This is why I firmly believe that it should be totally acceptable even for people to just not label themselves at all and rather focus instead on simply just _being_ &/or being themselves regardless of what that does or does not entail. Labeling it should be optional, a choice[ or possibility] that is available for those who DO wish to utilize it and/or who do find it helpful or important, not mandatory and either forced-on or required-of everyone. took the words right out of my mouth. there are so many beautiful reasons, @Alayna Joy , to keep these videos up, both for yourself and for the community, and your fans of course but. bigger picture, you know?.. it's such a fantastic story of sexuality and the ~journey~ of identity and transformation, both sexuality-wise and not! i 100% agree with you keeping the videos up and if you ever decide to private any, maybe you could leave them just unlisted and have a spot for the links so that maybe they don't come right up on the search but people who know the videos are VALID can still watch them? although again, regardless of your sexuality now, those videos can still help so many bi kids and adults because they ARE honest, informative, representational, and again, valid in your story, so that's just my stance! if someone can't understand that you wouldn't have made an entire series on a sexuality you weren't totally sure of AT THE TIME, hence why you even told your coming out AGAIN story in such depth as it happened, then they don't know you or care enough to even try to respect you + a genuine, extremely open/public journey that you had enough heart in to keep the entirety of it available online. it spreads representation, awareness, breaks stigmas(!!)(for ppl who watch the content + don't make assumptions based on titles), and again, keeps an honest history of you for people who appreciate you, and for total strangers who just get to be made _aware_ of _representation_ of the maze that is identity. because so many people have such a similar journey to you... it shows they shouldn't have to be ashamed either.

I'm bi as well, and totally agree! It doesn't ultimately help us to deny that for some the label is a 'phase' and they eventually realize they're not bi. That's a very real and valid queer experience, and bisexuality is all about refusing simple binary, black-and-white understandings of human sexuality. Just like it's not only "either gay or straight," it's not only "either bisexuality is never a phase or it isn't real at all." Many things can be true at once, and it helps us to practice holding those truths together.

Hi! Sexuality isn't fluid for everyone. This statement is homophob. So please stop with your homophobia !
@anngan50453 жыл бұрын
The idea that "sexuality is fluid" has been coopted by 'conversion therapy' advocates in their propaganda, so it's really dangerous since when a gay person with internalized homophobia hears it they think that it means they can 'turn' straight or bi - and let's be honest, that's exactly what you guys seem to believe. Ironically, even the person who coined that term, psychologist Lisa Diamond, believes that sexual orientation is fixed, she defines "sexual fluidity" as something completely different.

For the record: I’m bisexual, and seeing your self-discovery process actually helped me figure out I was bi rather than gay. There might be some people who see your old videos and decide to let it reinforce their preconceived notions that bisexuality is a phase, but that doesn’t mean it’s your fault that they’re doing that. Frankly those people would have been biphobic no matter what. You can’t take responsibility for other people’s discriminatory attitudes just because you’re being real about your history. I think it’s totally up to you what you do with your old videos. Leave them up if it feels right, make them private if it makes you feel overexposed. This is about YOUR journey and comfort level.

more than anything else people can assume that "homosexuality is a choice" after all and that sexual orientation can be "changed", which is the mantra of any homophobe. I love your old content and it still serves me! My thought is, yeah, it might confuse other people who aren't themselves bi, but at this point, it feels like it's _for_ the people who _are_ bi. If people want to find an example of a narrative they're stuck on, they will, and I don't think taking your really awesome old content will stop that. But choosing to remove yourself as a personal target of it is absolutely your prerogative. Personally, being a bi person who consumed a ton of your content when you identified and when I was learning to embrace _why_ my queerness is _so_ important to my identity, your full journey is a blessing. It didn't end up as mirrored to mine as I thought, but along my way, you helped me feel valid. And that can still be true for bi folks, lesbians, and other people still figuring it out. I think it's important content, and that baby Alayna being on point, even if she's in denial herself and maybe a bit defensive about it, is brilliant. I understand where you are coming from in your worry about old content but I think that content is important we are part of the change that is happening the change that says you don't have to pick a label and stick to it but the labels for that time was accurate to how you felt and that is valid and doesn't change the meaning of the label for others just because you no longer feel that label works for you. I just hope you know we are all here with love and support always!

This reminds me of my journey with my sexuality. Before I realized I'm attracted to girls, I thought I was asexual. It made sense to me, it felt right at the time. I related to a lot of the content, comments and memes around asexuality. When i told my friends I had never thought of anyone sexually, I meant it. I realized I was not interested in seeing a guy naked, and that I was more confortable with fully clothed guys. But as I got more confortable with my queerness, I started to reflect on some memories and realize I have kind of felt sexual attraction to girls in the past. The funny thing is, since this discovery, I've become more aware of my feelings and more open to them, and that made me develop some (sexual) thoughts I didn't have before, which is crazy to me! Well, turns out I'm bisexual (emotionally attracted to every gender, but sexually attracted only to girls). That doens't mean everything I've thought and said before wasn't true, it just means I know more of myself now :) So don't be too hard on yourself, your journey is completely valid and you shouldn't be ashamed of it.

Sounds like you’re a biromantic lesbian, like me! :) I understand where you’re coming from completely. I identified as asexual for so long. people like us tend to develop extremely close friendships and find ourselves romantically attracted to folks of any gender. But when it comes to sex, I am only attracted to women.

I don’t bi it was a series where you pretended to be a lesbian in denial trying to find lesbians to interview. Great series btw

Maybe not the most important part of this video to highlight but I love your sweater, the color, the seize, just matches you. Love it.

As a queer Mexican American I feel like the video you should take down is the Mexico trip one. It was just kind of cringy/triggering to watch. Like the whole “I’m fluent in Spanish after one week” it’s just kind of triggering, because people always joked around with knowing how to speak Spanish. It almost trivializes the actual struggles of being a heritage speaker of an ethnic minority. That part was overall painful to watch

Without even watching the video yet KEEP THEM UP. Not only is it your story (totally borrowed that idea from top comment and im not sorry) But it helped me accept my bisexuality. Theres no doubt in any of our minds that you're a lesbian, but you still thought u were bi for awhile. And you know so much about bisexuality, and the stigmas around it, and the importance of recognizing bierasure. I don't care what you're sexuality is, you're still an *honorary* bicon for helping so many us. Much love!!! xoxo -also i really appreciate your honesty and willingness to accept input from ur subscribers. like who else on this app would do that?! ur one rad dudette

Just as you had once thought you were straight, and came out as bisexual, it's completely fine and should be normalized to view your discovery of sexuality as a process, not a direct definition. After all, sexuality is a spectrum and fluid! So Alayna, please leave your past videos public because they not only show who you are, but they also help other people like me to give courage to come out multiple times! 😇💞💞

There is nothing wrong with your content. Even I don't bi it, is a amazing segment, in the way of which it is very educational and informative for people, which can help others understand what it means to be and for some let them find a identity that matches them, like bisexuality did for you before you realised that you was gay. It could of lead them to paths they didn't know existed for them, letting them know there js a community out there, that understands and accepts them. You past shows yours story and so many people have connected to you through it, never be ashamed to show what you have overcome to be who you are today, cause many other can relate.

For people on the journey, seeing other journeys are important. Please don't private if you're comfortable enough. It's been helpful for me so far and probably others! ❤️

I think everyone is saying it but I agree. Your content shows an important part about figuring out your sexuality you won’t always be right and it’s okay to change your sexuality. I really needed to hear that when I was questioning.

Please don't private them! It's really good to be able to see your story and the story of someone figuring herself out rather than just knowing - not all of us "just know", it's so helpful to see the journey. Also I think there are a lot of things that are still valuable and relevant to others even if they're not relevant to you anymore.

You never were a hypocrite. You showed a great story of self development and honesty in accepting and revealing your journey over time. What else can be more a part of support of bisexual and queer comunity. You can change but your humanistic moral principles are the same. It's the most important thing to show everybody by keeping your old content in place. Thank you.

I think you should keep the content public. As someone who has questioned themselves and went from bi to gay, seeing others who have went through the same thing is comforting.

I love the hair and makeup evolution from more made up to more relaxed and natural! Makeup can be an integral part of some people’s self expression, but for me I love myself more when I accept my body in a neutral way and don’t change it.

hey alayna! i just wanted to say that your bisexuality content is extremely important and close to my heart. your videos back in the day helped me come out as bisexual and i still go back to them whenever i am experiencing internalized biphobia or feeling like an imposter. please keep your old content public cuz someone somewhere must need some comfort and validation, let it be them using the label as a stepping stone or coming out as bisexual. love you loads :)

Alayna, earlier this year a friend who identified as bisexual and was in a long term relationship with a man was questioning their sexuality. I directed them to your content and they really connected to it and ended up coming out as a lesbian. And then here we are this year, where I, a bisexual of seven years, have also come out as a lesbian! I just want you to know that seeing ourselves reflected in your journey has power

i found you back in my baby bi days, have always loved you & felt so validated by you even back then! when you came out as gay, i found myself ✨ very intrigued ✨ by the videos & watched them multiple times.... fast forward to this summer where i finally came out to myself as a lesbian. rewatching these videos again & everything you're saying can not hit home harder. you're putting language to it in a way that i haven't been able to yet, although by now i'm aware of the feelings. thank you for all that you do & i love this for us!!!

I enjoy your sharing your life and experience. Not gay, but the trials and tribulations of teen and early twenties are classic. What to be, who we are, how to communicate in relationships, all "growing up" is many difficult andconflicting. Thank you. You can laugh and share your experiences when it is so easy to internalize them.

I think your journey is important, it shows that not everyone wakes up and goes yep this is who I am. It takes some of us time. So identifying as a bisexual is apart of your journey, for others the journey is to bisexual, for you it wasn’t. And that’s ok.

Nope! I think it's not only a great way for other folks to see how identity can naturally change over time, but you have so many amazing videos for bi folks that are validating as heck even if you aren't bi.

In terms of the video about bisexuality not being a phase and also defending people that use it as a stepping stone; I think it is actually a helpful video to keep up. I was watching your content back when you ID’d as bi because I was coming to terms with my own bisexuality and I remember when you first came out as gay I actually felt hurt. (Obviously that was a me problem, and I have grown since then. Being hurt by someone else’s sexuality is weird place to be in) But I think it’s helpful to have these reminders that bisexuality being a stepping stone on someone’s journey is just as valid as it being the destination. As a bi woman I find I can get frustrated by bi erasure in circumstances where bi erasure isn’t actually happening and it’s important that I learn and grow too.

The content you made about bisexuality helped me and others discover their own sexualitys. You were acting authentically when you made it, and I feel like people respect that (or at least they should)

1. "Be Kind, Rewind" is totally a movie and like you I absolutely remember video stores and rewinding the tapes. 2. Please don't make your old bi content private! On some especially cringe-in-2021 videos you could give a little disclaimer, maybe linking to a current video explaining how bisexuality is real, just not the label that you currently identify with? I'm bi, and I found you when you still identified as bi, and I think you still have some of the best bi content on KZbin. I'd want someone like me to still be able to find your old content and know that they are valid and that they aren't alone. ❤️

Yes! I started getting into KZbin more than just random linked videos in 2017 and quickly narrowed down the list of bi/queer people I wanted to watch regularly who talked about it (say, instead of Shane for instance) to a small handful. That included/includes Alayna, Melanie, maybe Connor, the odd bit of Rose and Rosie, Fiona. Alayna's videos have been a really affirming, friendly, educational and entertaining part of the years since for me (I Don't Bi It is still about my most memorable YT series by any vlogger/creator here, even if occasionally hard watching/cringe-making).
@Delorkay3 жыл бұрын
I know this is pretty cringe but it's also absolutely hilarious, and your explanations never cease to bring me comfort. Your channel is honest about where you are and that's of a lot of comfort to us on the journey that its okay to be there. No matter the end destination.

You’re bisexuality content helped me figure out who I am and I have continued to utilize it as a resource to help educate people who wish to better understand me and people like me. I also feel like even though bisexuality wasn’t the answer, it did help you get there, which I think a lot of lesbians can identify with who have had, or are currently having, similar journeys.

if you really don't want to have that content out there, then you could unlist them and put them on a playlist? that way your fans can still watch them knowing the full story but strangers can't stumble across random videos and make quick judgments?
@lilyfry83093 жыл бұрын
It is 100% valid that you’re worried about these videos perpetuating the stigmas around bisexuality to biphobes!! But I think it is far more important to provide representation to people who did use bisexuality as a stepping stone and are now scared to come out as gay for the same reasons. This is coming from a bisexual who wants there to be room in the future for me to change my label as I discover new things about myself. Leave the bi content! Love you sm
