[ RC Tip #24 - Servo Setup & Centering - Get that Servo perfectly Centered ]
I was always frustrated by the fact that most of the servos I have purchased always have the control arm Off Center.
No matter how you attach the control arm with the servo in the neutral position the arm is always angled in one direction or another.
So how do you fix this?

My walkera v450d03 servos won’t center despite when I use the subtrims to reverse or not to reverse, they do make a buzzing noise when I try to reverse the servos and I’m not sure if that’s of sign of the servos going bad. The gears don’t sound stripped and I can manually move the servos easily with no problem when I turn the helicopter off. I don’t want to put strain on the servos when it’s on. I have a devo 7, can you help? I also had them slightly centered before this but then I clicked the reset button on the model section and all the servos pushed down on the swashplate except for rudder. The servos worked too before all this happened.

Hum...with a Helicopter I'm not sure you can bypass the gyro input to get your servos centered and stay centered. I would reset the trim, including the sub-trim, and re-calibrate the gyro. Then see how the servos look.

@@fnordrabbit1156 Sorry, I don't know anything about the Walkera V450 D03 Gyro but that information should be in the documentation that came with the Helicopter.

do you know if 8.4V servo can be powered from 9V?

No I don't. Most of my servos are pretty restrictive on the amount of voltage. The specs on the servo should list the range of voltage it can use. I don't have any servos that can use more than 6v.

Thanks again, another useful technique that I needed. Any tips on how to reduce the sloppy connection between a control rod with z end and the servo arm? When the servo arm begins to move, the z end of the rod slides in the arm hole and the control surface doesn't move until the arm moves further.

Replace the Z-Bend with a Plastic Clevis ;-) Hehehe.....I'm not sure I've had that problem as it sounds like your Z-Bend must be pretty wide. Tell you what I would do, use a small section of one of those Aerosol Straws that has an inside diameter the same size, or close, to the diameter of your push rod. Super Glue that to the end of the Z-Bend to hold it tighter to the Servo Arm. I've done crazier things ;-)

@@GroundControlRC That worked! Not perfect, but took a lot of slop out. To your point about using better hardware, I have to start building bigger planes. These little planes (like the dancing wings stick I'm finishing) has little control arms, horns, and holes, so upgrading the push rods is a can of worms. BTW, I found needed information on 4 of your videos during this build. Really appreciate you posting this stuff.👍

@@1mikeb thank you for the kind words Mike and I'm glad it helped. Micro Planes are harder to build and harder to fly IMO. I've found the larger Planes that I have tend to be a bit easier for me to fly and definitely easier to build. See you in the Air!

one drop of CA on the hole with the clevis installed , let it dry and then carry on using your gear. The CA takes up all the slop typically

Doesn't the CA glue the pushrod to the horn or servo arm? Or does it break free?

Brand new OMG servos and they wont center. One direction operation and they will center in the same place, opposite travel and they center off in that new direction. All new all 6 servos are doing it, no play, no binding, no wear. Any ideas much appreciated.

I don't know if they are Digital or Analog? Digital Servos are usually pretty good at hitting their centers but Analog not so much. When you center the Servos, are you applying your center as SubTrim? SubTrim is supposed to reset the Center in the Radio. It could be the Servos are not that good or the Radio is not implementing SubTrim properly. I've had a few Analog Servos that could never hit or maintain their Centers ;-)

@@GroundControlRC Digital servos, OMG are supposed to be some of the best centering servos, or at least I've read as much in reviews. Yes subtrim has been used to center. This has me stumped, never struck it before.

@@torqingheads Hum...could the servos not be getting adequate power? That's the only other thing I can think of. OK, I just thought of one more thing ;-) In the TX is the Servo Refresh Rate set properly? Some refresh at 22ms, some at 11ms, etc.

@@GroundControlRC Good point! It's an electric motor and the servo power is courtesy of the LIPO through a regulator. I'll try an independent 6v nimh. I'm not familiar with Refresh Rate, does Futaba have that? and where in menu?

@@torqingheads I couldn't guess on a Futaba TX but on mine it's in the initial Setup Screen where I set the Protocol. I have a checkbox that sets the refresh at 22ms.

Disconnect the linkage and check the control surfaces and make sure they operate smoothly with little resistance. If that checks out OK then It's a weak or bad servo. I've had quite a few that would not hold or return to their center position.

I always thought when using sub trim to center a servo you lost a percentage of travel on one side and gained on the other?

I know using Normal Trim you lose travel on one side. SubTrim is supposed to reset the center so you maintain the same amount of movement on each side. I'm sure it depends on how much SubTrim you have to use.

This does not apply when using a FBL control system.

Agora isso seria possível ;-) Eu posso fazer um vídeo de como fazer isso no futuro, mas primeiro eu quero fazer um Trainer Plane que tenha um receptor com um giroscópio de 3 eixos. Eu tenho alguns receptores assim e vou instalar um no nosso F-22 Mini V2 "Glue & Fly Series" e ver como isso funciona. Eu uso Quadcopter Motors e ESCs em meus aviões atualmente eu apenas não usei um controlador de vôo Quadcopter em um ainda. Vejo você no ar!
