If you read this I'll be very pleased, kind of proud of this lmao. Loving the video so far! I think Rem's Subaru obsession is misunderstood, but am not a Rem stan at all. The side stories I read for memory snow ova made clear that Subaru looked at her devotion to him as kind of a phase in a way, where she's still figuring out having her own desires and abilities instead of repressing herself entirely to be Ram's substitute. So he's not looking at her like some loyal to the death follower, but someone who thinks she wants to do everything for him while actually doing what she herself wants. Like Subaru definitely didn't care THAT much about having mayonnaise, more tracksuits made, all those other things they did. But Rem was having a tonne of fun just being good at stuff herself and not just following Ram around(the latte art as well). So I think it's a huge misconception to look at her Subaru worship and think it's actually just Subaru worship - some of it is but some of it is things she can take pride in herself. Hell Ram's always encouraged that as well, she cooked the sweet potatoes their parents complimented Rem for. That was Rem doing something for others but really it was Rem trying to have something she can take pride in. The fact that what she tries to take pride in always looks like it's just her being someone else's lackey or something doesn't change that it's what she tries to build some self esteem with. Even when she's helping Subaru in arc 3, it's also building up how impressive Rem is, since she was depressed the whole time over negotiations with Crusch for an alliance and not being allowed to talk about it. Subaru starts talking to her and she's released from Roswaal's orders to work with him, but the WORK really comes from her as Subaru clearly thinks in volume 7's beginning. He just provided information to use and stopped shutting himself selfishly off from her which was the pettiest obstacle to Rem actually succeeding imposed by Roswaal to make Subaru Emilia's knight. She's the one from what I remember who decided the power play with Anastasia and Russell joining negotiations, and also helps Subaru unintentionally by not caving to Crusch when she can use her blessing of telling winds to see through Subaru. I think it was even her a little bit who jogs Subaru out of fearing the white whale before Crusch leads the charge. Arc three has a MASSIVE undertone of Rem being subservient to others, but actually being the one in charge from behind who makes the real difference in saving everyone. It's absolutely not just her building Subaru up for the entire thing, there are layers. So basically yeah. Everything from Rem in the if is in the main story as well, you just have to look deeper than if she was front and centre. But basically the whole point is her not being front and centre because she's leading while treating herself as inferior. I'm not a Rem stan like I said! I've seen this other guy who genuinely is one kind of argue the same for arc 3 Rem but get mad about people not getting to see Subaru's "confession" to her as well as her arc 7 arc. Spoilers arc 7 to the one of you who hasn't read it!!! Arc 7 Rem is absolutely how she should develop for me. She spent all that time building Subaru up before her coma, but it was unconsciously more selfish and about her getting to show her own value to the people she loves. Now she's awake! And she realises how damaging it was for Subaru to somehow be idolised to the point he talks that way to her! Which ironically is also him struggling with having idolised her for so long in her absence that even when she's literally breaking his fingers and acting horribly rashly out of trauma/pressure, she has this angelic halo on and hasn't done anything wrong. So yeah. I love arcs 1-3 Rem, arcs 4-6 absent Rem's lingering effects on all the other characters, AND arcs 7+ Rem reflecting on a past she doesn't remember. As well as the Rem if Rem who was there all along if you just look past the surface of her being subservient all the time. She's the only one who genuinely defeats Madelyn on her depressed murder spree, by taking the bit of Flop's hints and using it to immediately force Madelyn into a hostage situation of some sort. Rem's impulsiveness is both her worst flaw and greatest strength at times.

Please tell me this means you're gonna talk about the other IF routes. This is already my favorite podcast, but if you did that, I don't think it would be possible for anything to ever take that place. All the IF routes are just absolute peak, especially Gluttony and Wrath. Also Gold a real one for loving Ram

random thought: so zarestia is basically in an incomplete form ever since her limbs got severed and yet despite that her "head" stayed alive for centuries up until today, I wonder if her other limbs received similar treatments, either reforming as a person(somehow) or becoming useful artifact that could be used (kinda like authorities or witch's tombs)

About the return by death thing. Remember how the circumstances or how the reality of every RBD were changed slightly each time? This was expressed in season 1's Rem's and Ram's demeanor toward Subaru, maybe it was the miasma Rem smelled that changed her? It's just a curious thing. Does RBD warp reality somehow? Any thoughts?

in the ln's arc 2, it was explicitly said that thr change in behaviour came from: subaru's increasing miasma him not being able to act exactly like he did the loop before subaru "acting suspicious" and visibly "holding back" also in arc 4 wn (haven't read ln yet) subaru wonder aloud if rbd somehow somewhat changes the world whenever he goes back and if that's responsible for some things seemingly acting inconsistently, though he quickly dismiss the idea

"Rem distrusted Subaru explicitly because subaru was suspicious" sounds so unnatural, idk why it'd be used what "explicitly" means here is that whenever inconsistencies were brought up, the narration or the characters would directly point to the above mentionned reason as for why it's there. notice how I just told you what the source material seems to say about the subject and haven't given any absolute statements or my opinion though in my opinion, if rbd did slightly warp reality then the novel would present the idea as possible instead of always telling us it's not the case, and by now we'd have example of discrepencies between loops that couldn't be explained away by what naturally changes loops

Best girls : Elsa and Echidna. Tappei needs to write a Subaru and Elsa "if" story... I'm pretty sure it ends every page with being disemboweled and followed up by a return by death... You can fix her Subaru! If you think this is psychotic and masochistic, just remember that Rem also killed Subaru multiple times, without reason..And that's his #2 girl. At least Elsa had her reasons, since Subaru was constantly trying to interfere with her assassination missions. lol
