The whole concept of "paying with time" is already here in the form of free to play games - terrifying concept, especially when mobile games are targeting children. Plus all the "can't see products from rival companies once you're in our ecosystem" - unbelievable there haven't been more programmes exploring these idea's - whether for humour or for a more serious look at a future ruled by mega-corps.

I think this my second favorite episode of the whole series. The satire is spot-on, dark, but still funny. Humankind didn't went out of business, because of war or environmental catastrophes, but because nobody couldn't afford to live anymore. It's still satire, but that's how it will end with corporations, if you just let them. Good stuff. And then no RD for quite a while *sniff.*

It's true. American Chocolate is awful. Though in it's defense many countries have different chocolate tastes that are acquired by it's population making switching to chocolate from another country to be... an experience. The UK for example use more vegetable oil in their chocolate. The US on the other hand use more Butyric acid that that is responsible for the stench of vomit which is the reason why a UK based show and it's producer's tend to make fun of US chocolate. The US have gotten used to it, whereas the UK wince slightly at the mere mention of Hershey's and the odor of their Butyric acid products.

When I saw Dave as an old man in the season teaser (relating to this episode) I thought they might address the old Lister from Future echoes. Like Lister wasn't really 171, but was aged up somehow and eventually changed back. But in the time he was old did the bit from Future Echoes. When all the call backs started happening in the episode I though "They're going for it! They're going for it!" and they didn't do it. Damn!

The plot is abit heavy on the commentary. and in a way i feel like the story might have got abit lost in the commentary. i never quite understood how these M-Corp items got on Red Dwarf. they just randomly appear? were they always there but were invisible? were they transported or materialized created? there is usually an in-universe science for this stuff but this time i guess the writer just left it out. One other aspect i think should have been avoided is saying Earth was taken over by M-Corp. You probably can guess earth just had their own Skynet based fate.

Great video. I thought this episode had a lot in common with "Fathers and Suns." In both episodes Lister's life is endangered by an AI that communicates through a female avatar and takes its function to dangerous extremes, and in both episodes said AI is defeated by using its function against it.
