comprise 75% of what you do all the time - and just get a handle on that. Then figure out one or two features and functions every couple of days. When you realize you need it to do something new, you figure out that one thing, rather than trying to figure it all out at once... Have fun!

Yes, it needs a battery to work at all. You have to remember to unplug the 1/4" plug(s) to turn it off, although a 9V battery lasts for a very long time. There's an LED on each pedal indicating toggle/latch plus a separate red LED indicating that the unit is on.

Hello, I'm wondering why the RC-300 thinks I'm recording 16 bars when I record a 12-bar loop. At first I thought I had learned the 12-bar blues progression wrong all these years, but then I listened to my loop and it is clearly 12 bars... yet the RC-300 thinks I've recorded 16 bars... therefore the rhythm feature (drums) is all messed up.
