Get your air up here: airup.link/40Q7Dvx use code ACTMAN15 for 15% off all orders! #airup #airuppartner The Halo TV series has been universally hated by Halo fans. It's like the showrunners specifically wanted to avoid staying true to the source material. Like they didn't want to make the show for Halo fans. But what if the show was made for Halo fans? What if we re-wrote the Halo TV series to be actually good? Well, only one way to find out...

I genuinely don't know how Msoft fumbled their flagship series being turned into a TV Show. It feels like Msoft doesn't care about the series AT ALL and only sees it as an income source. All Halo is to them is a hollow product that produces money. Such a shame that corporate structures are ruled by people in suits that only see dollar signs.

@@csnorth7that's exactly how they see it unfortunately halo isn't the same copy and paste trash that can be made into 50 different games and resold with different names and skins. Halo always has been and always will be unique. It's a product made by true effort and restrictions that kept it from becoming a hollow piece of trash for a "wider audience". They don't treat a single peice of this game like trash. Not the story, not the characters and above all not the audience. They share something they love. They don't force something they demand you to accept. It's like a healthy relationship. You don't keep coming back because you have to. You do it because no matter the difficulties it will always give you back everything you put into it and sometimes so much more. It gives you a reason to come back. It doesn't try to force you to accept it. It lets you love and hate everything about it.

I've always wanted a "band of brothers" style of series. Starting with interviews from the "veterans" of the Human-Covenant War. Giving context to those who don't know halo and hinting to future events for those that do. Following a platoon or company sized element that moved from battle to battle, especially on reach or the lead up to the battle of the arc.
@sorrenblitz805
@sorrenblitz805 Жыл бұрын
They kind of did that with covenant aliens for the ad material for Master Chief Collection they had an interview with a grunt that apparently "Survived every battle the Master Chief fought in"
@Duskraven67
@Duskraven67 Жыл бұрын
@sorrenblitz805 Well, the "believe" ad campaign was essentially that, too. They made a mock museum and had older actors play veterans retelling the story of the war and the master chief. But I'm not looking for a 1 - 3 episode ad campaign. I specifically wanted a full series 1 - 3 seasons (10 - 24 episodes per season) long following a unit of UNSC marines/army troopers. Having very little direct involvement with the Spartans and just focusing on the war itself.
@DugasPharmacy
@DugasPharmacy 11 ай бұрын
That would have been awesome! The hard part would be trying to write how one platoon survived all the major battles like Reach and New Mombasa. Maybe writing them as ODST so one could say they were highly trained and not just cannon fodder marines. And ODST would pay homage to 101st airborne from Band of Brothers. Very cool idea, if only they cared enough to service the fans.
@Duskraven67
@Duskraven67 11 ай бұрын
@DugasPharmacy you could have it start on reach. The lead up and training of the marines, tip of the spear, and then have them get pulled out sometime around new Alexandria in the mid-season. Then we switch to earth and the defense of new Mombasa. We know that Buck had a similar trajectory, so it wouldn't be far-fetched to say that other units did as well. And just like band of brothers, we would start with a whole company of guys, but it would be quickly whittled down to a handful of familiar faces by the end. The rest being replacements that we acknowledge but don't give a significant amount of time to.

14:30, you say follow almost exactly the events of the Silent Cartographer level, does that include getting the warthog stuck in the doors that lock on you forcing a detour to open them? Or perhaps this is a moment to incorporate that fan strategy by having Cortana say something like "Wait Chief! The Covenant have rigged the doors to lock if we approach, I can undo it but we'll need to bypass at a nearby- What are you doing" "Improvising." And Chief guns the warthog in barely getting the front end through the doors as the back half is caught and wedged in, climbing out he proceeds with the mission, maybe even tearing the turret off the Warthog and bringing it along. Just a thought.

I think the beginning of the Guilty Spark episode should be shown from Jenkins' point of view to allow the viewer to empathize with him as a combat form, similar to how it was in the book. Everything up until them entering the room is shown through his eyes: them entering the facility, finding the dead elite, and them prepping to open the door. It cuts right before they open the door and we open to another shot of Chief touching down. Then everything continues as usual

Because the dramatic demands and production logistics of a television series are extremely different from a video game. One of the absolute biggest problem is the sheer amount of action sequences that would be necessary. Action sequences are extremely difficult and expensive to film. For example, the longest battle in any motion picture ever made is 40 minutes long, the battleof Helms Deep, that’s 40 minutes of action over the course of a 3 1/2 hour movie. And all that put together would not be enough to fill up one episode of the Halo show if it just remade CE. Further complicating things is the fact Halo is science fiction. There are some movies that are basically nonstop action such as “The Best in Hell”, but that movie was made by a private military company with a lot of current stocks of equipment on hand, so it was quite cheap; it’s not like having to craft costumes and armors for all your characters and having to create visual effects for plasma, weapons, having to create convincing, alien environments, and all kinds of prop guns, and so on. AM and co are just being stupid.

And on realizing the odst took over a covenant ship that was infected by the flood and going to take it to earth, effectively leading the flood to earth on a silver plate, he attacks the flood mind and takes momentary control of his infected body. He then attacks a marine, takes their grenade, pulls the pins and jumps with it into the fusion core thing of the ship, killing himself and blowing up the ship, preventing the flood from reaching earth before halo 3. Johnson meeting Chief in the Guilty Spark facility and Chief being the one to hype him up to escape works way too well. That’s such a perfect way to address A. that Johnson is still alive, which is weird in the games but in fairness he wasn’t a cinematic character yet in CE, and B. it’s a great role reversal that totally makes sense in context, and even kinda builds towards later when Cortana doesn’t know what to do and Chief comes in with the plan like the game.

Watching this shortly after watching your review of the Halo Infinite campaign just emphasizes how the recent productions don't really fully understand what makes the IP interesting. It's not just a story about the Chief. It's about how the Chief fits into the larger narrative of the military conflict, the rings, and all of the other characters we have become attached to. It's not about one special person beast-moding his way through hordes of villains like doomguy. While the chief is special, he's just the player's vehicle for experiencing the world.

I took a screenwriting course recently and filmmaking is going to be what I use my university degree for. This…this is how you do a great screenplay. Showing Chief’s emotions in creative ways without showing his face, using the concept of Chekhov’s Gun with Melissa, the camerawork and effort put into hiding Chief’s face, adding scenes for more context such as Keyes being captured and the workings of the Covenant, and so much more. All of it is amazing. If I were to give any critiques, I would say that the language of the Covenant needs to be mostly consistent. Use the games as an example for this. I would say it could be confusing to have them speak their native language and also English at times and and also their native language with subtitles at times. I’d say keep English and native language and swap between them only as necessary. But again, this was amazing to see.

One episode of a pair can be the name of whatever character is being followed, the other can be the name of the in game mission. We already experienced MC’s perspective, flush out the stuff that happened to other characters and their experience of hearing updates of the overall situation and struggling to figure out what they can do and finding the courage to get it done. As a joke, you can make it everyone’s side quest to get a glimpse of MC. They can lightheartedly have a pool going of who gets to see his face first.

Hey Actman, Screenwriter, and Actor here. I think you made some really great points in this video. I think creating a dynamic Master Chief that works within this story would be very challenging. I Think one of the biggest characters that we could look to is the Mandalorian. Chiefs body language would be 80% of his dialogue. Cortana would carry most conversations, and planning, because she is literally an AI created to help aid in battle. When Chief get's left alone on guilty spark it would make it all the more terrifying to not cortana chatting it up. I'm curious to hear others thoughts on this?

This is exactly what I was thinking. Not having Cortana anymore chatting to Master Chief would be so eerie in a show format. I know it was when I was playing the game. @greaterfool1176
@greaterfool1176 Жыл бұрын
@John Smith I respect your opinion and don't get me wrong I love the lore and the story as is. I'm just saying what we saw and the challenges I think are there are the results of the realities of building a broader audience. I think citing 15-45 mins of game screen time also shows the vulnerability with using 343 or Bungie, neither of those companies created cinimatics that could be just folded together to make a show. You are right that Chief is a compelling character. But if you are like me, that is almost exclusively built on the expanded lore (books). In addition, how many of those connecting traits are built on his internal monolog? The issue with doing CEvolve is that we move past his origin story on Reach and his raw emotion especially after losing Sam on the ship. At a minimum a Blue Team story would be better simply because Fred and Kelly are way more human and relatable. Otherwise if we insist on a CE story it needs to be flashback heavy. How about we do an exerice and describe a show that exists that does what you want Halo to do. I'll throw out my comparables first. Band of Brothers (Combat/ Unit dynamic) , Last of Us (Ellie and Joel = relationship development John Chief Cortana softening Cheif as he slowly cracks and faces both emotional and ethical dillemas) and Lone Survivor (some aspects of a single man struggling to get back) . These shows don't have nearly as much combat as The Act Man is setting up and have way more dialog something we'd need to figure out especially the single man scenes. I think if we pick something to launch with we might have a better point to jump in and discuss. My last concessionto you is that you are likely right that Paramount+ taking the project was the nail in the coffin. They were likely looking for an IP that they could use to tendril in a full audience to their platform. In the pursuit of "more people" they likely made changes to the content which sunk the project. BUT, that being said a significant amount of this is on Microsoft for not making a condition of the project that they had oversight and final cut. Reply

One little idea I had for an episode adapted from _343 Guilty Spark_ (which personally I'd title as _Well Enough Alone)_ would be that Chief finds a lone Grunt deep in the facility. Unlike the game, here, all the Covenant he finds inside are dead, except for this one Grunt. The Grunt is cowering, hiding, crying with sheer fright, and when he sees Chief, he runs over to him, but Chief doesn't fire - the Grunt doesn't have his weapon raised. The Grunt runs to Chief's side, getting behind him, almost like a scared child running to their parent, and points his plasma pistol out front, away from them both. Chief can hear a rattling sound, and he looks down: it's the Grunt's plasma pistol clattering as it trembles in his unsteady hand. The Grunt's eyes are wide with terror. We've spent all the time up until now seeing how scared Grunts are of fighting Spartans in combat, but now, _something_ has terrified the Covenant so deeply, that this Grunt actually feels safe with Chief. I think the idea of Chief being visibly shaken at his sight of the flood is a great idea, no "Game over man!" Type stuff but I think if this is the first time we hear chief gasp for breath in between bouts of heavy gunfire and flood swarms would be a chilling divergence from his usual stoic attitude to Alien monsters, maybe even perhaps we see the soldier who unalived himself later infected by a flood spore, so many possibilities
@Epicflipflops
@Epicflipflops Жыл бұрын
The thing is there is a book that details all of this. They could literally just translate the book ‘the flood’ into TV format. It’s absolutely stupid how they went about this. Zero excuse for shows like halo to be so garbage. There’s so much good alternative media to draw from it’s almost impressive how bad they fucked this up.

27:50 Better idea: We see the Chief's eyes (like in Halo 4) at the end of Season 1, to tease people with his face, but also give them a look into a pair of harrowed, sadness-laden eyes, that close and slowly reopen to show pure, unadulterated determination as we get the line "No. I think we're just getting started." Because, part two of my idea: We only get a look at John's face when he pulls off his helmet to deliver the news of Foe-Hammer's death to Sgt Johnson. Because this is the moment we see Master Chief's humanity on full display. Johnson made it off of Halo with a handful of Marines, maybe an ODST or two. But John-117, the _Legendary Super Spartan,_ escaped alone. Like, the Chief is all but begging Johnson to punch him in the face for failing to save anyone but himself, and while the Sergeant gets angry, gets sad, runs a full gamut of emotions, when he actually reaches out to John it's to press their foreheads together. Because they're brothers in all but blood, and while Johnson will need time to grieve, he won't hate his brother. He won't _hurt_ his brother for _surviving._ As the moment comes to an end and Johnson wipes his tears away, he comments on John's terrible helmet hair (despite being a crew or buzz cut) being bad for the cameras, before helping him put the helmet back on. Cortana can then test the waters by teasing the two, with Johnson firing back a weak, but still witty retort as if to say that things _will_ be fine.

The only real thing I'd add here is to make the whole thing animated. You'd really need a HUGE budget to have a show like this look consistently good in live action. It would be more believable to just have it all animated.

@@thealmightysslaveexecutor2166 Certainly. Think of the best war / combat shows Band of Brothers Pacific. Those things did not do even half their episodes of peer shooting, plus handled morality and a ton of other issues. @@iancrowley420 Ah that's just it though, there have been good shows out lately. I should've said that it makes it hard to side with the writer when series that many love and enjoy get stuff like this shoe horned writing. The shows that I've seen that are good recently have built up their own existence and worlds to hit a targeted audience to earn that audiences respect and attention. Paramount's defense for this crappy writing is broader market appeal, which is like flipping the bird at the large dedicated audience you already have and combined with under whelming writing experience is a show that people only watch specifically for the dedicated action scenes now. I do give you a like for showing the error in my first response thanks.

It should’ve started in three time periods that you switch between constantly. 1. The initial waking up of the children that become Spartans. 2. Avery Johnson arriving at Harvest. 3. A Spartan Team fighting against the Covenant until finally suiciding themselves. Second Episode 1. John navigating his childhood of training - some of the Spartans that died last episode being encountered as children. 2. Avery Johnson and others realise there’s alien contact. 3. Another piece of Spartans - maybe Grey Team doing something and surviving. 3rd 1. John and Co. embark for their armor and start fitting out into them. 2. First Contact goes hostile. 3. The Spartans assemble for the first time in their armor as alarms blare as the Covenant arrive. This makes things more open ended and valuable commercially with multiple Spartan teams to sell as toys and so on

Idea for pilot episode opening: Panoramic shot of Halsey explaining to 6 year old John what a quarter is; coin toss scene happens with young LT Keyes in the background. Cut to John waking up from the cryo dream to witness the high octane slaughter as he makes his way to the bridge to the current CPT Keyes. (Quick jump cuts to increase stress/tension) Title screen. Then flash to the hours previous to give context for the random slipspace jump. This would set up depth of Keyes in the story, and allude to flashbacks at key times throughout series.

I still find it so crazy that disney made a massively successful first season of a show where the main character's face wasn't shown (apart from once) and that still wasn't enough to make Paramount confident with the idea. And keep in mind Mando was a new character, next to chief who has existed for decades and even to non-halo fans is known as the guy who never shows his face.
