Dima combines neuroscience and self-care. She looks at how the science we have can impact our well being and improve the way we see ourselves. Dima is a 2017 graduate from UNBSJ with a major in psychology and minor in cognitive neuroscience. She has a goal of becoming a counseling therapist as mental health is an area she is very passionate about. Dima is excited to share her thoughts and ideas on burnout, importance of self-care, and more importantly the role neuroscience plays in self-care. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

love love yourself and take care of you. As a repeat caregiver for family members and loved ones. I know first hand if you do not take care of yourself you cannot take care of others. To everyone out there- TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST.

This is a great talk! I think the topic of self care can be vast, therefore, only we can find out what works for us by practicing it ourselves. I love this approach over a strict to-do list from experts. It just doesn't work, atleast for me.

I think one of the greatest self cares is putting yourself in a position and taking action to where you can make a difference in other peoples lives.

Self care = Self LOVE, and Self love is the key that unlocks our infinite potential. I launched my channel with an Interview about this exact topic, how to love yourself no matter what. I don't think my guest, an amazing Life Coach could have chose a better subject. It's amazing how just by learning to love yourself everything around you changes. PRACTICE SELF LOVE DAILY! DO IT FOR YOU! BECAUSE YOU MATTER! BECAUSE YOU'RE WORTHY! BECAUSE YOU CAN!

I want to stop certain habits. Why does the brain just switch off some things. I became a vegan in one day. Stopped smoking in one day. Why can’t I do this for other bad habits?

I found it helpful to read Better than Before by Gretchen Rubin. I didn’t relate to her as a person, but I found a lot of what she said very useful. Forming habits depends on multiple things, like your personality, values etc. For example, I have quite a rebellious personality so I hate being told what to do - even if that’s me telling myself to go to the gym after work three times a week. Now I understand that, I give myself more choices - gym, walk, dance, clearing the garden - and that works much better for me. Maybe becoming a vegan and stopping smoking are easily in tune with your values but other habits are harder because they’re not. There are other factors too. I don’t know if it would help you, but that book was a game changer for me.

rewatch. she gave examples. for her husband candles and a bubble bath works. it doesn’t work for her either. but when you find out what does work, you will “build resilience” etc. ❤
