Project Description:
********************
in today’s episode, you will learn how to design and build your own RC airplane. I will explain in detail how to calculate each and every part of the RC plane so that you can make smaller or bigger RC Airplanes. It really doesn’t matter whether you are using Balsa wood, Styrofoam, or other types of foam board sheets, or 3d printed parts, the calculations will remain exactly the same.
There are important things which I will also explain with the help of these 3d models, you can see this one is normal and to the other one the aerodynamics is applied. When you cut parts of the model it really affects the aspect ratio and interns it affects the RC plane stability. So, I will explain in detail how to keep the same aspect ratio even if you cut some parts of the RC Airplane.
Anyhow, before designing and making the bigger RC airplane I started with the micro version of the airplane to test my calculations and I was pretty happy with the results. Finally, I did calculations for this big RC plane. Don’t be afraid if I am using two brushless motors it has nothing to do with the basic RC plane designing. The reason I am using two brushless motors is that my RC plane is made of Balsa wood and it’s a little heavier. You can make the lighter version of the same RC airplane using foam board sheets. This way you can use a single brushless motor.

I can't figure out why none of my rc planes fly. They are all light (made of foam board about 350g with batt), have a 700g of thrust motor (8060 prop), have large control surfaces and wing spans, yet they all take off, fly about 8-12 mph and have no control (rolling or vertical). I can even see the control surfaces working well with my controller during a "flight." Any ideas?????

Question- How does one know what size motor &. Battery will work or what will be too heavy & not fly? Example: Hobby Zone sells a larger Aeroscout S2 1.1 foam plane & a smaller plane with smaller battery & motor. Could I take motor & battery from larger plane & install on smaller plane? Fly longer or faster? I could move battery so CG is good but are there weight limits to certain dimensions?
@ElectroniClinic

This really depends on the motor thrust. You can search on the google motor thrust vs weight.

at 10:27, if the WING does not make an amount of Lift that is equal to the auw, an airframe WON'T fly.!!!!!! this little, unbalanced, glider is HEAVY and its wing makes NO lift. in the case of a zero-lift airfoil, there MUST be, either, positive aoa at the wing mount, or NOSE UP moment, at the HORIZ-STAB. if you think you learned something, at this point, i DON'T KNOW what it would be.

information. at 1:30, that is NOT where cg goes.! FOR ANY WING, the Optimal location of cg is at THIRTY percent of chord.! (or, just a bit forward of thirty.) in the case of a wing that is not constant chord, the reference is 30 percent of mac. mean aerodynamic chord. in your studies, did you happen to see the word DIHEDRAL.!!!! a relatively small amount of dihedral Dramatically increases stability; and makes ailerons Unnecessary.!!! all you boys make Zero-dihedral wings. which REQUIRE Advanced piloting skills.!!!!! you use the term aspect ratio. while that use may be 'correct', the term Normally applies to a main wing. it is correct that ailerons extend to the wingtips. however, the use of Full strip ailerons is NOT recommended. you say the view, at right, is 'normal'. it is NOT clear what you mean, by that.!!!! the view, at left, reflects More correct design.!!! except, for the location of the prop.! suggest you view my design tutorials. at 1:43, part of the rudder should NOT be amputated.!!!!! consequently, you should DISCOVER how to NOT do that.! it should be understood that Almost No model builders know what they are doing. consequently, there is a LOT of MISINFORMATION online, about design.!!!! googletranslate

at 1:50, the chords of the stabs should be equal. the chords of the aft control surfaces Should be EQUAL.!!! in your studies, did you encounter the concept of a LIFT-making Profile.? at 1:58, funny. that Heavy, unbalanced little glider told you NOTHING.! at 2:12, the tail Should be made as LIGHT as Possible.!!!!!! consequently, the Mass of servos does NOT go there.!!!! where a design has as many flaws as this one, Neither should the mass of a tail wheel be there. in order to Avoid excess mass at the tail, the stabs should be JUST big enough, to do the job. consequently, the span of the horiz-stab should Not be greater than, THIRTY percent of the wingspan.! (note that a tail wheel goes at the tail. and, That wheel is NOT at the tail.!!!) it would behoove you to Understand that ALL the mass in an airframe, ADDS UP. in this case, the all-up-weight (auw) of the model is TWICE what it should be.! note that the mass of servos, etc, should NOT be added at the 'top' of the model/fuselage/wing. googletranslate
