These things make great cheap conversions! Not a bad build there. The XT60 is a bit of overkill at this size though and we prefer to keep the battery separated from the electronics. If you can slot it in under the COG it allows for different batteries without shifting the balance and saves all the scrunching of wires to get the lid on. 😉

Weight is king with these mods. My conversion, a MPX Fox with wingspan of 500 mm weights 64 g. At that weight its a docile flyer for indoor and outdoor. Above 75 g the bird has a nasty tip stall. My components: 10 g brushless motor, 6A Turnigy ESC, 4ch Orange RX, 2s200 mAh lipo, 2 2.7 g Servos. All servo cables replaced by copper wire, all connectors except battery removed and soldered directly. Battery connector 2 mm aluminum, gold plated.

Made something similar, hovewer I made it only with parts i had on hand. Ended up using an arduino nano with an nRF24L01 module as the reciever. The only thing i'm missing right now is the motor, and an esc. I bought them yesterday and I'm still waiting for it to arrive. P.S: I also have to buy a new battery, since an 9V 6LR battery isn't very practical EDIT: Forgot that I also built the "controller" myself

Both of you are misinformed. These toy gliders are made of EPP (Expanded PolyPropylene) NOT EPS (Expanded PolyStyrene - also known as Styrofoam.) EPS (beer-cooler foam as used in many Horizon Hobby RC planes) is badly affected by the solvents in many glues - use ONLY Foam-safe glues with it or see your plane dissolve! EPP can tolerate even rubber/contact cements with Toluene solvents (something that would INSTANTLY dissolve EPS!) The solvent WILL however generally mar any painting on the EPP foam until it evaporates! There is also EPO (Expanded PolyOlefin - various mixtures of different plastics including EPS and EPP) which require some care with your choice of glue. ALWAYS test the glue and foam on a scrap piece BEFORE you start trying to stick your plane together! 😉😊

@martijnvdbrakel7578 yes I did cut off some parts that were not needed, to make the tail move, and the 86cm version can run way bigger motors as well, say a 60 gram brushless running on a 2-3S 1000mah li-po or even bigger. I will make a video of one soon.

I have a question. How did you exactly know where to make the holes in the plywood for the screws to attach the plywood to the motor as a mount for it? Eyeballing it seems very difficult.
@Lopez_rc
@Lopez_rc 8 ай бұрын
I made one hole first and attached the motor, then placed the other screws right behind the motor mount, indeed not very exact but it worked.
@theoztreecrasher2647
@theoztreecrasher2647 5 ай бұрын
To make a good template for a motor base (or gasket for an engine head) place a piece of painter's tape neatly over the motor base and tap a ball bearing slightly larger than the bolts/motor bearing over the hole. That will cut out a disc the same size as the holes. Remove carefully and place over your plywood. Or better still a strip of flat metal. Once you have neatly drilled that through you have a permanent pattern that you can use many times. As you use more differently-based motors, add their base patterns to the metal strip. 😉
