Post Modern Jukebox's "thing" is doing contemporary songs in vintage styles. Haley has done several videos with them and has toured with them but they use a lot of different vocalists. Morgan James version of "Dream On" is a good example. Another killer performance of Haley's is "Seven Nation Army" and another good one is Megan Trainor's "All About That Bass" with Haley, Morgan James and Ariana Savalas.

Raspiness can strain vocals if not done correctly, but Haley does it correctly and naturally so she suffers no vocal degradation.

So happy that you reacted to this! PMJ is a group of musicians that do covers of popular songs featuring really good guest singers who are less well known but very talented. Also, there is almost always a "vintage" twist to their version. I love this version of the song. As for the "rasp", I am not a vocal coach or medical professional, but I would think that anytime you are forcing the vocal cords to do something they don't normally do that you could possibly do some damage. They are muscles just like any other. Singers do vocal exercises just like any professional athlete to target whatever muscles groups they need for their sport/profession. Great reaction! Good luck on your "coast to coast" relocation! Safe travels, Sweetie!

The rasp can be a little hard on your voice, but there's a way to do it that minimizes damage. The technique is used by rock singers a lot. The breaks are register changes. Usually singers work to smooth those out so you don't notice switching from head to chest voice, but you can introduce occasional voice cracks for effect.

Postmodern Jukebox has done over 325 videos with an aggregate of over a BILLION VIEWS. While Haley is probably their most beloved colaborator, they have dozens of others, all of which are wonderful in their own way.

Oh I almost forgot, Haley's version of "Cant Help Falling In Love" went platinum: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hovIhmqJZ91-pqM. It's a beautiful song. And one more is a Haley Reinhart original song that was never released to radio but if ever it was it would surely be a major hit. It's called "Undone". The words to this song are especially beautiful kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqvVg5unhKaKq68. You'll love it.

I love how speechless you were at the end (especially at the key change)!!!! yeah, Haley does that to many/most people.... Her "Oops, I Did It Again" is also VERY different, but that is the goal of PMJB... from what I understand, most of the arrangements are done by the piano player. There are also other styles and voice combinations explored by PMJB using artists other than Ms. Reinhart... In regards to your question of singers possibly hurting their voices, the answer is yes and no. without being curt, a good vocal teacher can help to avoid problems, but the vocal cords and other muscles used are a complicated system. There are too many singers who do get nodes or have their tone/ease changed permanently... Using the diaphragm properly is another thing to consider...

Haley is incredible. The best vocalist I've ever heard in my life. Also fun fact about this video, that was their first take and she said it probably wasn't very good because she was very tired. Also check out her other postmodern jukebox covers, seven nation army and oops I did it again are the best.

Love me some Haley - in regards to the 'cracking', if you think about it, it's not much different of a vocal affectation from a country 'twang', but presented in a different way... but as always, it depends on training and technique in re: damage

+Katrina Baumann It's Postmodern Jukebox's European Tour version is the one you're referring to. There are a number of different versions on YT, mostly taken by amateurs with handheld camcorders or cell phones, and the recording quality isna usually very good although they can still be worth a listen.

Oh, Postmodern Jukebox is great! They take pop songs and usually do them in a different, classic styles. And they seem to love to scoop up people from the various singing contest shows, like American Idol. SO many amazing and different takes. I think it's cool to love the original and still enjoy the new take. Now for the other suggestions, of course, to give a wide variety of talents and styles- We Can't Stop (originally Miley Cyrus), Seven Nation Army (another Haley cover), Chandelier by, yes, Puddles the Clown (can also find an American Idol live version, definitely worth it for the reactions), Titanium with Von Smith, he's got an insane range, Really Don't Care, Morgan James featuring 'Tambourine Guy' (you'll know him when you see him), Criminal by Ariana Savalas (no idea if you'd remember, but she's the daughter of Telly Savalas of 'Kojack' fame), I Believe in a Thing Called Love with Maia Sykes. She's just incredible, and it's a very interesting take on the song, and Scars to your Beautiful- Sara Niemietz Just a few *laugh* suggestions.

sorry - one more suggestion: have you seen any performances done on the 'Wish bus'? this is a radio station on a bus that travels around the Philippines featuring great singers. Try these: Marcelito Pomoy - "The Prayer", Bugoy Drillon - "One day", and Morissette Amon - "Secret Love Song" and "Akin Ka Na Lang". I give these my highest ratings! Have a great day! Aloha!

I've been a fan of Haley since she was on "American Idol". I thought she should have won that season (Scotty McCreary was the winner that year). One song she's noted for covering is "House of the Rising Sun", which is a real treat. Postmodern Jukebox is also an excellent group, working with a lot of singers. I suspect you'll be getting a lot of reaction requests for both.

+Ben Smith Crum's version didn't hit me strongly, particularly on first hearing when I initially disliked it very much. I canna hack thon half whispering that he does throughout so much of it. When he opened up he showed he had a real voice. I've listened a number of times now to his version, and it has grown on me to a fair extent. However, I've heard nothing that for me approaches Haley's interpretation. Anguish, angst, and drama that are brought out by no other interpretations that I have heard.
