Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods on the East Coast of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. I was so pleased to see the care in which you took to attach the solar panels to the roof of your van! There was an accident a few weeks ago here in Tasmania where a caravan(camping trailer) had its solar panels fly off its roof and smashed in to the following car and killed 3 people! So everyone one out there building your own solar system.... make sure you attach your panels so they don’t fly off and cause some one to lose their life! Look forward to seeing the rest of your rebuild! Go team!

I wish you luck using this tablesaw. You need it. The rip fence has been removed. Its job is to prevent the upwards rotating teeth of the saw disc to catch onto the workpiece and throw it or splinters upward, towards you. Stay safe! Great job with the electrical system. Nice clean job!

I've been doing electrical & electronic work for 50+ years and your build is spot on! The only thing I might suggest is building a shield out of plexiglass or other non-conductive material to cover your positive bus in case something conductive gets dropped in that area. For future reference, the table saw is probably the most dangerous tool one can use on a build. Having instruction on how to properly use a table saw can avoid injuries. I have a friend who almost lost a finger and his career as a police officer after an encounter with a table saw...

I have to admit I groaned when I saw "another" van build (tis the season), but I snapped out of it quickly when I realized it was time for a visit from Bella, Izzy, Jazzy and Crystal. Technical question: Isn't there heat build-up where the equipment & batteries are located inside the new bench? Is it vented?

The inverter is the only component with active cooling. It's a good idea to let power related electronic components breath but since they will not be running the inverter all the time (I assume), it's less of an issue.

Another couple I watch on You Tube just had their electrical redone by a qualified person and they found out there could have been a fire in the area he worked on...showed the melted area . Please have a person experienced evaluate your work. Just a word of warning. I told this couple the same thing. He had no experience..it was total diy with Dad call's here and there.

Looks like a very clean professional install. My only question would be how 300 watts of solar panels will keep 400 amp/hrs of batteries charged, particularly in Canada where the sun isn't always the best. Do you plan on adding an on board battery charger for backup?

Good question Dave...and yes, pretty proud of them figuring all the electrical/carpentry out and getting the job done...with a great design too! I would think a charging line from the alternator perhaps would be a slick solution (checked on a previous video, yes they have a charging line) BUT, with the type batteries they have now...(Lithium) you need to have an interface box to limit charging (I believe) otherwise the alternator would get overdrawn on amperage and burn up. Jazmyn, Crystal, Dave has me curious now...is there a charging line from the van? And did you need to use some kind of Interface box? Still hoping to add solar to my RV next year, so thanks as always for the inspiration! Paws up! :)

@@blackdog850 the batteries have their own BMS inside them, so they look like a normal battery on the outside, but inside you have the circuit board doing the current limiting, cell management etc. so you can just throw power at them like a regular dumb lead acid. I think that Victron also has an output to charge the starter battery so it can’t get run down.

It looked like you were using the table saw the wrong way round, which I guess is easy without the rip fence in place and blade guard fitting. Great video 👍🏻

You girls are AMAZING! I watch your videos with a smile the entire way through and with an occasional LOL - like when Jazz popped out of the bench. Great story telling. Super positive attitudes and fearlessness. You would be astounded to learn how much I'm paying someone else to do build-out my van, to do what you have done and are now improving. I have tremendous admiration for you both and more than a small amount of jealousy. Looking forward to open borders so my wife and I can discover mountains and waterfalls in Canada too!

Wow ladies! just wow, I am currently doing a build myself but I had help with the solar system. I am now doing the ceiling floor and walls, I have to say that's a lot of work.
