The anime improves every season from s1 to about s5/6 from there the quality is great. Never saw an improvement past s6. Story wise it was well written till like vol 4/5/6 forgot which one. Mounty Oum the director and creator got sick and could not continue giving direction. So after one of those seasons it was the team creating the story with some input from Monty until he's death. Most fans didn't like the direction it was going in past s4-6 because the show felt lost. I'd say still give it a watch. On the side note Japan also made a season for the show that's canon but doesn't need you to have watched the American one to follow the story.

You're right. The songs are great throughout the entire series. It's one of the things that RWBY is known for. The singer, Casey Lee Williams, the daughter of the composer/musician Jeff Williams, is the one who did all of the intros and most of the OST music. She recorded this song when she was just 12 years old. After Volume/season 8 posted, Jeff Williams retired from creating music for RWBY and passed the torch on to Casey to help with creating it. The animation is rough because the creator, Monty Oum did it for the 1st 2 trailers by himself as a proof of concept to management of Rooster Teeth. After a while they accepted it, made 2 more trailers and made the 1st volume/season (it's a story so they call them chapters and volumes rather than episodes and seasons), giving him about 4 or 5 animators to help. As the popularity grew, so did the budget, and so did the quality. Weiss Schnee was the name the announcer mentioned in the White Trailer. For an interesting note, Jeff Williams was the voice of the announcer. They hadn't gotten greenlit yet so they didn't have VAs. I'd love to see you react to the series. If you do, you can pretty much do the entire 1st volume/season in one go as a movie, if you wanted. All of the chapters/episodes are very short. Even if you don't react to the series, I hope you enjoy it on your own. Oh, and hopefully you forgot everything from the intros because there are a LOT of important spoilers in them. If you forgot them, do not go back and look at them again, in order to prevent major plot point and twist spoilers. If you do do the series, RWBY has always been reactor friendly. Even though Vis has taken over the rights, this has continued, that I've seen up to this point, at least.

@@KingGurrenAlex7 Monty actually died quite suddenly. He had an allergic reaction in an allergy office, went to the hospital, then they gave him a medication that nobody knew he was allergic to, including himself. He went into a coma after that and died shortly thereafter.

Season 10 is... well, the studio is bankrupt so we don't know outside of a storyboard animatic shown at RTX after season 9 ended(supposedly it was meant to be the after credits scene, but they ran out of time). VIZ may continue it. They may reboot it. They might do both. We don't know.

Casey Lee Williams and her dad Jeff Williams did all the music for RWBY (caleb hyles was also brought on after doing many covers which was super cool) prior to season 9 when her dad stepped away but she was only 14 when first starting out. All the OSTs are absolute bangers though. Also regarding the weapons. "Its also a gun" applies to nearly everyone.

The late Monty Oum animated these trailers and was head director for the series until his passing where his co director took over. He made the animators use the program he was used to for the first three seasons then after his passing they transferred to the program their better with hence the fighting animation of the series takes a dump in season 4 (trying to match the feel of the earlier seasons with a completely different production method) but improves as it went on. RWBY is fairy tale inspired, of the main group alone (the four girls of this trailer) we have: Ruby Rose(red riding hood), Weiss Schnee(Snow White), Black Belladona(Beauty and the Beast), Yang Xiao Long(Goldilocks). These trailers are kind of character trailers while showcasing the fight choreo Monty could pull off (Fun fact ruby trailer was the animation he gave Rooster Teeth to sell to them that it would be good to produce since he was already working on Red vs Blue at the time)

I've seen loads of reactions to the RWBY trailers over the last decade and its shocking how most of them (so you're not alone here) completely miss why Blake leaves the guy at the end of her trailer. They're planting charges to destroy the train, Blake asks "what about the crew members?" with concern in her voice and he just blows her concern off like nothing. Clearly he's OK with murdering train workers and she isn't, so she leaves him. And No, he doesn't get any credit for saving her because he is the one that brought her there in the first place.

Blake's VA is the same VA who voices Black Swan in Honkai Star Rail. As for why she ditched that guy, it sort of tells you in the trailer. He was willing to hurt the innocent crew members, and she wasn't. The poetic stuff at the start is insight into the character's stories. Yang's makes more sense once you get further into the series. You should really react to this series. It is a lot of fun, and the series has been picked up by VIZ I think it was. lol Another thing CCs like to do is react to the OST of the volume once they finish it to get another layer of insight into characters. The episodes of the first two seasons are kind of short so you could probably finish the first two fairly quickly. As the budget increases and more people are brought on board the quality of the series and the episode length goes up a great deal. A lot of characters in this series are inspired by or are a reference to fairy tales and legends. Some of the fun is trying to figure out the character's inspiration.

Legend has it that a late legend by the name of Monty Oum came up with an idea while working on Red VS Blue, and with some free time whipped up the RED Trailer by himself as a proof of concept. Given the greenlight, the comissioning of a kickarse soundtrack by Jeff and Casey Lee Williams, writing from Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross, and a cast of voice actors picked up from around the office, this unique story of a series was born.

Just 3 very short episodes produced before the first season of the series was. (2/2) It's... surprising how often I see people get confused by the end of the Black Trailer. Hell, you even paused and recited their prior conversation yourself and still ended up asking why. There's... a pretty good reason there, I'd say. As for these quotes... yeah they probly were chosen to be flowery, but they *will* make sense if you eventually watch the show, trust me there- Also prooobably worth noting that the 3 of these girls are 17 and Ruby 15 as of the show's start, so I wouldn't go in expecting a bunch of *those* shots.

The combat in these trailers was done by the creator, Monty Oum, who unfortunately passed away a couple years later. His talent in creating fight scenes was also seen in season 8-10 of RvB, which actually landed him this chance to create his own series. As an added fact, Monty created the entire first trailer's animation by himself I believe his old youtube channel is still up, which has move of his work, mainly the dead fantasy series which is all fighting with no real plot

You are right you can't get a scar like that from a single hit... if it was a blade. You saw her recieve the char in the trailer. You can in fact you can git a misaligned scar like that if it was an impact split from the knight. Also important to note the last 3 trailers are all canonical things that happen before the seried start. The red trailer is entirely non canon outside Ruby's appearance and weapon. It was a showcase of the action and het design and nothing more. Also the music was always the best part of RWBY.

The trailers were really budgeted. Monty Oum animated the Red trailer all by himself as part of his pitch to RT. From what I've seen with your channel, this show is right up your alley. The music is on point, the combat is spectacular and the voice acting as well as the animation improve drastically throughout the volumes. There are flaws with the show, early and late, but I'd say overall it is absolutely worth your time if you decide to follow it. Every soundtrack in the show has a place as well, some reactors listen to the soundtracks after the volumes to listen to some of the stories that are sprinkled through them. Some are purely related to characters, some to events and some to the world in general, entirely done inhouse. Also if you're interested, Monty Oum did a series before he moved on to animating for RvB and ultimately RWBY called Dead Fantasy. Pretty much him mixing the worlds of Final Fantasy and Dead or Alive in a 'What if these characters all fought each other' type thing. It really showcases his incredible combat choreography and is one of the main reasons RWBY appealed to so many people. Monty is a legend.

Luke you NEED to watch this show. It is absolutely amazing. It has won so many accolades from the art style to the music. Admittedly the first few seasons are rough on the animation due to production limitations but the quality only gets better every season. Actually a scar (smite) across the left orbit (or cheek and temple) was fairly common in Academic Fencing (akademisches Fechten/Mensur) and was considered a mark of distinction in previous centuries, as it marked the ability to take a blow to the face from a schlager without flinching. The masks were actually designed to allow such scars to be acquired. I suspect this is where the idea for Weiss' scar originally came from. And the trailers went from proof of concept (Red) to actual teasers for the upcoming series. Whilst introducing the major protagonists of the show and their fighting style, they are also important prequels to the actual series. Monty Oum, as both dancer and martial artist, really was a specialist in combat choreography. The music by Jeff Williams and his daughter Casey on lead vocals) rocks and rocks hard, and continues to do so through the series. And yes, the voice actors were people at Rooster Teeth that Monty asked to voice his characters.

as far as we know Weis' scar was that punch from the Armos Gigas (despite her character model already having the scar, they only had the one to work with) the knuckles and finger plating caused the cuts while the innate defenses these characters have prioritized protecting her eye. Still no confirmation for sure though.

@@KitsyX look closely and you can see the scar fully formed before the blood and even while its there, despite the cut being on her forehead. They were running on a low budget the entire first season so some of it needs to be taken as 'impressionistic' and we need to see this as the injury due to the transition between blood in the fight to the song's final bow highlights the scar replacing the blood.

All of team RWBY is based of off fairy tale characters Ruby Rose is Little Red Riding Hood where she became the Huntress (Fighting Werewolves in the Red Trailer) Weiss Schnee is Snow White. Her name is a german translation of White Snow. Blake Belladonna is Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Adam being the beast and she's trying to escape him (Which you see at the end of the Black Trailer) Yang Xiao Long is Goldilocks. Always rushing into situations without analysing it first.

Fun facts about RWBY: -It started as a series by the late Monty Oum. He was in charge of the animation and even the voice for one of the characters prior to his death. -RWBY is spent out by both the colors and names of each of the girls. Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long. -Fairy tale stories, historical figures and even mythology are used for inspiration for the characters. I mean Ruby is Little Red Riding Hood while Weiss's full name means Snow White. And while not obvious, Yang's trailer actually is a massive reference to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Yang being Goldilocks and Junior being Baby Bear. -The Twins that Yang fought in her trailer are the initial designs for Ruby and Weiss Respectively. -There is an official anime known as RWBY Ice Queendom which gives us more context regarding a lot of stuff. Especially why Weiss was fighting the knight in her trailer. -Yes, Ruby and Yang are sisters. They're half sisters. -After Rooster Teeth had shut down, RWBY was acquired by Viz Media.

It's funny you say that anyone else would probably kill themselves with Red's weapon. It is specifically remarked by another character in the very first episode that it's one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed lol White's scar being off IS a bit strange but I think an angled strike COULD do it. Either way I'm pretty sure they did change it later on to be much more aligned. Rooster Teeth was indeed shut down by Warner Bros earlier this year, but they did manage to transfer ownership of RWBY to Viz Media before they were completely gone. What Viz plans to do with it is still unknown but it's almost definitely better than letting WB kill it for a tax write-off. Early RWBY fight scenes were INSANELY good mostly because Monty Oum, the creator and lead animator, was like a once-in-a-generation talent at it, you can tell EXACTLY where he worked on RvB's animation as well. Unfortunately he passed away due to a medical complication a couple years after RWBY started, and you'll definitely notice the dip in fight quality if you watch it, but the animation OVERALL does get better throughout the series. You can even sort of feel Monty's influence in some of the fights even well after he passed. The OST is done almost entirely by father and daughter duo Jeff and Casey Lee Williams and they're so good. Jeff did almost all the songwriting, but he actually retired a few years ago and Casey is now in charge of music but I'd say she might actually be outperforming her father lol. I think the OST is an integral part of the RWBY experience, a lot of the songs foreshadow and reveal so much about the story and characters that you probably wouldn't quite get from just watching the show. Voice acting is definitely on the cheesy side in the beginning, ESPECIALLY the trailers, but it gets really good later on as well as the VAs grow into their roles. I'd like to say more about the story but I think it's best experienced first-hand. If you liked the trailers well enough, I implore you to give it a shot. I'll only give you ONE little crumb that might intrigue you: Every single character is based on a fairy tale, myth, legend, or other such literary figure. It's quite fun seeing reactors try to figure out who is supposed to be who lol

It's important to know with RWBY that it started out as a passion project above all else. Monty Oum wanted to make a thing and so he did, with no real budget or big team. Even the software they used wasn't supposed to be used for animation at this level. And the voice actors were people they just pulled from around the office. So no, it's not the most professional looking or sounding thing starting off and it didn't have to be. It was a showcase of Monty and his friends' creativity and talent. What's special is seeing it improve and grow as time goes on and it gets more popular. Higher budget, bigger team, grander story, wider reach. So it's best when starting out to look at it not as some professional production that doesn't visually hold up to other animated shows, but as a little indie project that earned its success over time.

Luke "what is this weapon? " answer: is a scythe.... that's also a gun. The scar was from a gauntlet fist bigger than her head so yeah, that's how it's jagged. Blake didn't want to sacrifice innocent lives. Adam couldn't care about them. The theme for yang blends the others but it's really good. The songs in RWBY are so good. You should check them out. The animation for the series evolves as you get further through the vols. I definitely recommend watching!

I'm really glad you caught on the quality of the fighting animations. Monty Oum, the creator, was the one doing most of the fighting choreographies in Rooster Teeth animations before his passing, and the animators that took after him on RWBY did a great job at keeping the same quality. The first 2 trailers were done by Monty all alone, as proof of concept, he animated them during his breaks while working on Red vs Blue and the music was added later, once the trailers were ready to be released. The 2 last trailers were made after the project for the series was approved, so that's why they're voice acted. While, indeed, Rooster Teeth closed down months ago, RWBY was recently picked up by another studio (I don't remember their name exactly, but they've worked on some huge things in the past), and I believe they've re-hired most of the crew that worked on it, including the writers. If everything goes well, we can expect the next Volume (the name of their seasons) to be released within the next 3 years.

A big helper in getting to know the personalities of the characters is hidden within the lyrics of each of their individual song's, along with some of their story. You'd have to go and listen carefully to each one. As a side note these were made as hype before the series and were also made so that they were also "Cannon" to the show itself, once it aired.

Since no one has mentioned them... Ruby : Lindsay Jones, Let's Play regular. This also led her into a role in Overlord season 3 Weiss : Kara Eberle, RT employee, tho to call her that seems too narrow for what she did there. Blake : Arryn Zech brought in to voice Blake. She has been cast on a few anime dubs as well, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and The Detective Is Already Dead Yang : Barbara Dunkleman, RT production director and creative director, appeared on many RT podcast episodes and had her own podcast on RT. RWBY used a lot of in house talent but also brought in outside talent as well. Probably most notable would Vic Mignonga(Edward Elric in Full Metal Alchemist). Yuri Lowenthal, Afro Samurai, Gurren Lagann and Naruto. The first three seasons were rough but you could see where it was going. Early episodes were also pretty short also. Later on with a bigger budget and more animators visual quality increased, unfortunately Monty Oum passed away before before season 3 aired. Monty, Kerry Shawcross and Miles Luna had worked on it before his passing. This is also where you can see a difference in the fight choreography. Monty has a way to give his characters weight, and I mean like physical weight. You can see in the Red trailer, there is a scene where it is close up on her boots as she lands, watch and the foot doesn't just land, it bounces as if it actually reacting to the landing. I think Monty was able to bring out the physical weight in his fights and also use momentum and redirection of force to an amazing level. Watch the fights again, especially Red and Gold. You'll see them use the reaction of the gunfire to redirect or enhance their attacks. I kind of think that dynamic was lost after his passing. The Red trailer was literally Monty Oum pitching the series to RoosterTeeth after he finished RvB Season 10. "What's the story behind these girls?" Well, there is over a hundred episodes all about that... Yes, they were eventually owned by Warner, who shut them down to sell the IPs or write them off for tax purposes to cover losses of their own. Viz Media, who worked with the RWBY IP before, now owns it. Same song for the Black/Blake trailer, just stopped and then started again. Blake left cause Adam didn't care about killing the train crew with the explosion. Most of the quotes only make sense in hindsight, as they allude to things that are revealed later in the series. All songs are done by Jeff Williams and sung by his daughter Casey Lee Williams, who took over song duties in Volume 9.

The Red Trailer features Ruby Rose. It was very much a proof of concept since the “werewolves” were an early version of the ever present enemy of the series. The White Trailer featured Weiss Schnee. Her trailer was meant to convey her sense of loneliness, which you’ll find more out about if you watch the series. Interestingly, you said that Weiss has Snow White vibes & in German, her name translates to “White Snow”. The Black Trailer features Blake Belladonna. Her trailer acts as a prequel to her story in the series. The Yellow Trailer features Yang Xiao Long. Her trailer deals with a bit of her early motivation & gave a glimpse of one of the villains. The Black & Yellow trailers had one song each. “From Shadows” in the Black trailer changes tempo, which may be why you thought it was two songs. “I Burn: Yellow Trailer Version” has remixed versions of the first three songs before ending with an original part that fits Yang. All the songs in RWBY are amazing! Jeff Williams is an amazing writer & singer while Casey Lee Williams, his daughter, provides incredible vocals. RWBY is pronounced like Ruby.

The Yellow Trailer was remixes of all 4 songs, which does mean we get the song for Yellow in a remixed format before we get the base song. XD The Male vocals in the Black song is the songwriter Jeff Williams and the rest are his daughter Casey Lee Williams, who was 13 years old at the time!(started at 12 recording for Rooster Teeth) She is the primary vocalist for the whole show.

They are students trying to become huntresses. This series is incredible. The soundtracks are the best. I mean it. Every volume has the best songs. Better than any other series. The episodes are short. You should try reactions to it. You Can knockout a whole season and the soundtrack for that season in less than 2 hours. Weiss's scar came from the punch she recieve that we saw in the trailer. But yes, the scar should only be above her eye. The first 2 trailers were pretty much done by Monty by himself on a computer. He used the Red and White trailers to get the show approved. That's why they don't have any speaking parts. There was no show yet, so there were no voice actors either. Mistaken like the scar happen throughout this show, but considering how small the budget was it's something you just get used to. Each year they hot more money and people to work on the series. The animation improves each volume(season). It's a shame that Roosterteeth is no more. Warner Brothers shut it and all of their content down. An anime company in Jaoan bought RWBY from Warner Bros a few months ago. Hopefully they get this show through to the end. I need closure. I love RWBY So much. I have watched the whole series since day one in 2013. Some cool info about this show. The creator Monty Oum animated the whole Red Trailer by himself. He sadly died in 2015. The soundtrack is original. The woman singing in the trailers is Casey Williams she was 14 years old when these trailers came out. Her father was the song writer. Every RWBY Volume has KZbin videos with the lyrics. Casey now has taken over the role with her band. The 4 main characters are all inspired by fairy tales. Spoiler tag in case you (or anyone else) intends to watch the series and havent gotten to it yet. . With Blake, it is one song, called From Shadows. The first half is Blake singing about the social conditions of a race called the Faunus, or beast people, and how they are subject to prejudice but talks about wanting to better their lives, then Adam answers in the 2nd verse with his more radical views. Blake's father used to be the leader of the Faunus fighting for their rights in a diplomatic fashion, Adam runs a more radical splinter cell who believes fear and terrorism will gain the Faunus equal footing with humanity. Once Adam showed no care for the crew running the train Blake decides she can't support his efforts anymore and runs away seeking asylum disguised as a human in a faraway city (where we meet her at the start of the show) Still watching, if I have more to add after the Yellow trailer ill comment below.

Blake left Adam behind since the psycho was going to kill off the living crew. Yes, the song in the Yellow trailer is a club mix of the first three themes and finishing with Yang’s own.

A love of people LOVE early Rwby, I'm in the minority who does not really like these trailers. Aside from the music!! The voice acting and writing were both pretty rough to start out, but it definitely has charm, and I feel like things really step up in volumes 3 and up. If you do decide to watch, it's a ton of fun to watch the show grow and find itself as it does! I'd just say take comments with a grain of salt and probably ignore a lot of them. A lot of the fans of the show mean well but they can be kind of intense, and this is one of those shows that attracts a lot of discourse lol

Ah RWBY. A true tragedy of the creative process. So much potential spoiled by the death of it's creator in 2015 (a mere two seasons into its runtime), and some very unwise corporate/creative decisions after the fact. I feel bitter seeing this show these days, but I occasionally look back to its humble beginnings with a deep sense of fondness for its style and the man who could singlehandedly make it so in less than two weeks. if you end up watching the show, which i really hope you do. you'll see that the voice acting and animation drastically improve over time as it got more budget. monty was making the animations for the fight scenes in later seasons of red vs blue and asked if he could try and make his own show so they gave him limited budget and he made the 4 trailers and season 1 then after so many people liked it they gave it more and more funding for the next couple seasons and the animation and stuff gets way better.

Now that you have seen the trailers, would you consider doing a reaction series? RWBY has currently 9 Volumes (seasons if you will) of chapters to watch. RWBY fans (typically referred to as the FNDM) would follow along. But be warned, FNDM LOVES to spoil future volumes and chapters. Some just can't help themselves when they discuss characters, weapons, names, etc, to the point where they either hint towards future volumes/chapters, or they outright tell you. Would love to see your takes on the series, but I can understand if you have to wait on that for a while (like if you have a backlog that you have to get through first). First Volume can be a bit rough... skeleton crew of animators and a small budget equals a short Volume overall, to the point where they split chapter into 2 parts, one per week, when they would normally be combined. Since Rooster Teeth has closed its doors, RWBY (having not been completed yet) was homeless until recently. Supposedly there are rumors that Volume 10 IS being made at this time, but I'm personally not 100% sure. They would have had to hire animators and the voice actors for the continuation. And who knows where it will be released... hopefully not behind a paywall again...

RWBY is an abbreviation of the main character names - Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long. In the lore, people, like the RWBY team, are named after colours. Ruby - The gem stone and the rose bush Weiss - White snow in german Blake - Old english for a person with black hair,, and belladonna as in the deadly nightshade Yang - Yellow, from the Chinese word for Sun or daylight and Xiao Long meaning Little Dragon. And many more :) Amazing show Oh, and Ruby and Yang are half sisters, that's why the music is the same :)

i would be THRILLED to see this reacted too i love this series so damn much. The music is 10/10 through every season, for any faults the show might have its consistently amazing. I love the obsession you had over the trains width like yea its...pretty chunky, but its a cargo train! i swear its logical! and yes the figth scenes are simple brilliant, the chreography is top tier, the weight and the movement is so flowy..that last kick to the sister in the Yellow trailer always makes me wince in a way few fights do. Also one thing you mentioned about the animation is 100% something i miss from the later seasons when the animation 'improves' and thats the stark, artsy feel to the colours being so harsh, the blood on Weiss's face for example stands out so brilliantly, as well as the red on her cloths, and i miss how...vibrant i guess the show felt in these early trailers/seasons.

He was an independent web animator before he joined Rooster Teeth; he had a single video called Haloid and a short (unfinished) series called Dead Fantasy if you want to see more of his style, but those are all in 480p since they were created before HD video got popular on the internet.

Love seeing that you're getting into RWBY a thing to remember is that the songs here are very important to the Lore of the characters. A lot of songs in RWBY are character songs and pertain to them. Everything is a gun inside the show, The trailers will also impact the show and actually have relevance inside the show.
