That smell is sulphur mate. Its a by-product of the decomposition of organic matter. It hasn't been able to escape to the atmosphere because the soil pore spaces are filled with water or compacted badly. Sulphur build up is really toxic to plant roots and will kill them. It also causes black layer. Best core the hell out of that area as often as possible until that smelly soil disappear. And leave the core holes open. Don't backfill with topdressing. That coring machine is excellent and did a grear job. Another great video mate. Really enjoyed it.

I know you explained well why you want to keep the soil profile on your place, but would clearing the plugs and refilling the holes with a Sandy Loam or other soil help alleviate the anaerobic problem. I've been learning a lot from your vids mate and before now I didn't know that a lawn could even turn anaerobic, I knew a compost pile could.
@thegreenandgoldlife14643 жыл бұрын
Cheers man. That soil from the core is mostly sandy loam with a little clay. That's why I rubbed it back in. It defs needs time to aerate and dry out. It's Dec and I still haven't switched on the sprinklers 😯

@@anthonyb8208 I’m in the same town as old mate and the last couple of years were really dry and warm , remember 2019/20 bushfires in Australia. This year has been very mild so far with regular rain. I’m in the garden business and it’s been super busy plus the money being pumped into the economy is also helping too. The average temperatures are starting to climb.
