Also, remember this fact. Elvis’s whole career lasted 23 years. Imagine what he could have accomplished if he had 40 or 50 years like MJ? Elvis changed culture, music and the world in 23 short years. Elvis was born in Tupelo Mississippi in 1935-1977. 🙏🏼

Some of those pictures were of Elvis and Jackie Wilson - a super talented artist from the late 50s and early 60s. They were really good friends and Elvis paid Jackie's medical bills near the end of his life.

Elvis's Mother was the reason for her to keep going; she is the one that kept Elvis grounded. Elvis Father was in jail for doctoring a check. They lost their home and lived with one relative or another.

Elvis's mother had Irish roots from my country Cork so I'm not surprised she brought him up to love everyone. In the 60's Ireland was a poor country we had been looted and pillaged by British for centuries and that was far from worst of what they did but I'm saying Ireland was so poor we had no immigration at all. It was a 3rd world country. Now it's richest in the world. My aunt went to New York in 1962 and met a lovely guy, he was black and she brought him home to Cork to met us all. Half of Cork came to meet him and shake his hand. We had only ever seen a black person on screen. (My dad was in Irish army for 23 years and he travelled the world as part of UN Peacekeeping duty. He was in the first battalion of Irish soldiers who went to Congo in 1961. He absolutely fell in love with Congo and it's people). Thankfully we have over a million immigrants now. 25% of our population are immigrants. My own grandchildren are Irish/Nigerian. I hope that my story wasn't too boring. Sorry If was.

Elvis was born January 8, 1935. He was one of twins, but his brother died at birth...they were so poor, his brother was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. Elvis was drafted into military service in 1958 at a height of his career, his mother died that same year, he was given "compassionate leave" and thankfully he got there in time to say his goodbyes., but ever really got over the loss. Yes, Whitney's Mum was in Elvis backing group, Cissy Houston & Dionne Warwick was her cousin. James Brown was a very close friend of Elvis, James was the first to arrive at Elvis's funeral and was the last to go, he spent hours after the funeral by Elvis's coffin, crying, heartbroken until Security had to ask him to go. He was loved by the Black Artists of the time, he made them "Legit" and opened many doors for them. He also was good friends with Martin Luther King, in fact, he had memorized the "I had a Dream" speech. He was devasted that year (1968) when two of his friends were gunned down, MLK and Bobby Kennedy, both huge Civil Activists, that is why he defied the Colonel and sang "If I could Dream" at the close of the "68 Comeback TV special. It is told he came off stage and broke down in the dressing room. Elvis was one of the greatest Humanitarians to grace the stage. Although he didn't like being called "The King", being deeply religious, he would say there is only one "King" and he is in heaven. He will live forever in our hearts. 💕BTW... Elvis didn't do "recreational drugs" as we know them. Like Michael Jackson, he only took Doctor prescribed drugs, and like MJ, they killed him.. There was an investigation following his death, same as MJ, and they found out how he had been over prescribed by his doctor... and like MJ nothing really happened to the Dr. Elvis was only 41 when he passed. He will always be missed. He often wondered if he would be forgotten when he died, but we will never forget him. ❤

Elvis' cook Mary, who you see at the beginning of this video told a story one time. Elvis was in the hospital and on a strick diet. Elvis called Mary and asked her to make some hot dogs and sneak them in. Mary wrapped them up in clothes and brought them to Elvis in the hospital. He opened them up and as Mary said " he went to working on those hotdogs. Elvis said " we can get by em can't we Mary?. We sure can Mary replied". Elvis affectionately called Mary (May Wee)

True about his parents. Some misformed folks out there assume (or summarize) Elvis himself growing up around black folks made him more integrative minded than his parents. But that's just bad history. Common sense would dictate that since Elvis was so close to his parents he obviously would be influenced by their own lack of prejudice. You made a good, solid observation for being knew to your Elvis history journey. Non-white folks from Tupelo, Mississippi (where Elvis was a child) like John Cooke, Sam Bell, Janice Davis Scales, and others have verified "the Presleys his father, mother & Elvis ALL were different that most whites. Different in a good way". And the woman at beginning of this video talking abt the peanut butter sandwich, Mary Jenkins, also told story about Vernon (Elvis' father) helping her out when Caucasian folks running the local bank were giving Mary a hard time, so Vernon called the bank, paid off Mary's debts for her. And then he told the bank management they (the Presleys) would no longer be doing business with the bank, and take their business elsewhere. It meant a lot to Mary of course, and it tells us a lot about his father. Enjoyed your reaction. Edit - also very great point about the James Brown film (and Chad Boswick... I'm still sad about his tragic loss. RIP) But yes I've said the same thing about the James Brown film. I guess there's only so much they can put into a film but sure would have been awesome to maybe have at least a one or two minute segment showing JB & EP (2 huge icons of their era) sitting together jamming on the piano. If only.... )

Elvis’s mom died in 1958 while he was in the service, she passed at 46. Elvis was never the same. He lived for his mother, Gladys. The Presley’s die young, Elvis died at 42, his only child died at 54. The Presley curse continues unfortunately. His only grandson (Lisa’s son) took his own life at 27. He looked just like Elvis.

Elvis being raised in the Mississippi Delta made him who he was, and you're correct - in that it speaks greatly of his parents - that Elvis had love for everyone. Musically, in that area, Elvis was inspired by black blues, white country, black gospel and white gospel, and they all came together beautifully when coming out of his mouth. When racially, Elvis' best friend as a child was a black gentleman by the name of Sam Bell. So the gang of kids Elvis ran around with during the summers, and after school, were all black. His interaction with other white children, largely being limited to when he had to attend a different school due to segregation, and then when he came to Memphis, from Tupelo, as a teenager. But Elvis and Sam had a wonderful time growing up, as Sam tells it, as Sam's grandfather who raised him, also had a small farm with various fruit and vegetables they would eat, etc. Elvis' father also built Sam and Elvis a treehouse and they also had their own swimming hole and would sometimes try to ride the horses or tip over the occasional sleeping cow over at Sam's place. While they also enjoyed riding bikes, shooting BB guns and sleepovers at each other's house. Often, for lunch, Elvis' mom would make them sandwiches, too, and Sam laughs when he says how she made the best Kool Aid in the world. lol Elvis, too, whenever entering into the homes of other black friends around his home would always be tinkering on a piano or guitar if one were in that particular house, too. Sam also says, and w/o being arrogant, that Elvis would always talk about going other places and being bigger, so Sam is an absolute treasure trove of not only Elvis stories, but also race relations at that time. As I'm about 100% that Sam had said, he really had never experienced outright racism until going to Chicago. Although, he and Elvis did see things like separate seating for blacks and whites at the movie theater. However, they'd go in and then when up top, Elvis would climb over a wooden partition to the black section to sit with Sam or vice versa. So, Sam's yard backed up to Elvis', and then approximately a mile south behind Sam's yard was Shakerag; a somewhat thriving, but small black community. Sam saying that Elvis went there more often than himself because they had a lot of musicians sitting out on the porch playing guitars and singing and they took a liking to Elvis due to his intense interest. It is said that Elvis also met Muddy Waters when there. Thus, Elvis' life, and the stories associated with it (and there are so many) are so cool. When ultimately, to me, it's pretty clear Elvis had one of the most diverse voices in music history. But, and far, far more important than that, is that he represented L-O-V-E. God bless, my friend!!! ~ Christopher Tyler

If you havent seen it already watch Elvis a generous heart and one called 200 cadillacs. Trust me its worth watching because you've just seen a tiny bit of who Elvis really was. He Gave away so much to so many and did it because it made him happy to be able to do things to help others . Plus he didnt do it for publicity . Mostly he tried to give people gifts without anyone seeing it. He really was an amazing person.

If you haven’t already, search KZbin for “If I Can Dream” by Elvis. He has this song written for him to perform in his Christmas TV show in 1968. It was his tribute to MLK who was killed that year. Elvis was a great admirer of King. In your search, find a video where he is dressed all in white. Listen to the lyrics for his message.

It's true about his connection with black people. As a child he and his mother had to move into a boarding house renting a single bedroom when his dad was sent to prison for 8 months. Their only income was money his mother made ironing clothes for people in the community and that boarding house was all they could afford. His best friend was a black kid named Sam Bell, Sam's mother saw how destitute he and his mother was so Sam's mother would let Elvis eat dinner with the family every evening . Sam said Elvis was the only white person allowed in their house. Sam's father liked Elvis. He always spoke to Sam's parents with respect, using yes sir and no mam etc. White kids normally would be condensing to black people but Elvis never was. Elvis would have went hungry without the Bell family. I think that's where his comfort with black people was forged and probably when he first heard black music southern gospel rythem and blues as a young person. He was introduced to it in a positive light not having a racist white person influence him. He had no concept of a racial difference in music. To be honest I heard the songs by him also sung by black artists never knowing he was crossing over music genres. It was just good songs to me. It wasnt until my teenage years that I noticed cultural differences in music. It was odd to me learning that most kids my age wouldnt listen to music out of the genre their parents listened to. Most kids listened to the same genre their parents did, only more current. It limited their knowledge and ability to to listen to music out of comfort zone

I am an Elvis fan and been watching your Elvis journey for awhile. Today you have convinced me to Sub. May I suggest that maybe if you can start from the begining, then drafted to Army, watch his interviews, his musics from 50, 60 and then 70 and then his movies. By doing that you are following his story. Good luck.👍😁👋

Ali and Elvis were great friends and my two heroes growing up, honestly. While Elvis presented Ali with a $10,000 robe prior to his victory against Joe Bugner, I believe. To show what good friends they were, too - and it's well documented so you can find it - they were both being playful in Elvis' suite with Ali assuming a boxing stance and Elvis a karate stance. And Elvis actually leg swept Ali to the floor, reached out his hand, and they both laughed and laughed about it. Ali was also gracious enough to have Elvis to his Pennsylvania training camp, so Elvis would be able to get some rest out of site and also away from pretty much everyone. As although I think a lot of the guys around Elvis really loved him, they were also a financial drain and there was always conflict, drama and petty jealousies Elvis hated when giving a house or Mercedes or Harley, etc., to one guy instead of another. Even though, no doubt, he took care of basically everyone who ever came into his life circle.

Unfortunately she does seem to be? I think Elvis began to get involved with drugs towards the end of his life...He suffered from deep depression after his split from his wife and sort of losing his little daughter, which seemed to be really devastated. He was still a huge star and like many other stars still wanted to have people enjoy their shows etc. Like a few other MEGA Stars who just probably hurt inside but tried to continue to make fans happy and more than we can sometimes see.

Dolly Parton wrote "I'll Always Love You," which may be Whitney Houston's biggest hit ever. While the back story to that is she had first taken it to Elvis as she had very much wanted him to record it. When he did not, she cried and cried. And this gets into how pissed off Elvis would be about the songs he was getting (&w/his manager Tom Parker), which he often thought were of poor quality when he got his demos to select from. I'm also not a defender of Colonel Parker, either - and actually think he was awful for Elvis, overall - and a con man. But the reason why Elvis sometimes had difficulty getting great material, especially later on in the 70's, was b/c Parker would often insist that songwriters give up 50% of their publishing rights if they wanted Elvis to record their song. This being something that Elvis was not always aware of, but when he did find that out - such as with 'In the Ghetto', he got very upset and argued with the Colonel until he got his way. as he wasn't interested in the extra money. Same, too, as with 'Suspicious Minds.' While I don't even know for sure if Elvis even knew about Dolly Parton bringing the song to him, as closely insulated as he was. I could attack Parker on this, too, but it can also be seen as a smart business move, in one way, & it also did actually help some songwriters come to fame. It was just totally counter to the artistic side of what Elvis wanted, though. However, as Elvis has more charted hits on Billboard, overall I believe, one can see why a songwriter might make the deal. And, if they gave up half of the publishing, they would still have their song sung by the one of only a few individuals who could ensure it was a hit, at least of some note, and put them more on the map. So, for instance, Eddie Rabbit, who later became quite famous as a country/pop singer for "I love a rainy night', was helped in his journey to stardom by having Elvis record his song 'Kentucky Rain', which I'm rather sure was definitely a Top 10. Therefore, the question becomes, would the song have done as well if Rabbit song it on his own? Most likely not, but one never knows.

My haircut that I’ve had the most is an undercut with clean shaving with long hair on top because of my Native background and I’ve used black hair products because that’s what worked best with my mixed background, if I don’t use products my hair is like a long hair Afro

He didn't really have a drug problem in the way we associate that today like cocaine or LSD. But more like prescription drugs. Yes, Elvis was NOT prejudiced in any form, Muhammad Ali was very good friends with Elvis.

@@imnotyourfriendbuddy1883 just ludes? (We ate a ton of them in the day) No PCP? LSD? Acid that turns music into moving color? Blotter, microdot, window pane? Cannabinol-T? Barbs? What good barbs are around? (The weed is DEFINITELY better these days, but it's not really a drug either.) Hell, if I can get the same sort of things today that we had back then, I'd abandon my ten minutes a day on social media! A trip is a whole lot more interesting! Laundry with the Moody Blues and a solid trip is sorely missed lol.

@@deannacrownover3 Everything but the Quaaludes is still available. You're also right about barbs, benzos are more popular now for both medical and recreational uses. All one has to do is ask a white guy with dreadlocks to find good psychedelics, lol. When it comes to Lucy microdots and geltabs arent the favored medium anymore, liquid is. of course there is weak acid out there but that was also true back then. Also DMT is everywhere if you know where to look. Some jurisdictions in the usa have essentially legalized psychedelics, Washington DC has online delivery services for example. Probably less PCP and more ketamine on the market these days but im not sure i never was interested in dissociatives. MDMA is also everywhere but ive always felt that stuff is idiot's acid There are Labs all over the world slightly altering chemicals so they are not technically illegal because the chemical never existed and the DEA has to play catch up with scheduling which is a losing battle for them. the questionably legal drug market is vast and includes all manner of drugs. I never indulged in those drugs because your generation never guinea pigged them for us but a lot of other people use them.
