For Hobie, he was purposely animated differently and inconsistently to match his anarchist and punk ideology. Hobie is one of my favourites actually because of his personality. He may come off pretentious at first but it's just a front. He puts it up and it makes it so people don't take him too seriously. But no one expects his behind-the-scenes actions until he's done and moves on. We see him collecting parts of machines in Spider Society HQ. On the surface, he looks like he's just doing whatever just because he likes breaking rules, but he had a plan the whole time. He was making the multiverse watch he gave Gwen. My theory has been that canon is breakable as long as it's not altering a finalized event; ie, you can change the future but not the past. Miguel and Kingpin were both trying to alter events that were completed, therefore their attempts caused havoc. But with Miles and later Gwen, their broken canon wasn't technically canon YET so it doesn't count as canon. I'm talking not just the police captain thing with each of them, but Miles' spider bite too. If he was meant to be Prowler and was ALREADY Prowler, then yes I think the spider bite would have caused the universe to break. But he wasn't Prowler yet so it didn't affect anything. I also don't think Miguel is evil; if anything he's just traumatized by what he did and instead of accepting responsibility he's just clinging to a narrative that makes him feel slightly less guilty. Same with all the other Spiders who buy into that narrative. It hurts less if it was "meant to happen." They didn't "fail to save someone" if the person was always destined to die. These are damaged people, not villains. And I don't see anything in this film that could be considered foreshadowing for a "Miguel is intentionally lying" plot in the next one. Dude's daughter died in his arms because of his own mistake and he refused to get therapy, I don't think it goes much deeper than that.
@chronosclaimsall Жыл бұрын
THIS!!!! These are my exact thoughts and feelings on the situation. I've seen lots of people say that Miguel isn't really an antagonist because he's right, but I don't agree because of the holes in his thinking. He is (or used to be) a scientist, and every scientist knows that nothing is ever 100%. He of all people should know that the slightest variation can change the outcome of a situation/experiment, something as simple as "stopping something from happening" instead of "rewriting something that happened". If I put a bottle of water in the freezer, the ice might burst it and when it melts again all the water will leak out of the hole. But if I take it out before it freezes fully then the bottle [the universe] stays intact and I still get my water. Such a small change, such a big difference. So his adamant thinking that "Disrupting the canon WILL cause destruction" has always been flawed to me, but it obviously makes sense to him because of what he went through. Not only does the algorithm back him up but this thinking also makes it less his fault in a sense, because it's much easier to think that it was never meant to be than to think it could have gone alright if only you had done something differently.

Pretty much, because IF the canon was so easily able to destroy the universe, then every universe whose spider person went to Miles' world in the first movie (safe maybe the pig) would have been annihilated. Think about it, meeting Miles in this dimension made: -Peni's mech to be destroyed, which wouldn't have happened otherwise, this making her build a better one much earlier than it probably would've originally - Introduced the concept of colors to Noire's universe, which, since he couldn't understand it prolly didn't exist there yet -Changed how Gwen sees friends, with her finally making one in Miles, and also affecting how she reacts DURING the spider society chase, with her constantly being torn between both sides, which would not have happened had anyone else been sent there OR the collider business not happened -Beter recovering his marriage AND having a kid BECAUSE of Miles

I think the gwen stuff being overstimulating kind of makes sense. The entire segment is Gwen being overwhelmed. She's struggling emotionally in the beginning, not knowing how to handle Peter's death and her father hunting her, and then the chaos of Miguel, Vulture, and Jess. Gwen's universe specifically seems to react to emotions, brightening and darkening based on Gwen's emotions. So when she was overwhelmed, the stuff on the screen was also overwhelming for the viewer.

You guys came to the same thought as I did. Technically Miles' story isn't supposed to fit the cannon because he himself is an anomaly. He wasn't supposed to exist, so how can the cannon follow him if he isn't following the story himself.
@TheKat12364 Жыл бұрын
The theory is that he became a substitute and the cannon is bending to make itself fit which is why uncle Aaron also died well after uncle Ben already did. But yes my theory is that Miles has the ability to bend cannon himself because he is an anomaly.

Mumbattan was falling appart after spot's attack into a giant spott, but Miguel's alternate universe that was lost vanished by desintegrating into the glitching effect. The movie makes a point to establish these visual differences and I think that's a hint point to the fact that altering canon events by itself are not the cause of the multiverse colapse. Spot's genesis in the previous movie, which is the reason for other supervillains to jump into other universes, is probably not even what allowed Miguel to jump to other realities, he made was developing the watches before Into the Spider-verse. I have a theory to what might be the villanous force behing Beyond the Spider-verse and I think they're the ones who destroyed Miguel's perfect dimention.

If you guys remember in the first movie when Spiderman saves Miles from falling in the collider, their spider senses sense eachother and Spiderman's senses colors are red and blue but Miles's are purple and green but in 2 second it turns into red and blue just like Spiderman's. But the reason that Miles's spidersenses are purple and green is because he meant to be the Prowler. And the Miles from earth 42 meant to be Spiderman. You can confirm this from the scene that Spot tells Miles that he brought the spider from another universe, you can see that the spider was about to bite the earth 42 Miles in the scene we see while Spot is talking.

I think Captain Stacy was in the wrong, hence why he himself quit. Stacy had no substantial evidence to assume Spiderwoman murdered Peter with malicious intent. He was mainly motivated by personal trauma and vengeance at the death of Peter and targeted that at spiderwoman. Gwen didnt make it better and avoided being arrested but I really cant blame her just based on the scene where she revealed her identity.

There’s so much to fathom about how spectacular Across the Spider-Verse is! The world has buzzed about leading up to its release, it was hard to ignore the hype.😅 This sequel is very much like Avengers Infinity War, with how the story builds itself up to the climax and then, we are left with many questions about what’ll happen next with that bombshell of a plot twist at the end! That is some great story writing. This film is a solid S tier animated feature, one of the best of 2023!

to be fair infinity war does have a climax, the final fight in wakanda. It has that giant cliffhanger, but it still concluded what it had built up to, whereas ATSV builds up so much at the end and then we see "to be continued". It's an awesome movie, the end was just quite unsatisfying though

@@faceboy1392Respectfully, for the whole story they were trying to tell, there was far too much to try and wrap it up in one film. That's why they split it into two movies. Hence the first look we got of the movie revealing the title to be Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), before it was shortened to just 'Across the Spider-Verse'. I feel like that should have been a dead giveaway that this was going to be a two-parter.

I just wanted to add, there are so many art history references in the movie (and tbh it was only natural with so many different artstyles): when gwen is at peace with his dad again we can see abstract shapes behind her, coloured on white, those patterns are straight out a Kandinsky; when the spot evolves into his final form becoming black-ish with white doodles on him it's reminiscent Schiele and Toulouse-Lautrec for palettes and textures; Spiderpunk artstyle is clearly inspired in the post pop art punk-rock posters; the volture like you noticed resembles italian Renaissance drawings/projects like Leonardo's or Michelangelo.. and those are just the few that stood out to me but i'm sure there's more

I can't believe I actually watched the entire discussion. And on normal speed, too. That was a really cool back and forth on the themes of the film. I also appreciate that you guys actually talked about the fact that even if Miles IS special somehow, that doesn't necessarily mean that Miguel is wrong, since he would technically be correct in stopping literally any other Spider-Man BUT Miles. I hadn't even thought about that until you guys mentioned it. It actually really helped to sympathize with the other side. As a big Peter Parker fan, I was constantly upset at Peter B. Parker because "MY peter parker wouldn't let people die", but after thinking about it a little bit harder, I can accept it a lot better. I still think the next film is gonna be about how Miguel was wrong and you CAN break the canon, because it'd be weird for it to end with the conclusion that Miles SHOULD let his dad die (although that would be really interesting), but I'm way happier with the film because of what you guys said during your discussion. So thanks!

@iCyberDev Жыл бұрын
@@nugget3878 the only counterargument i'd have to this, for example, is maybe gwen doesnt seen miles as a threat so when he was invisible next to her, she didnt sense him. and jess wasn't "really" in the room in spot's apartment. as for miguel, he doesnt have spider sense because he's different and just has a serum that imitates spiderman powers. And the VR avatar spiderwoman is not really in the room but she's in her own bedroom when the machine started. And the the algorithm pixie that i call "YUI" personally as an homage to sword art online, i dont think she's a spider person, but an AI or algorithm, so all the people that were in the room there cant sense miles per se even if they see a threat. the show made it convenient for both theories, but hey it could be possible that mile's powers were supposed to be the earth 42 miles powers, and they're tailored to how he's dealing in a world where it's very tech oriented and high securtiy and potenitally need to be more of a cyberpunk stealthy spiderman vs normal spiderman to be able to be effective in that world, but in our mile's world, the power set is not what supposed to happen to him and he may be a bit more overloaded than his world expected.

My theory is that the Aaron Davis and Miles Morales of Earth-42 aren't actually //evil// per se -- but they're in a world where evil (the Sinister Six Cartel, for example) has largely taken control. The fact that Jefferson, Miles-42's dad, was killed rather than Uncle Aaron, definitely makes me think that the two of them are embarking on a secretive guerrilla war against the Cartel, stealing what tech they can to fight against them. That's why Aaron scoffs when Miles-1610 tells him that he has a choice, that he could be a good guy -- because from Aaron-42's perspective he already //is// as good a guy as that broken world will allow. Also, the song Aaron-42 puts on in the beginning of that scene ("Ain't No Love In the Heart of the City") has some particularly telling lyrics -- all about how there's no love in the heart of the city, in the heart of the town, because someone isn't around anymore. That seems like it //has// to refer to Aaron-42 mourning Jefferson, and what he and Miles-42 have had to become because of his death. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWmygIh6idikg5I

Side note before my main rant: Pavitr is using a diabolo as a web-slinging tool!!! It’s a circus instrument and they are so so so cool and fun to work with. Like giant detached yo-yos. I legit whooped when I saw it sling into frame in the theater, I was super excited because I recognized it immediately. Pav and Hobie are both insanely cool, I love them. So. The whole getting philosophical thing is absolutely warranted in any discussion of this film - the crux of the plot conflict is a classic Trolley Problem, which has confounded philosophers and laymen alike for the last fifty years! There is no right answer - both Miles and Miguel have valid reasons for the choices they’ve made and intend to make, and through action or inaction both of their solutions end in the death of innocents. Both are doing their best to do good in this impossible scenario, their opinions just fall to opposite sides of the tracks. Also, one party is an idealistic child with VERY personal stakes in the outcome, and the other party is a heavily traumatized man with anger issues operating under the desperation of the sunk cost fallacy. They’re both making highly emotional snap decisions, and both of their judgments are cloudy right now. The answer has to come from somewhere else for there to be a satisfactory conclusion. I’ve got a strong feeling finding that answer is going to rely on the linked triad of Prowler Miles, Spiderman Miles, and The Spot. They have the key, somehow.

Thank you, I swear you dudes are like the only ones who listened to Miguel explain why breaking canon is a terrible idea and how we don't know any better. As for Miles, the most likely interpretation of his situation is that he usurped his universe's Spider-Man role when he got bit, which caused his Peter to die and the canon to re-work itself around him, which then killed his Uncle Aaron as the Uncle Ben canon event. So while he is an anomaly, he's also holding his universe's canon together as a substitute, but also causing other realities to unravel by his very nature as an anomaly. At least, as far as we know now. Next movie may reveal some new info. But until then, we only got Miguel's word(which is the best info we have) and our own speculation based on that.

That explanation makes sense..but something about Miguels story is sus. I just hope Sony can land this plane. Miles has lost all faith in all the spider society especially peter b and Gwen two of the very ones he risked his life for helping fight kingpin to get them back to their respective dimensions before the glitching killed them. Even if Gwen’s elite squad rescues him from earth 42, a more somber, emotionally distant Miles should be portrayed in the next film. A little Batman ish even.

For me, Miguel is using a false equivilence. The other Miguel was already dead, and our Miguel took his place, changing something that already happened. Everything else is yet too happen. Since the 199999 mention means the MCU is connected, think of it like ep 4 of What if, after Christine dies, changing the absolute point destroys the universe, but until that happens, its not the set event, since our Strange had a different set of events. So technically, different events should be possible in the absolute point, but they arent, because it already happened. I know what Im talking about, and still confusing myself, so if you think Im talking shit, who knows, I might be. But its also the fact that Miguel specifically chooses to surround himself with people who will agree with him, Spider-people who have gone through the trauma, so wont question him. He only takes Gwen when she is desperate, so she wouldnt question him in case she be kick out and left alone.

But in both Miles world and the Indian Spiderman world a collier went off. Miles changing the cannon event isn't what caused the world to start collapsing it was the collider. Peter A Parker says that in the first movie before he dies, this will create a hole under New York. Miguel either isn't seeing the collider connection or is ignoring it to suit whatever plans he has.

@@Peacemaker2025-A9Tit’s an in character decision for miles to fight for his family’s survival and safety tho. And the support around that is understandable. Especially as we see miles is not placing much value in family or family bonds by avoiding being truthful in the movie (this creating misunderstanding and a divide).He starts to realize how important they are to him when he learns that he is going to lose his dad. Doesn’t help Miguel decided to physical detain him, most people don’t respond well to that for any reason. At that point it’s implied that the fight (in Miles POV) became saving his family from bad people who’ll let them die. Plus it’s a kids movie I feel like either there is going to be a loop hole to save his father or he going on a villain arc, since miles doesn’t believe he has anymore reliable people to trust.

Miguel used to be like all the other Spidermen, he wanted to help & save everyone he could but then got faced with the horrible reality of destroying an entire dimension because of his "harmless mistake". & then there's Miles, who may be the strongest personification of Spidermans motto of "I can save everyone & I will try no matter what". & when faced the horrible reality of having to let his father die in order to keep the canon going, he said "nah im do my own thing". Okay so Miguel is talking crazy. He's traumatized so I get what he's on about but his idea of canon events is full of holes. The first thing he shows when talking about things that happen to every Spider-Person is getting bit by a spider. However, Miguel himself wasn't even bitten by a spider. He got his powers through gene manipulation. Peter Porker got bitten by a radioactive PIG. Also the one that upsets me the most (not rll it's good characterization) is him saying that Miles getting bitten is the reason his Peter died. But that literally says that his universe simply adapted to the change. He was Spider-Man for 1 year and 4 months. Nothing happened. The massive quantum hole that appeared in Mumbattan WAS from The Spot. His theme even played. Not to mention Miguel's universe glitched while there's just a black hole in Mumbattan. Not very consistent right? However I do have a theory why Miguel's dimensions glitched away instead of adapting. The thing is, Miguel isn't from that dimension. He doesn't glitch because he's wearing the watch. But where does all the energy go? It's like when you're driving really fast. If you were to stop immediately you'd die. The entire car would end up being a pancake because all that force = energy needs to go somewhere. Because Miguel COULDN'T glitch it had to evade to the rest of the universe. Especially because he probably stayed for at least a year. So yeah, Miles is not the villain. Especially because he's A 15 YEAR OLD KID. He's absolutely right for wanting to save his dad. So yeah, he's not wrong.

This mulitiverse in Spiderverse didnt exist until the collider. The collider is the cause of worlds. Hence, Miguel tells Gwen they didnt do a great job in ITSV and also Dr Strange too. The gap between ITSV and ATSV Miguel had created the Spider society, got Peter B to help him try to save the other Miguel world. Every spiderman where leaving normal until the invention of the collider. They never had the opportunity to do any saving of Uncle or Captain.

And she learns to rely on others and forms a squad at the end! I think too many strong women in modern stories don’t really show weakness or they “don’t need your help” because they’re independent. I love this girl character who is fierce & feminine with her ballet shoes and who learns to depend on others. That’s a wonderful thing! This is such a great movie in so many ways! I'm surprise by the take on gwyn's aesthetic. I get I guess, but I always thought the intense colors, especially how it changes per frame, is a reflection of how frazzled Gwyn's mental state is during the reveal.

Small detail about hobie, He has blue shoe-laces alluding to lace code, blue laces mean that he's killed a cop(possibly the one he was close too) which is part of his story in the comics.

Ben Reilly, the Scarlet Spider, was originally a clone of Peter. Then it turned out Peter was the clone and Ben was the original. Then it turned out Ben was really the clone. He took Uncle Ben's first name and Aunt May's maiden name.

Math guy here. Here's something that might help. There are an infinite number of numbers between 0 and 1 (e.g. 0.1, 0.11, 0.111, etc), but ALL of those numbers are greater than 0 and less than 1. Just because there are an infinite number of something doesn't mean EVERYTHING is part of it. 2 is not between 0 and 1. Infinity does not mean everything. Miguel is asserting that ALL spidermen have to exist between 0 and 1. There are an infinite number of spider-men that exist between 0 and 1 (they conform to the cannon). But that doesn't mean that every possible set of events can happen to a spider-man, because if a spider-man is outside of cannon (is a 2 or a 3), then BY DEFINITION, they can't be spider-man, because they are outside the limits. And, according to miguel, that will break the universe because you can't be both a 2 AND be between 0 and 1. HOWEVER, Miguel could be wrong about the limits. MAYBE the rule of what it is to be spider-man is actually between -1 and 1 and it just so happens that MOST of them are positive. Miles's anomalous nature might be unusual without being universe-breaking. Miguel is taking that one event, the thing that happened to him and WILDLY extrapolating what it means for everyone else. But he could be wrong. ... or he could be lying. The only person we heard his story from was him. It could be bullshit. I tend to lean towards him being wrong and misguided, rather than malicious, personally. And I think that Gwen is going to prove that to him. Miguel showing up and saving Gwen eventually led to her dad quitting and therefore not dying. Cannon broken. Yet... her universe is fine. With that evidence in play, I think Miguel and the rest of the Spider-Team take on Spot and Miles in #3 and we figure out what it was that actually broke his original universe. Not the cannon thing, but something else. Miguel will learn it wasn't his fault after all. ... and probably die. Y'know. Cuz it's a spider-man story after all. People gotta die. And if it's not going to be Miles' dad (and I don't think it will), then it's got to be Miguel.

Spot is a representation of Sony: we couldn't take them seriously before, but now nobody's laughing anymore

It’s really interesting how quick you guys are to empathize or side with the figures of authority (Gwen’s Dad, Miguel) even when the movie is positioning them as wrong, or at the very least extremely biased.

Ngl i was also leaning on Miguel's side here. Yes he could be wrong and Miles saving his father might not have any consequences, but if Miles is wrong then he is potentially risking the lives of billions of people. That's too much of a risk imo. It's better to be safe than literally kill billions
@ThePonderer Жыл бұрын
@@wuttatota148there’s definitely something Miguel knows that he’s not telling the others. His and Miles’ situations don’t equate. “Saving one life” and “taking over the life of my dead counterpart” are too dissimilar for Miguel’s word to be taken as gospel. He’s working on an even flimsier assumption about the potential consequences than Miles is.

@@wuttatota148Just realized that Thano's plan (in Disney Marvel) was not dissimilar to Miguel's ethics; further, Miguel had some parallels with Wanda's recent motivations in the Disney Marvel's "Dr. Strange ITMOM".

@@ThePonderer Why do people insist that Miguel is a liar? Can't he just be wrong or misguided? What does he gain by lying? He's still a Spider-Man, a hero.
