Making of a scratchbuild Spitfire from 3mm and 6mm Depron sheets. To form the fuselage, I'm using a technique with tape and heatgun.

Excellent. It really looks like a late marque Spitfire.

That's a stunning looking model and it seems to fly very well too.

Isnt it crazy, arf companies would charge easily $200-$300 usd for that, which can be made from $5 woth of depron, lol. Fun is in flying, but crafting something with your own two hands is priceless.

Excellent job and very impressive moulding technique. Did you cover the depron with anything ( glass cloth or paper) before painting?
@scalercmodels9261 Жыл бұрын
I added only water based parquet varnish prior to the paint (Revell Email Color)

Nice technic ... can you please tell us what material you use for fuselage moulding ?
@scalercmodels92613 жыл бұрын
The material is 6mm Depron. The mold is just simple wood (spruce I think but not sure. Just took a piece I had left in my shed)

Great idea, is there another name for depron? How thick? 3mm? Im looking for foam here in the Philippines but cant find anything good
@scalercmodels92616 ай бұрын
Depron is the brand name, it is very fine extruded Polystyrene. I found it also under names like Selitron, XPS and others. Since these plates are common to be used as indoor isolation, you may also find it in shops for painters or upholsterers🎉

Informative. I have a question. Did you remove the tape once the fuselage sides were molded?
@scalercmodels92613 жыл бұрын
Yes, just before I glued both halfs together

@@scalercmodels9261pulling the tape off didn't tear the foam? Is it sellotape?

What brushless motor, propeller, battery and ESC did you use? I want to try and make this legendary spitfire.

fantastic, 5mm and 3mm depron?

Yes. Might also be 6mm and 3mm, can't remember, I'm using both 5 and 6mm

Great video, thank you. I would have thought after heating the tape for 15 minutes the glue from the tape would be impossible to remove from the depron but you seem to do it, so I guess it's not that hard?!
@scalercmodels9261 Жыл бұрын
It is easy to peel it off. Just be sure you peel it off before glueing the two halfs for the fuselage together 😊
@bentravis99 Жыл бұрын
@@scalercmodels9261 would you be able to do this using balsa do you think? I would love to try this for a micro fuselage and 2mm depron, but carving a harder wood with such small details would be a real challenge!

Is there a way to curve foam board into a circular fueselage without a mold?
@scalercmodels92615 ай бұрын
I habe never achieved an acceptable result without a mold. At least anything to bend it around is necessary imho

Print a 3-view drawing of the plane, take away 5mm (thickness of the Depron sheets), saw a board according to drawing and then sand it into shape
