@@mariebourgot4949 Much more simply "It's Okay To Be Gay."
@Lisa_Flowers
@Lisa_Flowers 3 жыл бұрын
@@mariebourgot4949 It seems to be in a more tongue in cheek kind of way. I think queer people should be able to express their feelings about their orientation and identity however they want, even if that's playfully and even if that might be misinterpreted by homophobes already looking for reasons to delegitimize queerness. We're not responsible for 'being gay is a choice' rhetoric anyway, so I don't think our self-expression should be limited by it, and I think it's awesome to be able to reclaim it. The argument that being gay isn't a choice, while obviously true, can sometimes be based in framing queerness as undesirable and inherently bad instead of framing homophobia as the thing that's bad.It can limit queerness to victimization and even make it seem like we're being victimized by our own queerness or that it's something that we all want to run away from. So espousing the message that 'Being gay isn't a choice but even if it were, it would be a great one because queerness is great' is super positive and refreshing. It obviously has personal meaning for her because her wanting to be gay was a reflection of the fact that she actually was gay, but sometimes having something that says 'hey! You're allowed to be this way if that's a desire you have' is something people need to hear. And it's kind of a fuck you to the idea that everyone should want to be straight or that your only relationship to queerness is one where you are victimized by it or have no other choice. None of us want to be oppressed, but that doesn't mean we want to be straight. I realized I was gay because I wanted to be and having the permission to have that desire was a big deal for me!

I found it very healing to hear Ashley, who I perceive as this deacon of the lesbians-so self-assured, so unapologetic, so HERSELF as a long-out person-talk about her teen years of hoping she would some day like men. I've gone through a ~journey~ very similar to Alayna's, and am still trying to find my sea-legs, so to speak. It's really validating to hear that it isnt just "late bloomers" who grow up desperately wishing for het attraction and relationships up to the point of actually lying to ourselves. To know that this is a more common experience in the community makes me feel good... like I can still grow into the confidence that Ashley exudes in her identity and in general. That is something I deeply admire and strive for.

Hey Alayna! Long time viewer, first time commenter. Wanted to touch on the "lesbian bed death" question. My wife and I have been together for 21 years, and for us and some of our friends, both straight and gay, have gone through long periods of no sex. But seeing them together you can see how much their relationship transcended physical shows of love to a more cerebral one. Not to say sex isn't important, it is, even in long term relationships. There is the emotional depth of love as well. My wife and I are still physical, we do have make out sessions, but we can go long periods without sex and still feel that intense closeness. We have moved beyond the idea of, "well, if she ain't getting it at home, is she getting it somewhere else?" I guess what I am saying is this: sex should not be a definition of a strong relationship, in my opinion. All of that being said, sex is awesome!
@IceESole
@IceESole 2 жыл бұрын
I use to think that happened with "married straight couples" until I met a few lesbian couples. And either one of them would hit on me and then tell me her dead sex life...😬🧐.. I've never experienced lesbian death bed.. I've met a few lesbian couples who are in these relationships!

I notice bed death occurs when a couple is living like they're attached at the hip, never apart and becoming more and more the same energetically speaking. Electro-magnetic attraction starts to drop if they lose their differences. So my advice would be to read up on codependency and avoid it!! Keep your separate activities, separate friends, separate hobbies, separate interests - don't just do everything together or become mirrors of each other - and definitely don't meld into one person. Be able to bring to the table things to talk about that you experienced separately. Sleeping in your own separate bedrooms can also help keep the sexual charge alive, so if you must spend a lot of time together (if you're running a business together, for example, so you're together all day), that's another possibility for keeping your own unique energy your own (thus keeping the sexual charge alive). Keeping your energies different from each other's seems to be what keeps the attraction charge going. Otherwise the magnetic charge dies over time.

The tree kisses but me and my cousins have switched to a bro hug type thing. And my boyfriend wants to take me to spain. I relate to the idea of “tricking” one’s self into believing that you like guys. I had two crushes on guys when I was young and I had to like /work/ at it. I never had those feels again, even when I met guys that I wished I liked in that way. Specifically there’s one guy that I honestly think I could’ve fallen for if I wasn’t queer, but now I see that it takes like ‘work’ for me to be attracted to a man and even then it’s like next to impossible. I still haven’t had feelings for a guy since I was a kid. The words I use to identify my sexuality are much looser now because while I felt that having labels to help me navigate the landscape of what sexuality is and it’s different variations, I realize that I’m always going to be learning more about myself and it might just take a specific person to stir up feelings inside of me. Today I go by Queer, Gay, Lesbian, not straight mostly but maybe one day that’ll change. I see labels as a stepping stone to get to a place of understanding that other people like you exist in the world but once you’ve realized that you’re not straight and/or cis, then you can kind of shed or be more flexible with those labels. Like labels are there for /you/ to recognize who you are rather than for others to confine you into a box.

Also this was iconic! I feel like there were so many things you all discussed that just made sense! It was awesome and helped! Like Alayna how you couldn’t tell the difference between a strong platonic love and a romantic love I felt like you explained that well. And how I forget her name...... ☹️ she offered the suggestion on asking a girl out!!! Omg I’m like honestly saving this video and coming back to that. That was immaculate, iconic, and 10/10 will use! Thanks you two are the best!

LOL paused cause when she said if she’s looking at your mouth I was like oof I hate looking people in their eyes idk it freaks me out lmaooo and I feel like at least if I’m looking at their mouth it looks kinda like I’m looking at their face and maybe they can’t tell now I’m questioning my whole reality lmao but also I think my adhd sometimes makes it hard for me to hear idk how to explain it and sometimes just like subtitles idk I feel like I understand people more looking at their mouth
@alienorfrei6867
@alienorfrei6867 3 жыл бұрын
I was looking for other comments on that. I always look at people’s mouth because otherwise I get so lost with what they are saying (exactly like subtitles too XD ). Also d/Deaf and hard of hearing people would stare at people’s mouth to understand. Another trick I’ve heard to deal with not wanting to look at people in the eyes is looking at their nose, but somehow that makes me very uncomfortable too. Like, noses are weird. Plus they don’t move when you talk.

Question/advice needed: (and I hope nobody i knows sees this because kind of vulnerable). I was pretty sick as a teenager, and in a bad place mentally. I’m now almost 20 and gay. Because of not being well (as well as some heavy medication) I never wanted a relationship. Most things people have done by the time they’re 16 I haven’t done. The only kiss I’ve had was also non-consensual so that’s also not fun. Now I’m in a. Better place mentally and I want a relationship, I want to experience all these first times. But I’m so scared. Idk what anyone would answer to this but any advice would really be appreciated

There’s nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. As you explore these aspects of yourself, just remember that you don’t owe anyone your life story or an explanation. Also, go at your own pace. Don’t feel rushed because you’re not falling behind. It’s just a popular societal narrative that you do x at y stage. Your personal development is totally valid.

One thing to remember is that, first of all is not that weird, a lot more people than it seems have those experiences later in life, it's important to go at your own pace, there's nothing shameful about that. A good person for you won't shame you and will be happy to explore new experiences with you.
