When the registered owner of a motor vehicle dies, the intimate the death of the registered owner to the concerned Registering Authority within 30 days of the death of the registered owner.
Application for transfer of ownership has to be submitted in form 31 with the following documents within 3 months.
i) Attested copy of the death certificate, Legal heir certificate, Consent
Consent letter signed before a notary public, by all the other legal heirs stating no objection to transfer the ownership of the vehicle to the legal heir.
Prescribed fee remittance slip. On receiving the application, the applicant has to appear for a personal hearing with originals of all the documents submitted before RTO and after verifying the originals of the documents produced, transfer of ownership process will be started.
