This isn't the "darker side" of hip hop. This is the funny side! You might need to actually know some of his story to see the funny side of it though. There are a lot of "trigger words" but that's intentional to exaggerate the hyperbole. Those words are there just to trigger people and really aren't important for the context. And he did have A LOT heavier beefs than Carey and Moby.

Correction: he didnt have 'beef' with mariah or moby, those were collateral damage in the wake of his hip hop movement. He's had beef with real lyricists and industry heads, lost brothers to the game. You said it yourself youre not a hip hop head, so we cant blame you for assuming this.

He definitely had beef with moby and mariah lmfao

@@kollincarpenter4909it’s different, he’d attack absolutely ANYBODY and with them it was more funny that he had beef with them, it wasn’t serious beef like it was with other real street rappers like Ja Rule

If you want to hear more sinister and shocking lyrics from Eminem, it will most likely be something like "Stay wide awake" or "My darling". Also B.I.G and Eminem have a song called "Dead wrong", the lyricism is also pretty shocking, if that is the goal.

I always took this, and most of the things Em says is that he is going to "lyrically kill you" with his super power. With this being the intro to album, it's the set up for what is to come. Hope you two are well... I just wanted to put my 2 cents into this conversation. To me, Eminem's music, like this one, is a lot like Alice Cooper, or Slayer, or any musicians who use harsh, violent, or hurtful lyrics, aren't exactly saying what they're saying... That sounds silly, but my point is that a metal band may say 'I love to kill', but I don't ACTUALLY think they want to kill anyone. Those lyrics are trying to get a mood or for the shock of it. Like I mentioned Alice Cooper, he has a song called, "I Love The Dead", but like T mentioned, Alice Cooper is a character. His concerts are like a Broadway play, with fake blood, and his head gets cut off on stage! Now, 'Alice Cooper' is NOT is real name, it's a character. Now, Tasha, if you can understand that (nearly) EVERYTHING you'll hear in music is made to feel a certain, well, a feeling. So, the lyrics will go with the feeling of the music, a sad song will usually have sad lyrics. A aggressive metal song, will give you a different feeling, making you aggressive, or for you to feel or think of an aggressive thing that you went through. There are musicians that DO but lyrics that are 'attacking' another musician, but 99% of that is fake to get more hype, which = $$. I'm sure there are some crazy people out there that really believe in the crazy devil stuff, but most bands are just creating art, the way they like to create. I'm not even sure if anything I typed here made any sense, hell, I have no idea if you're gonna see this at all! I just wanted to put my twist into this conversation. I just hope I was able to pass some of my wisdom into the world. If so, it'll be the first time... Btw... 'Alice Cooper' Was born as 'Vincent Damon Furnier.' I'm not sure why he changed his name. His real name is bad ass for a rocker! Haha. Ok, I'll shut my phone down now. It's time to play some video games... 🤘🤪 Later, Tasha & T, catch y'all on the flip side...

I love this song but I can understand where Tasha is coming from. On Eminem’s new album “The Death of Slim Shady” he does a song “Save Me” with Jelly Roll. It’s about what would have happened IF he had died from his overdose in 2007 or 2008. Thankfully he got clean and is now at I think 16 years sober.

I think it’s important to be able to distinguish when a rapper is being real on a song as opposed to playing a character, like an actor portraying a role. While Em occasional will remind you in a song that he’s not serious (half the sh*t I say I just make it up to make you mad . . .), I don’t feel rappers should have to tell you. B.I.G. spitting a crime tale (N’s Bleed) has a very different feel than Juicy. It’s also important to remember that not everything hip hop is super hard core. Going back to The Fat Boys, KRS-One, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, Queen Latifah, to Devin the Dude Lupe Fiasco, Joyner Lucas and more that are thought provoking and/or humorous, there is and always has been a wide variety of sounds and subject matter under the Hip Hop umbrella. Even Eminem has a very “real” side to his music from very early on (Rock Bottom and The Way I Am) to songs (Temporary and Somebody Save Me) on his latest album.

hiphop is kinda like comedyu in a way. the artists push the envelope and social norms of what is and isnt okay. some lyrics are more shocking than others, but in general yes hiphop is a graphic and often vulgar genre, but that's why its so loved. Because the uncensored art is so raw and authentic

What you don’t know about this song is he made it as a way to push back against them music industry. They told him he would never sell Musick if he said what he was actually thinking so he pushed this into it so he would show them. I can do whatever I want. It’s free speech. Now his mother was actually horrible to him. She even sold him as a child once. But he’s just trying to say the most outrageous stuff to make people skirmish and make their jaw drop. So this was just one of his songs against the establishment.
