I bought my second Summit press recently. It is a joy for seating bullets, and it's design makes it very suitable for a portable press since it doesn't need to be as anchored down as standard presses do. It is a heavy and smooth-operating press. I have arbor die conversion so chamber types of dies can be used. I have found that the Rock Chuck Supreme provides slightly more consistent shoulder bump so I tend to size brass on it and do other operations like seating bullets on the Summit. This is of course when not loading volume on the progressive. I definitely agree about the short handle unless sizing burlier cases. Good news is that the handles swap so easily. Check out the primer catch upgrade from Entirely Crimson. Nice aluminum retrofit. Drops spent primers down a tube to the trash or collection vessel of your choice.

I use an original Rock Chucker to resize/bump-shoulders and my Summit for seating also. The ram is larger than most all presses. I was resizing some 6.5 Creedmoor brass into 8.6 blackout and broke the handle. My press is 10+ years old, and I bought it used. RCBS rep sent me out a new handle, no questions. I had them replace a die for me once also. They get $110 for the commemorative model..I guess they're pretty proud of it.

Been using a Summit for quits awhile now with no problems at all, I have one of the first addition red white and blue ones. I use it to expand and seat mostly, I have a couple of Rock Chuckers for the heavy work of sizing and decapping.

I have been using a Summit press for about 8 years now exclusively for sizing cast bullets. It has great leverage and a short throw. Attached a tube to the top of the sizing die that collects the sized bullets and dispenses them in a 1 gal container

John, another great video! I have had my summit press for about a year and use it mostly for bullet tipping. Takes up very little room on my bench. I bought my Trijacon tenmils because of your reviews. Very pleased with it. Keep the good work coming. Thank You

I like the press so much I bought a second one soon after the first one. Like the fact that it can be mounted anywhere on the bench I can use it anywhere in the house too

Thanks for the review John very nice, NO ELI you can't go get another Summit for just the colors lol. I have one that has many rounds and hours on it purchased it 9 years ago and it is still going strong. I reserve this press for the big rounds 30-06, 300PRC it just seems so much smoother.

They make an arbor press kit for it too John. It'd make for a travel press setup.

This press for whatever reason produces very low neck runout when sizing. I believe it was Gavin who showed this in his comparison video 2-3 years ago, and when I bought a Summit, I confirmed the sizing neck runout was lower than both my coax and (much lower than!) my old rock chucker II. Of course 0.5-1.0 less runout is not solely a reason to buy it, but it adds to the entire package.

I have one of the Limited edition red white and blue Summits from 10 years ago. Great press. I have had zero probs. It does seem odd that they would ship it with the short handle though. I do all my rifle, and revolver ammo on the Summit. For the higher volume IDPA ammo, I have a couple of Dillon's set up for .45 and 9mm

small handles are great. I had my gunsmith cut my Hornady Iron Press handle in half and have no problem at all with either sizing or seating.

Basically they installed a shoulder bolt versus a non-shouldered bolt. Easy fix to prevent pinching the lugs together on the camming mechanism. I may have to get one of these things.

I have need for a press that can be flat mounted with no overhang. This pretty much narrows the options to the Frankford Arsenal M-Press and the RCBS Summit. I noticed you have hands on experience with both of these presses. I'm looking primarily to load precision rifle ammo along with some straight wall revolver cartridges. If you had to pick between the two which would you recommend?

One thing I don’t get about some of the reloading presses. For large cast iron presses, I understand most of the casting not being done in the USA. We don’t have the companies here to do it anymore. Although, most of these presses could be made out of hardened steel on cnc machines. I just don’t get why cast iron is still used. Especially on a small press like this one. That being said…I do like that press lol

My one handle Broke at the Threads in Toggle, Got the nub out with a center punch, Contacted RCBS they sent me a New handle and a Upper toggle replacement kit N/C Been using it with a Wilson inline Bullet Seater,. Got the Arbor Press conversion kit, but only using the Upper part. To used the base part you need to remove the Press from the Bench and remove age Shell holder Support Ram.

I use my RCBS rock chucker while seated… mounted direct to bench it is quite a low throw. The summit handle looks high enough to be an uncomfortable high reach while seated but not high enough to be comfortable while standing? The short lever would be better when operating from seated position I think?
@Iscariot184 ай бұрын
Short handle works from any position, the long handle you would want to be standing up.

Looking to get into reloading. My top 2 picks are the summit and the forster co ax. And a newb who makes decent money which one should i go with? Or any other press? I only plan on reloading a few cartridges. Any one is welcome to chime in
@FClassJohn7 ай бұрын
Between those two, I would honestly get the Forster coax, but you should also look at the short action custom Nexxus. It’s a little bit more money, but it’s like the Forster coax on steroids.

although a toggle has broke on one of mine , thats a good press, the toggle seems to be the weak point, the bolt has nothing to do with it
@mitchbertone380911 ай бұрын
I had issues with the toggle misalignment, I installed a stainless steel pin kit off ebay that solved the problem, the individual bolt design has the bolt threads eating up the toggle. RCBS replaced the toggle for free, and later the long handle threads snapped clean off, they also replaced that. I use my Summit now for de-priming and bullet seating, as the short handle gives lots of control and feel. All other functions are performed on a RCBS Rebel.
@Iscariot1811 ай бұрын
Colors look so much better than RCBS (~60's era) green. I use mine for everything but sizing and depriming. Sizing force is too high for my tastes even with the long lever, use the Co-ax for that. Depriming is too abrupt and clunky. Great for expander mandrel and bullet seating, and can make do for Wilson hand seating dies. Very fun to use.

Do you think with the regular version on sale right now for $260? It’s worth the extra hundred dollars for the small improvements they made.
@FClassJohn11 ай бұрын
Yeah for that price range it's pretty tough to pass up. I'm guessing you could call RCBS and get the new bolts and go from there. They have great customer service so either way if you have a problem it's likely they'll fix or replace it.
@LukaTWP9 ай бұрын
@@FClassJohn I spoke to RCBS enquiring about the fixes they had made and whether they had been applied to all Summit presses. They confirmed that was the case. I believe that the Summit Camo version includes the plate as well. I was actually looking at the press fom myself. It would be my first press to reload 9mm Luger. I don't have the space and budget for a progressive one. I suppose a turrent might be better for me, but I really like the small footprint and the design of it. However, I am concerned about the past breakages, as I'd like it to last a good 20 years. I'm based in Rome, Italy, so the final price here would be around €400, VAT included. It would probably be a little cheaper if I had it shipped from precision reloading US. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards
