I love reacher and this is by far one of the best thing on tv right now..that being said, action felt boring/repititive after episode 4 as there were no major consequences , cardinal sin of not using second villain A.M who seemed interesting and they killed him in a cheap way Some of the most crucial, complex moments got resolved so easily that it became laughable after a point (hospital massacre, blasting a helicopter off in close proximity to city, the unnecessary highly convoluted missile hijack plan by villains final action sequence on helicopter etc) but I would still pay money to watch shows like reacher, terminal list than most of the stuff on tv

Season 1 was based on a 1st person book, so it mostly took place from Reacher's POV and the audience found out things along with him. It also happened mostly in a little town so it kept tight focus on the plot. Season 2 was based on a 3rd person book and involved a team of good guys and spread across multiple states, so it makes sense it wasn't as tightly written and focused as the first.

"Wins by default" hits the nail on the head. As much as I loved Season 1, Season 2 lacked the same realism, tight writing, and character work. It expanded the world-building in some much needed ways. Though, I would far prefer keeping the realism and tight writing, than expanding the Reacher Cinematic Universe. That said, I'll take Reacher any day over watching something with "t h e m e s s a g e"

Realism? LOL! This show isn't bad but, in the very first episode of season 1 I was laughing my ass of because of the dumb writing. I remember Reacher saying something about the 9mm that was used claiming it was subsonic but, the grain weight he quoted was 90gr or something along those lines which, would not be subsonic--that would be a +P or +P+ supersonic load. A typical subsonic 9mm is 147gr--some can be found around 135gr. It's obvious, at least in season 1, that the writers know nothing about guns or ammunition.

Man, Drinker, you were in a forgiving mood. There was so much DCS (Dramatically Convenient Stupidity) in this season...Reacher knows everything...until they need to keep the action going for another episode. aAllow me to point to the first time Bad Guy escapes in a helo. Reacher is shooting everywhere but...the helo transmission. He has to know you blast the living shit out of a rotor gearbox, the helo is coming down. But suddenly, he's not aware of that. Sheesh. To say nothing of killing every single bad dude in the first half of the season and not leaving anyone alive to question. And the best part of the show was Russo, the cop. He was a real character.

Every so often he gets checked by one of the female characters but never in such a way as to upstage him. The respect there goes both ways. The women are tough but no one thinks they are tougher than Reacher. Everyone has their skills as is deferred to on that basis as the story needs. The cast is pretty diverse too. I can’t see the “toxic” component. As for the women, Maria Sten looked pretty competent in the fight scenes. Serinda Swan, not so much, but she played the part pretty well. All in all, I think it was done really well. Looking forward to season 3.

My biggest gripe with season 2 was that bullets and knives didn’t hurt good guys on the same scale as bad guys. In the finale, the character O’Donnell literally takes a bullet in the leg at close range, then they extract the bullet with a switchblade. Dixon takes a knife in the shoulder. Reacher takes a knife all the way through the forearm. Tie a makeshift bandage around it and continue kicking ass. 8 hours later they’re all having coffee at a diner rather than: 1.) Bled out. (Most likely) 2.) in the hospital undergoing surgery.

I've been reading the Reacher novels for a little over a decade at this point, and I've loved most of them. When season 1 came out, I was initially planning to avoid it because I didn't want to see one of my favorite fictional characters destroyed. After seeing Alan Ritchman and realizing they'd actually cast someone as big as Reacher (as opposed to Tom Cruise), I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. I agree that the second season was a bit of a let down, though it was by no means bad. It's been quite a while since I read _Bad News and Trouble,_ so I recognized that a lot of the specifics in the show were different from the book, but nothing that seemed too drastic. All in all, there were only a handful of things I found difficult to accept. 1. Reacher hanging out the back of an airborne helicopter, holding onto a gurney with Dixon strapped to it. Complete nonsense. I don't give a damn how strong Reacher is, there was nothing for him to hold on to in that position, and there's no way he could have held on to that thing for that long. 2. Occasionally, Dixon and Neagley pushed girlboss levels of "awesome." I can accept the two of them being able to easily overpower other female characters, being able to shoot very well, and even holding their own for a while against males in hand-to-hand combat; being trained how to fight with your hands can make up for a bit of size difference between you and your opponent, but no matter how well trained a woman is, she isn't going to go toe-to-toe against even an average-sized man for more than a couple of seconds. 3. That fucking grill... So, overall, I thought the season was pretty good, if not as great as the first. I'm hopeful they'll return to form with _Persuader_ in season three, and if they do, I hope they adapt one of my favorite Reacher novels. I'd love to see _Echo Burning, Tripwire,_ or _One Shot_ in season four. (I'm aware they adapted _One Shot_ for the first of the Tom Cruise films, but I have a soft spot for that one, because it was the first Reacher novel I read and it's set in my home state.)

So many dumb moments. That was one of them. The exact next minute where an SUV magically appears in time to save a girl about to be shot by running over her assailant, but its headlights don't illuminate the guy, and it doesn't make a sound was another dumb moment. The final episode where the one lady gets stabbed in the arm and is incapacitated for just long enough for it to matter and is then fine. Ditto with the guy who gets shot and has a bullet dug out of his leg with a pocket knife but is able to jog afterwards. The many gunfights where they take on guys with rifles with pistols, and instead of picking up a rifle or a magazine on the ground and reloading, they rush a guy barehanded. The first season was just believable enough to suspend disbelief. This one was not, and was pretty disappointing.

Same with Russo leaving his cover for no reason to die a heroric death for no reason. I realy hope we get less of that in season 3 because it was overall still solid but sadly not good.

The military stuff fell flat to me. Felt like no one involved had any idea how the military works. For one not a single member of the unit ever shaved. I mean i get they are kind of playing outside the lines, but unless you are going undercover or something I am dubious that having no grooming standards while in uniform would be acceptable. There was also no explanation as to why every single member of the team, women included were 10x more badass than navy seals. I know he hand selected them, but nothing was mentioned about each character being basically as proficient in hand to hand fighting as MMA champions. The whole subplot with the cop they keep screwing over stretch credulity as well. Additionally, I felt like the whole thing could have been tightened up a bit, maybe trim off an elipsoide or two. Still a fun watch for all of that.

Having read the book, I noticed that they changed a lot when making this season. For example, in the book Reacher was hiding inside the helicopter before the villain and captives arrived and loaded, so he surprised them after they took off. I imagine the screenwriters decided to add more drama by having him grab hold of a helicopter in flight and climb aboard that way. Similarly his teammates were captured because the cop they were interacting with was the former partner of one of the bad guys, who then tricked them. I do wish screenwriters would leave the source material alone instead of thinking, "I can write a better ending than this!". No, no you can't. The movie adaptation of Stephen King's Cell, starring John Cusack, was similarly ruined with the ending being terrible and completely different from the book.

If anyone doesn't think it was cringy imagine him telling that to the generic white sidekick guy and patting him on the head instead. The assumptions kill mantra repeated over and over as something profound was also brutal, especially when Reacher himself made an absolutely massive assumption (their friend was innocent no matter what the facts looked like) and the show tried to gaslight the audience that somehow Reacher wasn't the one making the assumption but his friends who were following the evidence, and then at the end the plot just turns into a pretzel to vindicate him in a Mary Sue type contrivance.

I enjoyed Season 1 much better. The actor was a little smaller which made sense given the nomadic lifestyle of the character, Roscoe and the Tweed Tornado had different ways of dealing with Reacher, Roscoe and Reacher’s chemistry and interest felt organic and realistic, each of the trio had something to contribute, mercenaries who posed a serious threat, and Reacher himself was a LOT smarter. Contrast the S2 group of 4. Less for Reacher to do, fewer cold reads on enemies, no ex military baddies who posed a challenge in combat, even with 4 characters it felt bloated, and an antagonist who seemed very smart quick-thinking and resourceful who never poses a direct threat to Reacher and gets shot very un-climatically. However, I will check out S3 and hope they learn from mistakes of S2.

Yes Tom Cruise is not a walking fitness routine care commercial but what he lacks in physical presence he makes up for it in acting performance where his TV show counterpart is falling abysmally short, this dude can't act for shit outside of the whole big silent dummy which requires little to no effort on his part, and when he opens his mouth to deliver shitty dialogue, that's when I started laughing. It was literally hilarious to watch him stroll so buff that he can't even keep his arms to his side. Season One was put together very well with three distinct main characters whose roles, personalities and motivations were developed and well defined with little exposition needed. Season 2 packed a whole squad of characters into an abbreviated season that felt rushed and their chemistry artificial based on more flashbacks than Kwai Chang Caine meeting with Master Po. Perhaps the writer's strike or budget was a factor, but it did not take as much time and care to let the characters do the work instead of flash backs and plot devices. Still better than many, but not as good as the first.

First season was a great intro season for Jack. Second season was also good in showing that despite his talents, he also was part of a crew of folks that also had their own experiences and training. And seeing him embracing teamwork to resolve a case that was personal to them all was also good. But the thing is that the chronology got thrown off because of the story they used. The first season was based on the first "released" book. Over time, the series developed and there were books written to chronicle his years prior to Margrave (Season 1). The second season, however, skips over quite a few books that are set after Margrave to focus on one of the later books in the series. So if anyone feels like this season was different, you know why. Now it's going to be a question of how they handle Season 3 and place it in the chronology.

I agree 100%. The first season was much better. I think there are a couple of reasons why. First of all is the squad of special investigators took away too much time from Reacher going around being a badass. There were also quite a few "girl boss" moments with the fighting that made me roll my eyes. The second big problem was the anemic ending. Both the assassin and particularly Langston deserved much more painful retribution, and the way they both died was just a disappointing anti-climax. In the opening scene, Reacher's badly wounded friend says to Langson: "I can't wait to see what the big guy does to you." Yeah, me too. I wasn't expecting Reacher to just toss the big baddy out of the helicopter.

I hate to say it-'cause I like Reacher, and love Alan Ritchson in the role-but the series has a serious problem. Reacher is a Mary Sue. He's bigger, stronger, tougher, smarter, and more experienced than every other character. He's possessed of supreme confidence because he has no weaknesses and never fails. One of the reasons the second season wasn't as good as the first is that this Mary Sue-ness is wearing thin. I mean how many more groups of hit-thugs will Reacher decimate? He had to work with a team so someone could have weaknesses, fail, be captured, etc. I'm not sure there's a way out. I get the impression this problem is present in the novels being adapted. And it would take a very talented writer to now introduce interesting and meaningful weaknesses that don't contradict his established character.

You nailed it perfectly., you magnificent multi-faceted mythically-proportioned movie maestro ! All through the second season I felt like something was missing (long-time fan of Reacher and Lee Child books of the first dozen or so.) While still good entertainment, and especially happy to see a character portray the Reacher character, shall we say, proportionally(!), I too prefer him alone and without the Hollywood death-defying over-the-top action. Season one was possibly near-perfection, whereas season two was a good romp, and still better than most of what hits the screens large or small these days. Cheers!
