That slop is engineered in - it allows the easy engagement between high and low I the transmission - I had same thoughts when I first got mine.

Hey Buddy. That's a pretty fair review. There's always a little slop between the tires and the spurgear. There's 6 to 8 gears between the motor gear and the ring & pinion. But then again you got it used. I bought mine 2 years ago. I swapped to Punisher Shafts immediately. But running brushless(Novak goat system), I'm surprised the ring & pinion lasted as long as it did. I replaced the rear with the curved gears that came out last year and I drive mine pretty hard. And I agree with you on the leaf-springs. That's the whole reason for driving this truck is the leafs. I run Rc4wd reds in the back with a stock leaf , with a short leaf in the front. With a lexan body and a better skid plate for the transfer-case I think it would just about run with an scx10.

Had same problem with my Gelande 2 D90, only it was in the rear axle. Had to get new gears and shims in there... Don't worry about the movement on the spur, my TF2 is the same way. But I don't mind it. Maybe you should try a Tamiya front cab.

the slip in the drive line at least in a real truck, is the pinion is to far away from the ring gear. is it adjustable in a scale diff?

Nice vid, I have the trail stomper from RC4WD and all in all its not best trail truck out there but it sure is fun and u have to work a little harder and smarter to get around some things. I might get a 2nd RC from them, The SCT looks cool

Yeah compared to the Axial scx10 it's terrible as a trail truck, but it's still really realistic and fun just the same.

Would you be open to doing a review and capabilty comparison between the stock leaf spring rear suspension and the available 4 link rear suspension upgrade for this truck? Thank you..
@Lifeofanrcaddict10 жыл бұрын
I know they make them. Never really considered doing the 4 link since I enjoy the leafs, but perhaps. I do know someone who's running the 4 link on one. My scx10 still out performs the 4 linked tf2.

Best comparison is always with the same driver.. maybe you are out performing him!? Anyway, I'm looking to get back into RC, I'm just not sure what I want to build at the moment. I do like this truck though.. As far as how long it has been since I have been in RC I was a teenager and had bought a new RS4 Pro 2 Chassis LOL. Still have it and it actually still looks new.. I want to build something with a purpose this time around though and meet new people..

drvn1 then personally I'd go with an scx10 kit. It's a little less frustrating to drive then this is. Haha. And I love the comps and trail runs or local club has. So much fun hanging out with others.

My friend JR got one this summer and the body was Red. His didn't come 2spd, it was only single and it was a RTR version. And I saw on the site were some of the other similar trucks come in blue so that's what led me to say that.

whats better in stock form for an entry level scaler? the vaterra ascender or this??
@coasmechteranic9 жыл бұрын
I think that's an "apples to oranges" comparison. The ascender will perform better out if the box, but the TF2 has got (maybe) better scale realism. And leaf springs are cool, too. I built, and treat, my ascender like a scale rig, but it still needs inner fenders, interior, ETC, to get it to the same level of "realism" the TF2 has. -my opinion

You can maybe fit on a Tamiya F350 body. It is a hard body. Maybe even a Tamiya Toyota Tundra body will fit.
@Lifeofanrcaddict11 жыл бұрын
Tamiya bodies are small. They are more like 1/12 scale then 1/10. I have one and I'm just not pleased with the size. It would be nice if more companies would make more hard bodies. I think they'd sell.

I wondered about those. Do you have to change knuckles or anything? On the drift cars and the axials, you have to change knuckles and cvds to get better steering.

I’ve owned my main TF2 for about 4 years, performed a bunch of common mods....helical diff gears, steel driveshafts, chino’d leafs, and flanged ball bearing c-hub mod....I’ve trailed and crawled it regularly, and maintain it as needed. It has been a KILLER trail rig. It’ll do literally everything my SCX10s could do (sold all of my Axial stuff), and looks better doing it. Only thing my Axial buddies can do that I can’t....launch their rigs off of waterfalls. Lol. But then again, why? Would you do that in your 1:1?? I’m guessing NOT.
@algonquincrawlers728310 жыл бұрын
Dude I had the same problem with the front diff and I think they are just a bad design you should not need to shim from the start I broke mine 10 minutes into the first run after replacing the driveshafts that we're junk as well
@Lifeofanrcaddict10 жыл бұрын
my stock drive shafts held up pretty well. The diff has been fine since I put the new gears in and shimmed it correctly. It was not properly shimmed before. many vehicles I have owned over the year required shimming. I used to run Losi comp crawlers and they required proper shimming as well. I've been running mine in comps and trail runs with no issues. I did upgrade to the metal driveshafts because I did finally pop a plastic one.
@madpower96408 жыл бұрын
what you mean by shimming? please tx...never minde just got it...using half of the theets surelly will wear fast cause is doing all the strenght in only half tx anyway

VERY disappointed with this truck. The scale looks are awesome, and it looks really good running, until something breaks or needs tweaked. For a $400 kit, there is way too much tweaking that needs to be done, all preassembled parts have to be taken apart to either flip the shims, or to put grease in where it should already be. Most exterior items will be broken off in the first couple of packs, even with be very careful. The body was a nightmare to put together, none of the parts are made quite right, and a lot hand-fitting was required to get them together and to looks right. When running, something is always going out of alignment, requiring a tweak here, or there. A lot of these quarks would be tolerable if this kit was half the price, but for $400, it is good-looking frustration.

Not the previous owners shim issue, these are factory farts...the drive lines on these trucks are junk, unfortunately. Ask any owner, just in stock form, from axles to driveshafts, they twist, grind , snap and zing apart quite quickly. Rc4wd should have test driven their product for at least one battery pack before releasing it. Goes to show, box art sells...
@reddsshaker34776 жыл бұрын
I upgraded my diff gears to the helicals, and driveshafts to steel. Been running it hard for about 4 years now. It’s my main trail rig, and I disassemble and grease everything at least once a year. I’ve gone through some leafs over the years, and I’ve performed a flanged ball bearing mod on my aluminum Yota axle c-hubs. Slop is GONE. Yes, a plastic SCX10 will take more of a beating, but they’re toy-like. I’ve had my share and I grew bored with them quickly. I’ll take the scale realism of the RC4WD rigs over a plastic rig anyday. I drive my rigs just as I would a 1:1, and my 6 RC4WD rigs hold up extremely well. Then again, I don’t “drive them off of a waterfall”. ??!! ...would you do that in your 1:1??
