In the "Home" section, John tells Uncle that Winter is coming, so it most likely takes place in October/November, which would mean the rest of the RDR1 story takes place in August or something, which would be Summer, just like the RDR2 Epilogue.

He sarcastically says to Uncle "We have no money and we might not even make it through the Winter. What could we possibly want with some high quality horses?" Now, considering it’s not snowing anywhere in West-Elizabeth aside from in some parts of Tall Trees, I doubt they’re already in the Winter. They’re most likely a few weeks before the Winter. Now I don’t know about West-Elizabeth, but where I live, it starts snowing in November, more specifically the middle of November. So then, the "Home" section of RDR1 would most likely take place in early November or something. Alternatively, it could also take place in late October, because of Undead Nightmare. It’d sort of make sense for Undead Nightmare to take place around Halloween time, and Undead Nightmare takes place a little before the end of the game.

That's the wrong spot! You can reach the correct spot. It's just on the other side of that rock and just at the very edge of the playable map. You can't see anything that resembles a cave but the general shape of the mountains and valley are the same. Look at the RDR1 map, you can see where exactly the cave exit is!

Pretty much a lot of the land in New Austin is completely new landscape and geography because rockstar didn't have enough time to copy from the old game, so they randomly generated terrain similar to which is in the first game but not exactly the same. You can tell it was done in a rush because of how many square rocks there are.

They removed the snow because rockstar didn't want 2 snowy places, which is a stuoid reason because having 2 snowy paces easliy gives more variety. They just didn't care too much about the rest of rdr1 map because they focused on the new areas.

It makes the whole thing of letting him go home to his family only to send a large group of bounty hunters and agents even sillier. John was right there and disarmed. It would have been no problem to just kill him then and then just put that John and Dutch killed each other in the fight and no one else of authority would have really cared. Instead he lets John back home, acts like everythings fine, and then sends a small army to shoot up the ranch, which is going to draw a lot more attention and be harder to explain. "Oh yeah this former outlaw who was living peacefully for a few years, did everything we asked, and then went back home to live peacefully. He was still a loose end so we sent a small army out to his ranch. He took quite a few people with him but we got him in the end."
